I am having trouble with my chartsjs labels.
my graph generates fine, I am trying to set the chart so that the data labels are for the text part of the data and not the numbers part. my code shows the data labels as 4, 6 and 2 where as i need them to show the text: me, you and them.
<script>
var ctx = document.getElementById('myChart4').getContext('2d');
var myChart4 = new Chart(ctx, {
plugins: [ChartDataLabels],
type: 'doughnut',
data: {
labels: ['me','you','them'
],
datasets: [{
label: false,
data: [4,6,2
],
}]
},
options: {
responsive: false,
plugins: {
datalabels: {
color: 'black',
anchor: 'end',
align: 'end',
offset: 15
},
legend: {
display: false
},
title: {
display: true,
text:'Reason'
}
},
responsive: false,
onClick: (evt, activeEls) => {
show();
},
}
});
You can use the formatter function for this:
Chart.register(ChartDataLabels)
const options = {
type: 'bar',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
backgroundColor: 'orange'
}]
},
options: {
plugins: {
datalabels: {
color: 'black',
anchor: 'end',
align: 'end',
offset: 15,
formatter: (val, ctx) => (ctx.chart.data.labels[ctx.dataIndex])
},
}
}
}
const ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.6.0/chart.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/chartjs-plugin-datalabels/2.0.0/chartjs-plugin-datalabels.js"></script>
</body>

I have this chart, starting at 0 and I want the Y axis to begin at 20. It surprises me how there is nothing related to this in the official ChartJS docs. Is this possible in any way?
I have tried several ways to do it, eg. with ticks or min value and so on but nothing worked.
The application is written in Nuxt3 and the ChartJS library used is vue-chart-3.
const options = computed(() => ({
responsive: true,
plugins: {
legend: {
display: false,
},
title: {
display: false,
}
},
scales: {
x: {
stacked: true,
},
y: {
stacked: true,
}
}
}));
const chartData = computed(() => ({
labels: ['Provider'],
datasets: [
{
data: [selectedDataset.value?.score.uncustomized],
backgroundColor: ['#00b7c4'],
},
{
data: [selectedDataset.value?.score.difference],
backgroundColor: ['#204992'],
},
],
}));
const { barChartProps, barChartRef } = useBarChart({
chartData,
options,
});
Any help would be appreciated.
If you want the axis to start at a given number you need to use the min property:
const options = {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
borderColor: 'pink'
},
{
label: '# of Points',
data: [7, 11, 5, 8, 3, 7],
borderColor: 'orange'
}
]
},
options: {
scales: {
y: {
min: 6
}
}
}
}
const ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.7.1/chart.js"></script>
</body>
I have chartjs v2.9.3 in my Django app and it works great. Now I need to add a box to one of my charts using chartjs-plugin-annotation, and I've followed all the steps, but I can't get it to work.
I've used chartjs-plugin-annotation v0.5.7 which is for v2.9.3. I get no errors in the console log.
First, scripts with chart.js and plugins:
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chart.js#2.9.3/dist/Chart.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chartjs-plugin-datalabels#0.7.0"></script>
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chartjs-plugin-annotation#0.5.7/chartjs-plugin-annotation.min.js"></script>
My code for chart (chart works, I just can't get box to appear):
<canvas id="myChart" height="250"></canvas>
<script>
function setChart12(){
$('#myChart').remove();
$('#container_glavni').append('<canvas id="myChart" height="200"></canvas>');
var ctx = document.getElementById('myChart').getContext('2d');
var myChart = new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'bar',
data: {
labels: date,
datasets: [{
label: 'Number of reports',
data: data_nc
}, {
type: 'line',
label: 'Median',
data: [50],
fill: false,
borderColor: 'rgb(54, 162, 235)',
}],
},
options: {
layout: {
padding: {
top: 30
}
},
responsive: true,
legend: {
display: false
},
plugins: {
datalabels: {
anchor: 'end',
align: 'end',
offset: 5,
},
autocolors: false,
annotation: {
annotations: {
box1: {
type: 'box',
xMin: 0,
xMax: 1,
yMin: 0,
yMax: 30,
backgroundColor: 'rgba(255, 99, 132, 0.25)'}
}
}
},
scales: {
yAxes: [{
ticks: {
beginAtZero: true
}
}]
}
}
});}
</script>
I've tried:
Different values for min and max
Different colors
Different code formating
This is because you putted the options in the place where they belong in V1 of the annotation plugin and the syntax too. For V0.5.7 the annotation options have to be placed in the root of the options and also all the annotations are an array instead of seperate objects:
var options = {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
borderWidth: 1
},
{
label: '# of Points',
data: [7, 11, 5, 8, 3, 7],
borderWidth: 1
}
]
},
options: {
annotation: {
annotations: [{
id: "hline",
type: "line",
mode: "horizontal",
scaleID: "y-axis-0",
value: 10,
borderColor: "red",
}]
},
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/2.9.4/Chart.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chartjs-plugin-annotation#0.5.7/chartjs-plugin-annotation.min.js"></script>
</body>
Hello i am rendering these charts using chart js but i am unable to align these charts in the same order my config file and options file is given below
can anyone please help me with this. i tried with below options and data
const options = {
indexAxis: "y",
maintainAspectRatio: false,
aspectRatio: 0.8,
barThickness: 20,
responsive: true,
layout: {
padding: {
left: 1
}
},
plugins: {
legend: {
display: false
}
},
scales: {
x: {
ticks: {
color: "#495057"
},
grid: {
color: "#ebedef"
}
},
y: {
ticks: {
color: "#495057",
crossAlign: "near"
},
grid: {
color: "#ebedef"
},
gridLines: {
offsetGridLines: true,
display: true
}
}
}
};
const data = {
labels: ["red"],
datasets: [{
backgroundColor: "#42A5F5",
data: [65],
borderWidth: 2,
borderRadius: 75,
borderSkipped: false
},
{
backgroundColor: "#FFA726",
data: [28],
borderWidth: 2,
borderRadius: 50,
borderSkipped: false
}
]
};
how to align one below the other labels
As far as I know chart.js does not provide an option to set a minimum distance for the labels, a workaround to achieve this is to add spaces the the labels of the charts where the labels are shorter as the longest one so you will get something like this:
var options = {
type: 'bar',
data: {
labels: [" Red"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12],
backgroundColor: 'pink'
}]
},
options: {
indexAxis: 'y'
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.5.0/chart.js"></script>
</body>
var options = {
type: 'bar',
data: {
labels: [" Red"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12],
backgroundColor: 'pink'
}]
},
options: {
indexAxis: 'y'
}
}
var options2 = {
type: 'bar',
data: {
labels: [" Yellowwwww"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12],
backgroundColor: 'pink'
}]
},
options: {
indexAxis: 'y'
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
var ctx2 = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer2').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx2, options2);
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer2" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.5.0/chart.js"></script>
</body>
I am trying to display the total amount at the top of my chart.js; I'm trying to use the datalabel plugin but I'm not sure why it is not showing the labels, I don't get any errors, here's my code:
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chart.js#3.0.0/dist/chart.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chartjs-plugin-datalabels#2.0.0-rc"></script>
<canvas id="myChart" width="850" height="520"></canvas>
<script>
var ctx = document.getElementById('myChart');
Chart.register(ChartDataLabels);
Chart.defaults.set('plugins.datalabels', {
color: '#FE777B'
});
var myChart = new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'bar',
plugins: [ChartDataLabels],
data: {
datasets: [{
data: <?php print_r($barData); ?>,
label: 'Advisor Closed MTD',
backgroundColor: 'rgb(192,111,94)',
barThickness: 25,
datalabels: {
color: '#FFCE56'
}
}],
},
options: {
responsive: false,
plugins: {
datalabels: {
color: 'blue'
}
}
}
});
</script>
The chart shows the right information but the labels are not showing at all.
The labels are showing, they are in the bars itself, to show them on top of the bars you will need to configure it like so:
options: {
responsive: false,
plugins: {
datalabels: {
anchor: 'end',
align: 'end',
labels: {
value: {
color: 'blue'
}
}
}
}
}
Example:
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chart.js#3.0.0/dist/chart.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/chartjs-plugin-datalabels#2.0.0-rc"></script>
<canvas id="myChart" width="850" height="520"></canvas>
<script>
var ctx = document.getElementById('myChart');
Chart.register(ChartDataLabels);
Chart.defaults.set('plugins.datalabels', {
color: '#FE777B'
});
var myChart = new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'bar',
plugins: [ChartDataLabels],
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
label: 'Advisor Closed MTD',
backgroundColor: 'rgb(192,111,94)',
barThickness: 25,
datalabels: {
color: '#FFCE56'
}
}],
},
options: {
responsive: false,
plugins: {
datalabels: {
anchor: 'end',
align: 'end',
labels: {
value: {
color: 'blue'
}
}
}
}
}
});
</script>
I want to remove labels from the top of pie chart. but not from mouse hover. if I comment on the labels options it shows undefined when I hover on the chart, how can I achieve that
var ctx = $("#doughnutChart").get(0).getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'pie',
data: { // I want to hide this labels.
labels: ['Jan', 'Feb', 'Mar', 'Apr', 'May', 'Jun', 'Jul', 'Aug', 'Sep', 'Oct', 'Nov', 'Dec'],
datasets: [{
label: 'User',
backgroundColor: colors,
data: usersData
}]
},
options: {
responsive: true,
}
});
You can set the legend to display: false in the options like so:
V2:
options: {
legend: {
display: false
}
}
V3:
options: {
plugins: {
legend: {
display: false
}
}
}
V2 example:
var options = {
type: 'pie',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
borderWidth: 1
}]
},
options: {
legend: {
display: false
}
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/2.9.4/Chart.js"></script>
</body>
V3 example:
var options = {
type: 'pie',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
borderWidth: 1
}]
},
options: {
plugins: {
legend: {
display: false
}
}
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.2.0/chart.js"></script>
</body>
