vscode - ofstream not creating a new file, .exe works normally - c++

I cannot create or read files using vscode with fstream. Program run from .exe works normally (creates a file empty.txt).
main.cpp:
#include <fstream>
int main()
{
std::ofstream file("empty.txt");
}
The above program does not create a file when run with vscode.

While compiling a cpp file on a remote ssh session on VSCode using g++, I get the following error
As can be seen here, the asterisk isn't recognized for some reason, and the terminal tries to find a file literally named *.cpp.

When i try to run my .cpp program in bash terminal in vscode, I receive this response(when I fisrstly compile --> then run from terminal, it runs without issues):
junte#anton MINGW64 /c/cpp_code

"Run without debugging" or Ctrl+F5 always starts the debugger in VS Code

The problem is in the title. There is no difference between pressing F5 and Ctrl+F5 or the equivalent navigation bar buttons. GDB debugger always starts and VS Code enters the debug view. I've looked around for solutions, but haven't been able to find anything. I'm using the default C/C++ extension.

The problem only happens in C/C++. Python works fine. I am using Ubuntu 20.04. If anyone knows how to fix this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Issues in Debugging C++ programns on VS Code

The debugger seems to run properly but apparently it is not stopping at any breakpoints. I have tried reinstalling both VS Code and the MinGW Complier but nothing seems to be work. I have included the 'launch.json' and the 'tasks.json' file for reference.
launch.json
{
// Use IntelliSense to learn about possible attributes.
// Hover to view descriptions of existing attributes.
// For more information, visit: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=830387
"version": "0.2.0",
"configurations": [
{

"type": "cppdbg",
"request": "launch",
"program": "${fileDirname}\\${fileBasenameNoExtension}.exe",
"args": [],
"stopAtEntry": true,
"cwd": "C:\\MinGW\\bin",
"environment": [],
"externalConsole": false,
"MIMode": "gdb",
"miDebuggerPath": "C:\\MinGW\\bin\\gdb.exe",
"setupCommands": [
{
"description": "Enable pretty-printing for gdb",
"text": "-enable-pretty-printing",
"ignoreFailures": true
}
],
"preLaunchTask": "C/C++: g++.exe build active file"
}
]
}
Tasks.json
{
"tasks": [
{
"type": "cppbuild",
"label": "C/C++: g++.exe build active file",
"command": "C:\\MinGW\\bin\\g++.exe",
"args": [
"-g",
"${file}",
"-o",
"${fileDirname}\\${fileBasenameNoExtension}.exe"
],
"options": {
"cwd": "C:\\MinGW\\bin"
},
"problemMatcher": [
"$gcc"
],
"group": {
"kind": "build",
"isDefault": true
},
"detail": "Task generated by Debugger."
}
],
"version": "2.0.0"
}
Issue resolved. I referred to a lot of other answers but couldn't find anything that worked for me.
However after updating the C++ extension the debugger was working normally.
