I have an issue with Chartjs bar chart. It doesn't display numeric values on both axis.
I hope you can give an advice how to resolve the issue.
I have the following data structures when both scaled are numeric:
{"x": 86, "y": 20},
{"x": 255, "y": 21},
{"x": 207, "y": 34},
The y axis is not a category but a number.
Here's how my chart looks like:
As you can see, there are no values on y axis. Y axis is not even show and the chart looks more like a stacked chart.
Here's how configuration looks like:
config: {
type: "bar",
data: {
datasets: [],
},
plugins: [],
options: {
responsive: true,
indexAxis: "y",
elements: {
bar: {
borderWidth: 2,
},
},
},
scales: {
y: {
position: "left",
ticks: {
color: "blue",
font: 24,
},
},
},
},
This is because chart.js still thinks it needs to be a category scale so you will need to override that. If you do that it shows up fine.
A second thing, to make the ticks bigger you need to specify the size in the font object, the font does not accept a number. For all font properties you can specify there you can read the docs here
var options = {
type: 'bar',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [{
"x": 86,
"y": 20
},
{
"x": 255,
"y": 21
},
{
"x": 207,
"y": 34
}
],
backgroundColor: 'pink'
}]
},
options: {
indexAxis: "y",
scales: {
y: {
type: 'linear',
ticks: {
color: "blue",
font: {
size: 24
},
},
}
}
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);

I am setting the startAngle on my polar chart so the first category starts on the -180 degrees.
But I can't figure out why the data point labels don't correspondingly adjust and rotate. As a result, they show up incorrectly against the wrong data. As you can see in the image, Question 6 still appears where Question 1 should be. The tooltips on each section do appear correctly.
Note: When I use the datalabels plugin, it does show the label correctly. But I am not using it because it does not wrap the labels and also it cuts off the labels if they become too big. In addition I had responsiveness problems with it.
So please suggest a solution without that plugin if possible.
Thank you very much for helping me out.

Update to V3, there they do turn with the chart if you adjust the startAngle
var options = {
type: 'polarArea',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [2, 9, 3, 5, 2, 3],
borderWidth: 1
}]
},
options: {
scales: {
r: {
startAngle: 180,
ticks: {
display: false
},
pointLabels: {
display: true
}
}
}
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>

V3 has some breaking changes over V2, for all of them you can read the migration guide
I am trying to create a stacked horizontal bar chart with an average line on each bar using the ChartJS library. I tried several times and searched on the Internet but I did not find out any satisfying answers. I appreciate your helping. Thanks.
Example:
.
In this example, the red line on each bar implies the average value of its group.
To create the stacked horizontal bar chart, please see
https://jsfiddle.net/lamtn862004/9wm1krqf/10/.
var data = {
labels: ["January", "February", "March"],
datasets: [
{
label: "Dogs",
backgroundColor: "rgba(237, 192, 169)",
data: [20, 10, 25],
stack: 1,
xAxisID: 'x-axis-0',
yAxisID: 'y-axis-0'
},
{
label: "Cats",
backgroundColor: "rgba(253, 234, 175)",
data: [70, 85, 65],
stack: 1,
xAxisID: 'x-axis-0',
yAxisID: 'y-axis-0'
},
{
label: "Birds",
backgroundColor: "rgba(179, 211, 200)",
data: [10, 5, 10],
stack: 1,
xAxisID: 'x-axis-0',
yAxisID: 'y-axis-0'
},
]
};
var ctx = document.getElementById("myChart").getContext("2d");
new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'groupableHBar',
data: data,
options: {
scales: {
yAxes: [{
stacked: true,
type: 'category',
id: 'y-axis-0'
}],
xAxes: [{
stacked: true,
type: 'linear',
ticks: {
beginAtZero:true
},
gridLines: {
display: false,
drawTicks: true,
},
id: 'x-axis-0'
},
{
stacked: true,
position: 'top',
type: 'linear',
ticks: {
beginAtZero:true
},
id: 'x-axis-1',
gridLines: {
display: true,
drawTicks: true,
},
display: false
}]
}
}
});
Now, I want to add the average line to each bar (as shown in the image).
Also, do you know the other solutions with open-source libraries for doing this?
The lines can be drawn using floating bars tied to the separate axis y2. To do so, you need to add another dataset as follows (I don't exactly understand what values you want to display, hence I randomly chose 40, 65 and 55):
{
label: "Lines",
backgroundColor: "rgb(255, 0, 0)",
data: [40, 65, 55].map(v => [v - 0.3, v + 0.3]),
yAxisID: 'y2',
order: -1
}
Further you must define a new scales option as shown below:
y2: {
display: false
}
Please take a look at your amended runnable code and see how it works.
var data = {
labels: ["January", "February", "March"],
datasets: [{
label: "Dogs",
backgroundColor: "rgba(237, 192, 169)",
data: [20, 10, 25]
},
{
label: "Cats",
backgroundColor: "rgba(253, 234, 175)",
data: [70, 85, 65]
},
{
label: "Birds",
backgroundColor: "rgba(179, 211, 200)",
data: [10, 5, 10]
},
{
label: "Lines",
backgroundColor: "rgb(255, 0, 0)",
data: [40, 65, 55].map(v => [v - 0.3, v + 0.3]),
yAxisID: 'y2',
order: -1
}
]
};
new Chart('myChart', {
type: 'bar',
data: data,
options: {
indexAxis: 'y',
plugins: {
legend: {
display: false
}
},
scales: {
y: {
stacked: true,
grid: {
display: false
}
},
y2: {
display: false
},
x: {
stacked: true,
beginAtZero: true,
grid: {
display: false
}
}
}
}
});

<canvas id="myChart" height="100"></canvas>
I'm trying to create a "chart" where I only want to show the x-axis. Basically I'm trying to create visualization of a range (min-max) and a point that sits in between like:
I'm unable to find any resources online on how to make this, or what this type of plot is even called. If anyone could help out, that would be awesome!
This is straightforward to achieve through styling a line chart appropriately and using linear x- & y-axes with points defined via x and y coordinates.
By keeping y at 0 you can assure the points all appear in the same horizontal position.
The example below gets the visual result you want, but you'll probably want to disable tooltips for the 'fake' x-axis line via a callback:
let range = {
min: 0,
max: 100
},
pointVal = 65;
new Chart(document.getElementById("chart"), {
type: "line",
data: {
labels: ["", "", ""],
datasets: [{
pointBackgroundColor: "green",
pointRadius: 10,
pointHoverRadius: 10,
pointStyle: "rectRot",
data: [{
x: pointVal,
y: 0
}]
}, {
// this dataset becomes the 'fake' x-axis line.
pointBackgroundColor: "black",
borderColor: "black",
data: [{
x: range.min,
y: 0
},
{
x: range.max / 2,
y: 0
},
{
x: range.max,
y: 0
}
]
}]
},
options: {
legend: {
display: false
},
hover: {
mode: "point"
},
layout: {
padding: {
left: 10,
right: 10,
top: 0,
bottom: 0
}
},
scales: {
xAxes: [{
type: "linear",
display: false
}],
yAxes: [{
display: false
}]
}
}
});

<div style="width:200px">
<canvas id="chart"></canvas>
</div>
Using a standard bar chart I am able to successfully create a chart with two datasets plotted on two y-axis. Working Example here: https://jsfiddle.net/pe8kxjqc/12/ How can I create the same chart as a horizontalBar chart with the labels on the left and the two dataset axes on the top and bottom?
The horizontalBar chart doesn't appear to handle the second axis as expected. I've tried the following but it doesn't work like expected:
var data = {
labels: ["Label1", "Label2", "Label3", "Label4", "Label5"],
datasets: [
{
"label": "Total V",
"xAxisID": "v",
"backgroundColor": "rgba(53,81,103,1)",
"borderColor": "rgba(53,81,103,.4)",
"data": [100,90,80,70,60]
},
{
"label": "Total C",
"xAxisID": "c",
"backgroundColor": "rgba(255,153,0,1)",
"borderColor": "rgba(255,153,0,.4)",
"data": [10,9,8,7,6]
}]};
var options = {scales:{
xAxes:[
{position:"top",id:"v", gridLines:{color:"rgba(53,81,103,.4)"}},
{position:"bottom",id:"c", gridLines:{color:"rgba(255,153,0,.4)"}}
]}};
var ctx = document.getElementById("myChart");
new Chart(ctx, {type: "horizontalBar",data:data, options:options});
You can have dynamic configuration for bar as well as horizontalBar you can use this configurations
Fiddle demo
var data = {
labels: ["Label1", "Label2", "Label3", "Label4", "Label5"],
datasets: [{
"label": "Total V",
"yAxisID": "A",
"backgroundColor": "rgba(53,81,103,1)",
"borderColor": "rgba(53,81,103,.4)",
"data": [100, 90, 80, 70, 60]
}, {
"label": "Total C",
"yAxisID": "A",
"backgroundColor": "rgba(255,153,0,1)",
"borderColor": "rgba(255,153,0,.4)",
"data": [10, 9, 8, 7, 6]
}]
};
var options = {
scales: {
yAxes: [{
id: 'A',
position: 'left'
}]
}
};
var ctx = document.getElementById("myChart");
new Chart(ctx, {
type: "horizontalBar",
data: data,
options: options
});
coming to your question the actual problem is with var options={...} it is made to work only with bar charts. Hope you understand
Update
Replace following as option in the chart above for required axis scales
var options = {scales:{yAxes:[{id: 'A',position: 'left',gridLines:{color:"rgba(53,81,103,.4)"}},{position:"top",id:"c", gridLines:{color:"rgba(255,153,0,.4)"},ticks: { min: 0,max: 100,}},]}};
updated fiddle
Basically you will need a y-axis for the first dataset which going to hold the labels. And you will need two x-axis for showing the values in the top and in the bottom.
The second dataset will go to the x-axis which is shown at the top.
Working fiddle included:
{
scales: {
yAxes: [{
id: 'A',
position: 'left',
display: true,
gridLines: {
color: "rgba(53,81,103,.4)"
}
}, ],
xAxes: [{
barPercentage: 0.4,
display: true,
id: "1",
position: 'bottom',
ticks: {
fontColor: 'rgb(0, 0, 0)'
},
fontSize: 500,
}, {
stacked: false,
barPercentage: 1,
display: true,
type: 'linear',
id: '2',
position: 'top',
ticks: {
fontColor: 'rgb(0, 0, 0)'
},
fontSize: 500,
}],
}
};
fiddle for two axis horizontal bar chart
I am creating line charts with 2 y-axes. one of those axes has two datasets but both run from the range of 0-100. The higher number being the better one. The second y-axis is usually lower in range (often in the single digits) and the best result is 1.
How can I invert the second y-axis so that 1 is at the top of the chart?
(I will try to find a solution myself, but at 5k+ lines in chart.js, it might take a while )
Thanks ^_^
Dev 2.0 of chart js supports an option to reverse the ticks when setting up the axis so your declaration of the second axis would become
{
type: "invertedLinear", // only linear but allow scale type registration. This allows extensions to exist solely for log scale for instance
display: true,
position: "right",
id: "y-axis-2",
ticks: {
reverse: true
},
// grid line settings
gridLines: {
drawOnChartArea: false, // only want the grid lines for one axis to show up
}
}
Here it is in action https://jsfiddle.net/nwc8ys34/15/
Using v 2.7.0, and the following seems to work:
options: {
scales: {
yAxes: [{
ticks: {
reverse: true,
}
}]
}
}
In v3 the scale configs have been changed so the desired behaviour can be accomplished like so:
const options = {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [40, 80, 100, 70, 60, 80],
borderColor: 'pink'
},
{
label: '# of Points',
data: [7, 11, 5, 8, 3, 7],
borderColor: 'orange',
yAxisID: 'y2'
}
]
},
options: {
scales: {
y: {},
y2: {
position: 'right',
reverse: true
}
}
}
}
const ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
const chart = new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.6.0/chart.js"></script>
</body>
