I need to use Vision API to OCR sensitive documents (passeports/IDs...). But Google Cloud doesn't seem to meet GDPR requirements and I'd prefer hosting the models on our servers.
Vision OCR On-prem exists (https://cloud.google.com/vision/on-prem) but I can't find any other information on how to install or use it. Only the pricing.
Has anyone ever done this before ? Is there any public documentation ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
If you don't want to jump through the hoops of working with Google's sales team for the on-prem vision solution, but you don't have an ML background to train/retrain your own model, you might consider Google AutoML. This would allow you to retrain a model with minimal effort - all in their web-based console - and the results would be downloadable and able to run on various platforms such as mobile (TFLITE) or in the browser (TFJS).
You can read about Vision API's data usage here: https://cloud.google.com/vision/docs/data-usage Note that Vision API doesn't retain your data.
If you still want to use Vision API OCR onprem anyway, you would have to contact sales: https://cloud.google.com/contact

How could a company's first technical employee (or a consultant) integrate cloud service costs into the company budget? My thinking is that when you build "serverless" or "autoscaling" services the company may ask
How much will this cost? $10/month? $1,000/month?
and it seems unclear how to manage those costs.
If we just do an example. Let's say I build a Heroku or Cloud Run (GCP) hosted dashboard, or a simple web app using Firebase. Who pays for it? I don't want company tools to run out of my credit card for obvious reasons.
Make sure you have technical solution of your problem.
Then, find out the size of your data in each request. How much bandwidth you will use? Where you will store the data? How much CPU you will use? etc.
Based on this extrapolate your cost for whole month.
Based on that you can use GCP calculator https://cloud.google.com/products/calculator
I would recommend to start with one of the major cloud providers free plans, for example in AWS you can open free account for 12 month and you can start building your serverless code, create api, store data and much more. after getting confidence with your solution you can present it to your company and decide later if they want to continue with payable usage or not.

A friend suggested me an idea for creating an adult entertainment site, and I liked it so I started with the project and I chose GCP for cloud services.
Site should allow users to upload their own content so it should be saved somewhere and that's not big deal but I wonder if given the nature of the content there's some kind of limitation or prohibition of storing certain type of files in GCP.
Anyone knows if so?
Google Cloud Storage is a great option to store files like images and videos. This service does not have restrictions about that kind of content (unless of course, the site promotes illegal activities) as you can see in its Acceptable Use Policy. You should also make sure you are not violating any intellectual property rights or the content would be removed or disabled as mentioned in its DMCA Policy.
As an extra, you might want to take a look at some of the tech restrictions from the service itself that may apply as a validation for your site:
Don't upload files greater than 5 TB.
Use valid names for your Buckets.
Making sure you are using valid file names.

Having some trouble finding a workable solution for MariaDB key management.
In the words of one of our devops guys - "File key management is somewhat akin to taping your car's key to the windscreen". So, we are looking for a secure way to implement data-at-rest encryption, but we are having trouble with both of the other options listed in the documentation.
AWS KMS
The MariaDB documentation states the following:
The AWS Key Management plugin depends on the AWS SDK for C++, which uses the Apache License, Version 2.0. This license is not compatible with MariaDB Server's GPL 2.0 license, so we are not able to distribute packages that contain the AWS Key Management plugin. Therefore, the only way to currently obtain the plugin is to install it from source.
Our servers are managed, and the response we received from the devops team was:
Building things from source is quite an anti-pattern within the
context of a Puppet-managed environment, so we need to figure out if
this is doable in a sane and sustainable way
Eperi Key Management
The MariaDB documentation states the following:
It reads encryption keys from eperi Gateway for Databases.
I contacted Eperi to get information about their Gateway for Databases solution, and this was the response I received from their sales team:
We will not be able to serve you. Please look for another way.
So Im at a bit of a dead end here :(
Has anybody in a similar situation been able to find a workable solution?

We have started to develop a game with our team. We are using Unity game engine. The game will be online. We consider to use Amazon servers. There are two questions we need an answer.
1- Is there any Amazon Network system? (Like Unity network) If there is a such system, do we need to use other documentation as well?
2- Could we use amazon network system for unity network as substructure?( at the same time there will be minimum 500K online players )
You will make us happy if you answer. Thanks!
I will do my best to answer your query however its a rather broad question.
Cloud Gaming exists already on AWS by major developers such as King, Red 5, Ubisoft, Sega and Naughty Dog plus many more. Check out the below link to read more about Gaming customers that are already choosing AWS as a provider for their cloud solutions.
https://aws.amazon.com/gaming/gaming-customer-references/
An extremely good article has been written by Jeff Barr of AWS about King's AWS solution is available for viewing below:
https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/king-using-amazon-cloudfront-to-deliver-mobile-games-to-over-200-countries/
General information about AWS for Gaming Cloud is also available below, however in addition to reading all that I have posted I would make contact with AWS sales as I know that they would be keen to talk to you about your specific needs and you will likely get a lot of support from them to help you aboard.
https://aws.amazon.com/gaming/cloud-gaming-game-industry-trends/
I hope this information helps, again make contact with AWS as I am confident that they will be interested to hear from you and keen to win you over.

Is there a API for Google Keep? I want to make a windows 8 app for Google Keep, so that it synchronizes with your phone.
I looked into the Drive SDK because Google Keep is a extension of Google Drive, but I couldn't find it.
UPDATE: yes, Google released a public REST API for Keep. Here's the public documentation.
No there's not and developers still don't know why google doesn't pay attention to this request!
As you can see in this link it's one of the most popular issues with many stars in google code but still no response from google! You can also add stars to this issue, maybe google hears that!
I have been waiting to see if Google would open a Keep API. When I discovered Google Tasks, and saw that it had an Android app, web app, and API, I converted over to Tasks. This may not directly answer your question, but it is my solution to the Keep API problem.
Tasks doesn't have a reminder alarm exactly like Keep. I can live without that if I also connect with the Calendar API.
