How to implement complete binary in c++? - c++

I want to try make insertion of complete binary tree using recursion . I make a piece of code and I cannot catch problem why value not inserted. I make height function and count nodes function with help of these function and recursive call I want to insert new node in Complete binary tree. In main get root by using get root function then send to insert function
#include<iostream>
#include<math.h>
using namespace std;
struct node{
int data;
node *left,*right;
};
class cbt{
node *root;
public:
cbt()
{
root=NULL;
}
node* get_node()
{
return root;
}
node* newNode(int key)
{
node* temp1 = new node;
temp1->data = key;
temp1->left = temp1->right = NULL;
return temp1;
}
void CBT_inseration(node* temp,int data)
{
node *ptr;
ptr=newNode(data);
if(root==NULL)
{
root=ptr;
return;
}
else
{
height = f_height(temp->left);
int excepted_node = pow(2,height)-1;
int left_tree_node_count = countNumNodes(temp->left);
int right_tree_node_count = countNumNodes(temp->right);
if(left_tree_node_count==right_tree_node_count)
{
CBT_inseration(temp->left,data);
}
else if(excepted_node != left_tree_node_count)
{
if(temp->left == NULL)
{
temp->left = ptr;
return;
}else
{
CBT_inseration(temp->left,data);
}
}
else if(temp->right == NULL)
{
temp->right=ptr;
return;
}
else if(excepted_node != left_tree_node_count)
{
if(temp->left == NULL)
{
temp->left=ptr;
return;
}
else
{
CBT_inseration(temp->right,data);
}
}
}
}
void print(node *root) {
if (root == NULL)
return;
print(root->left);
cout << root->data << " ";
print(root->right);
}
};
int main()
{
cbt obj;
node *r=NULL;
obj.CBT_inseration(obj.get_node(),4);
obj.CBT_inseration(obj.get_node(),3);
obj.CBT_inseration(obj.get_node(),5);
obj.CBT_inseration(obj.get_node(),8);
obj.print(obj.get_node());
return 0;
}

You would need to go through a debugger to see what is wrong with your code. I will tell you how I would do this:
First, you need a function to check if the tree is full. We will reuse your functions to do this:
bool isTreeFull(node* head) {
return head != NULL && countNumNodes(head) == (1 << find_height(head)) - 1;
}
Then for inserting I have to check if the number of nodes on each side are the same. This tells me that I am allowed to move one level deeper on the left side. If the number of nodes aren't the same, then I only move on to insert on the right subtree if the left subtree is full:
void CBT_inseration(int data) {
root = insert(root, data);
}
node* insert(node* head, int data) {
if (head == NULL) {
head = newNode(data);
} else {
int leftCount = countNumNodes(head->left);
int rightCount = countNumNodes(head->right);
if (leftCount == rightCount) {
head->left = insert(head->left, data);
} else {
if (isTreeFull(head->left)) {
head->right = insert(head->right, data);
} else {
head->left = insert(head->left, data);
}
}
}
return head;
}
Then you would call it like:
cbt obj;
obj.CBT_inseration(4);
obj.CBT_inseration(3);
obj.CBT_inseration(5);
obj.CBT_inseration(6);
obj.CBT_inseration(8);
obj.print(obj.get_node()); // 6 3 8 4 5

Binary Search Tree Using Classes

I have been trying to implement binary search tree using classes. Every time I try to compile and run the program, the program ends. I have tried many things like making the *root public to access it in main so I can update the root, but somehow it becomes null every time.
Help will be appreciated.
This is for my university project.
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
class tree;
class Node {
friend class tree;
private:
Node *lchild,*rchild;
int data;
public:
Node (int x) {
data = x;
lchild = rchild = NULL;
}
};

protected:
Node* root;
void inorder(const Node* root)const;
public:

}
bool insert(int item);
void inorder() const {inorder(root);};

}
};
bool tree :: insert(int item) {

return (bool) root;
}

}
if (item > root -> data) {

}

The reason why root gets NULL again and again is that it actually never changes its value to something else than NULL.
Maybe you have introduced this behaviour in your code in the course of fixing some other issues; yet you assign root=NULL in the constructor; afterwards, you assign only obj.root1 = ..., while you return root in getroot() { return root; }. Further, you pass Node *root as parameter in you insert function; Note that this local variable named root hides data member root, such that root->... in these functions will always address the local variable and not the data member.
Before diving around in code that's interface needs a redesign, I'd suggest to adapt the design and then adapt the code; I'm pretty sure the errors will simply go away. I'd suggest to adapt the interface of class tree as follows and write the code around it.
Member function inorder() should be const to indicate that it does not alter the object's state. Note that const-member functions can - in contrast to other non-static member functions - be called on const-objects.
class Node {
friend class tree;
private:
Node *lchild,*rchild;
int data;
public:
Node (int x) {
data = x;
lchild = rchild = NULL;
}
};
class tree {
public:
tree () { root = NULL; }
bool insert(int item) { return insert(item,root); };
void inorder() const { inorder(root);};
protected:
Node* root;
void inorder(const Node* curr) const;
bool insert(int item, Node* curr);
};
bool tree :: insert(int item, Node *currNode) {
if (root == NULL) {
root = new Node(item);
return true;
}
else if (item < currNode->data) {
if (currNode->lchild == NULL) {
currNode->lchild = new Node(item);
return true;
}
else {
return insert(item, currNode->lchild);
}
}
else if (item > currNode->data) {
if (currNode->rchild == NULL) {
currNode->rchild = new Node(item);
return true;
}
else {
return insert(item, currNode->rchild);
}
}
else // item == currNode->data
return false; // duplicate; do not insert
}
The biggest problem with your code are the following lines:
if (item < root -> data) {
insert(item);
}
if (item > root -> data) {
insert(item);
}
Basically you are saying that if the item is larger or smaller than the root data you will call the function again with the same item, you never changed the item and you will basically do this an infinity amount of times.....

A count function that counts the leaf nodes of a height balanced tree

I'm writing a function that counts the leaf nodes of a height balanced tree using struct and pointers. The function takes 3 arguments: the tree, pointer to an array and the maximum depth of the tree. The length of the array is the maximum depth. When function is called the array is initialized to zero. The function recursively follows the tree structure,
keeping track of the depth, and increments the right counter whenever it reaches a leaf. The function does not follow any pointer deeper than maxdepth. The function returns 0 if there was no leaf at depth greater than maxdepth, and 1 if there was some pointer togreater depth. What is wrong with my code. Thanks.
typedef int object;
typedef int key;
typedef struct tree_struct { key key;
struct tree_struct *left;
struct tree_struct *right;
int height;
} tree_n;
int count_d (tree_n *tr, int *count, int mdepth)
{
tree_n *tmp;
int i;
if (*(count + 0) == NULL){
for (i =0; i<mdepth; i++){
*(count + i) = 0;
}
}
while (medepth != 0)
{
if (tr == NULL) return;
else if ( tree-> left == NULL || tree->right == NULL){
return (0);
}
else {
tmp = tr;
*(count + 0) = 1;
int c = 1;
while(tmp->left != NULL && tmp->right != NULL){
if(tmp-> left){
*(count + c) = 2*c;
tmp = tmp->left;
return count_d(tmp, count , mdepth);
}
else if(tmp->right){
*(count + c + 1) = 2*c + 1;
tmp = tmp->right;
return count_d(tmp,count, mdepth);
}
c++;
mpth--;
}
}
}
What is wrong with my code
One thing I noticed is that you are missing return in the recursive calls.
return count_d(tmp, count , mdepth);
// ^^^ Missing
There are two such calls. Make sure to add return to both of them.
Disclaimer: Fixing this may not fix all your problems.

Basic Binary Tree Program c++

So I have been learning all about Binary Trees and decided to write a simple program to demonstrate to myself that I can implement my knowledge into working code. All I am trying to do with this code is add 4 numbers into a binary tree and output the numbers in order from least to greatest. Although, I did run into a problem with my code. When i run the code, Visual Studio breaks it at lines 29 and 59. I believe the problem has to do with the recursive function addLeaf but maybe its something else. Any advise, solutions, or input would be greatly appreciated.!
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
struct node
{
int data;
node* left;
node* right;
};
node* root = NULL;
node* createLeaf(int data)
{
node* n = new node;
n->data = data;
n->left = NULL;
n->right = NULL;
return n;
}
void addLeaf(int data)
{
node* curr = root;
//If tree is empty, create first node
if(root == NULL)
{
root = createLeaf(data);
}
//Left(Less than)
else if(data < curr->data)
{
//Check for curr->left
if(curr->left != NULL)
{
addLeaf(data);
}
else //Adds node to left if null
{
curr->left = createLeaf(data);
}
}
//Right(greater than)
else if(data > curr->data)
{
//Check for curr->right
if(curr->right != NULL)
{
addLeaf(data);
}
else //Adds node if right is Null
{
curr->right = createLeaf(data);
}
}
else
{
cout << "The data " << data << " has already been received\n";
}
}
void printTree(node* Ptr)
{
if(root != NULL)
{
if(Ptr->left != NULL)
{
printTree(Ptr->left);
}
cout << Ptr->data << " ";
if(Ptr->right != NULL)
{
printTree(Ptr->right);
}
cout << Ptr->data << " ";
}
else
{
cout << "The Tree is empty\n";
}
}
int main()
{
int data[4] = {1, 7, 5, 4};
node* Ptr = root;
for(int i = 0; i < 4; i++)
{
addLeaf(data[i]);
}
printTree(Ptr);
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}
one problem I can spot:
void addLeaf(int data)
{
node* curr = root;
.....
//Check for curr->left
if(curr->left != NULL)
{
addLeaf(data);
}
your so-called recursion did nothing. It only keep on calling addLeaf function, and the function keep on checking if root's left is not null and in turn call the addLeaf again.
Refactor all your code. Don't use any global variable. Make sure you passed correct parameters (e.g. you should pass the next level node to addLeaf)
The addleaf function is going to run infinitely. You only keep adding to the root without any check.
You assign Ptr to root, but then using new, assign it to some new address in memory, which the root does not point to.
You have to pass Ptr by reference to addLeaf, otherwise changes will be made to its copy which is destroyed as addLeaf terminates.
printTree prints the current node value twice (a copy paste error?)
Here is the complete code :
#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdlib>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
struct node
{
int data;
node* left;
node* right;
};
node* root = NULL;
node* createLeaf(int data)
{
node* n = new node;
n->data = data;
n->left = NULL;
n->right = NULL;
return n;
}
void addLeaf(node* &curr, int data)
{
//If tree is empty, create first node
if(curr == NULL)
{
curr = createLeaf(data);
}
//Left(Less than)
else if(data < curr->data)
{
addLeaf (curr->left, data);
}
//Right(greater than)
else if(data > curr->data)
{
addLeaf(curr->right, data);
}
else
{
cout << "The data " << data << " has already been received\n";
}
}
void printTree(node* Ptr)
{
if(root != NULL)
{
if(Ptr->left != NULL)
{
printTree(Ptr->left);
}
cout << Ptr->data << " ";
if(Ptr->right != NULL)
{
printTree(Ptr->right);
}
}
else
{
cout << "The Tree is empty\n";
}
}
int main()
{
int data[4] = {1, 7, 5, 4};
for(int i = 0; i < 4; i++)
{
addLeaf(root, data[i]);
}
printTree(root);
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}

Write a program, which converts the expression a b + c d e + * * into an expression tree using stack.

description
I don't know how to do this task.... but i just created a tree and enter value..can anyone please help me to do this task...the Stack is also of node type and we have to push value of operators like ab+ so we will push a as node then b as node and when + will come we make a tree and a and b will be its leafs node.

system("pause");
//tree.deleteAll();
}
Based on the code you have here, you only have a void insert(int d, Node *node) function, no void insert(operator o, Node *node) function.
I think this shows that you missed an important point here. Every node in the tree can either be an integer (as you did) or an operator. In both cases, I'd call it a string. Every node that is not a leaf must be an operator, and all leafs must be integers (or strings that represents operators/integer in our case).
Then, iterating over your input, the first three item should result in something like:
+
/ \
a b
The next step would be to build more sub trees (not sure of the definition of the input you have), keep them in your stack and then construct more inner nodes of the tree.
So if the tree I showed above is called Tree(+) (for ease of use), and the initial stack was [a,b,+,c,d,e,*,*], then after one iteration you'll have [Tree(+),c,d,e,*,*] and you continue from there.

Deleting in Binary Tree sulotion

After a few questions and some nice answers and friendly helpers here. I got the sulotion to my porblem with the deleting in the binary tree, i got suggested that, i can not just delet the largest number in the tree cause its may not the last or it has childrens 1 ,2 or none, so i made the code down below, i used a lot commenting hope that can help you people help me. What i actually dont know now, is how do i call this RemoveLargest() function in my public and then later in main, even though i dont know if the code will run properly.
#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cstdlib>
using namespace std;

{
T data;
Node* lChildptr;
Node* rChildptr;

rChildptr = NULL;
}
};

Node* root;
void Insert(T newData, Node* &theRoot) //Insert elements into the tree start.
{
if(theRoot == NULL)
{
theRoot = new Node(newData);

edited the code, now its running, its creating the tree, shows the largest, but after i call my remove function still crashing... =/
Like I said before, I think you're making things overly complicated. You have to think of what it means that your node is the largest one, in the context of a binary search tree and the relationship between the keys in its nodes.
If a node is the largest one in the tree it cannot possibly have a right child pointer, because the right child would have to have a larger key. And then, if you know that it has at most a left child, you just replace your node with its possibly null left child, and you're done.
T ExtractLargest(Node*& n){
if (!n)
return -1;
if (n->rChildptr)
return ExtractLargest(n->rChildptr);
T result = n->data;
Node *d = n;
n = n->lChildptr;
delete d;
return result;
}
