QStackWidget - Search by name - c++

I've searched a method into QT5 Docs and I couldn't find anything regarding a function that can get me all the elements within the StackWidget.
I have a StackWidget which contains the pages for my application, but so far the only way I found in order to be able to change that the page is this function setCurrentIndex which needs to take an index of that specific page. Is the anyway a function or something which cand return the name of the elements from that stackWidget or a way in which I can use the name of that object in order to change the page, not the index.

You may name your stack widgets using QObject::setObjectName function, and then iterate over them to find desired widget using its name, which is QObject::objectName.

How can I sort Items in `CListCtrl` when the button is clicked?

How can I sort Items in CListCtrl when the button is clicked?
I made a Dialog based application in MFC.
I put CListCtrl control on my Dialog and set its view style to report type.
I have two columns in this list view.
In here when I clicked the "Sorting" button, it should sort item in the list.
I saw many examples related to this, but none is working for me.
Can some one guide me how to do that?
I assume that you mean the column header when you write "sorting button".
You probably forgot to put this into the message map of your dialog:
ON_NOTIFY(LVN_COLUMNCLICK, IDC_LIST1, OnColumnclickList1)
IDC_LIST1 is the id of the list control which may be different in your code.
Are you somewhat familiar with MFC ? If not, you should follow one of the numerous tutorials available on the net.
I would use a CMFCListCtrl. It is easier, as it as built in sorting functionality and you only have to provide a function with the comparing items algorithm for sorting. I have succeeded using it. You have to override the OnCompareItems on your class derived from CMFCListCtrl. I also recommend you to do a call to EnableMarkSortedColumn(); after your list is created.
The CListCtrl has a SortItems method.
All you need to do is provide your Compare function to it as the parameter.
I don't know much about the contents of your list control so I can't really give you more information.
Please read up on it and extend your question with example code and details of which column needs to be sorted and I can help more.
If the contents of your cells are just text then I usually just return the value of:
return Value1.CollateNoCase(Value2);
There are also lots of tutorials on the Internet. For example:
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/27774/CListCtrl-and-sorting-rows
In fact, that tutorial suggests us in SortItemsEx. That is what I would use.

List of News Articles In Sitecore (Best Approach?)

I am creating a Sitecore MVC site for a client and I need to create page that will list news articles for the company.
So far, I have created items that use a shared data template called “Article,” and I also have a sublayout (a view rendering) called “Article” that will display these items.
For the list itself, my plan was to create another component (a sublayout) call “News_List”, and to put a placeholder in it called “List”.
My question is this: can I allow the author to insert articles (e.g., N items of type “Article”) into this placeholder via the page editor?
Will SC allow you to insert multiple instances of the same component into a placeholder? Will this break anything?
I believe this is a pretty common question but I have not found a definitive answer. Thanks in advance…!
You can insert as many components (of the same type) in your placeholder as you want.. Just make sure to put the placeholder settings correctly and give it a decent name (not just "list" ;))
But are you sure you want to do this? Your editors will manually need to create a list of components for each article they want to add on the page. Doesn't sound to be very user (editor) friendly.. Maybe you should consider creating a list component that can get a list of articles as a datasource and show those. Or even select them automatically (but that might be not according to your business case)..
Yes, authors can add multiple instances of the same component into a single placeholder.
Assuming that the code of the component doesn't do any stupid things it's absolutely ok to do this.

Can i know the old PIDL of a shell item when i handle SHChangeNotify with SHCNE_UPDATEITEM?

i have the following query:
Basically, i'm trying to change overlay icons according to my specific logic on a specific shell item.
whenever a shell item needs icon refresh, i'm calling
SHChangeNotify(SHCNE_UPDATEITEM, SHCNF_IDLIST | SHCNF_FLUSH, [Item], NULL)
because sadly i can't send any custom data (to tell the item what exactly changed), i will have to do my logic inside the method of:
IShellFolder.ParseDisplayName
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb775090(v=vs.85).aspx
This method is called for that specific item that requires the update, and i've noticed the following:
hwnd is always null
pszDisplayName is the name of the updated item
the thing is, that i have to return in the ppidl the updated item (which i have to create it again and serialize it all over again).
i have several issues:
i only have the display name of the item - which is not enough, as there are more serialized attributes for my shell item and i'm losing it when i'm creating the item again (for the refresh purpose) - is it possible to get the current children of the parent folder and find the old shell item? (creating the new one from the old one)
is there any way to pass custom data that i'll be able to receive in the ParseDisplayName? this way i can tell the item exactly which icon it needs instead of trying to figure it out from a state in the server
I'm passing the serialized pidl of the item to the SHChangeNotify, and i saw that the parent folder ParseDisplayName is called, does it know to call only my specific folder because i serialize the parent aswell i guess?
i thought about using the display name for my custom data, for example, if i have an item named "VirtualFile", i can call SHChangeNotify and give the item a new name "VirtualFile--CustomData--ChangeIconToBlue" something like this - this is not recommended i guess right?
any best practice to handle that event?
many thanks!
This is an old one, but if someone looks - ive eventually passed the data in the display name (method 4) and parsed it out when ParseDisplayName was called

How to generate custom unique ID

We are using Sitecore 7.2 with multi-site implementation. The actual data is shared between multisite, hence it's been stored in common Global Item folder.
We are facing a problem generating aunique ID on URL. I had a good search but could not find any solution except to use Sitecore Item ID.
This is what we want:
domain/players/player_id
e.g. domain/players/1234
where 1234 is uniquely generated ID.
Could someone please suggest if this is possible?
Every page that is managed in Sitecore is a Sitecore Item. As such, you should be able to just navigate to the name of the player item. If you were trying to say in your post that player items are stored in globals and not as pages, then you are left with the following options:
Query String: domain/players/player?playerId={ID}
If this is the route that you choose to take then I would suggest using the player item's Sitecore ID for the value of the query string parameter.
If you have other IDs then put the specified ID there, however it would be easiest with Sitecore IDs
What you would then do is get the item with the ID specified in the query string parameter (or get the item with the player ID specified in the query string parameter, depending on which route you take) and display the data for that player on the page
Sitecore.Context.Database.GetItem(Request.QueryString["playerId"])
playerItems.FirstOrDefault(playerItem => playerItem["Player ID"] == Request.QueryString["playerId"])
Note that this assumes that the Player ID is a field, not the Sitecore ID
If it is the Sitecore ID then change the lambda to use playerItem.ID == new ID(Request.QueryString["playerId"]
Regardless of which one you use, I suggest adding null checks to the QueryString getter
Sublayout Parameters
If you use this method, the query string will not change and people will not be able to get to the page from the direct URL
The process is the same as for query strings, except that you are using Sublayout parameters instead
Note that you must set these in a parent sublayout or in Sitecore (which means that you have a separate page for each player - i.e. this would be a bad solution)
Virtual Items
This is really what I think you are looking for
This can be a lot of work if you do it from scratch, or you can use the Wildcard Module
If you do it from scratch, you will need a custom pipeline and/or processor for handling the requests
Good suggestions from Zachary. I will add a couple more:
1) IIS Rewrite Module. If what you are really after is having external URLs look like /domain/players/1234, you could easily accomplish this by forwarding these requests to something like Zachary's option #1. The client sees /domain/players/1234, but it's really handled by a single Sitecore item at /domain/player/player.aspx?playerid=1234. Client doesn't have to know that.
2) Custom ItemResolver pipeline handler. Custom Pipelines may be a bit intimidating at first, but they are actually pretty easy to implement and highly useful. Would be pretty straightforward to add a new one which checked for "players/1234" and set the ContextItem to your player handling page and drop the ID into a session variable or some context variable.

Selecting a datasource item for preset components

Before digging into my explanation i will summarize my question:
How do I provide the user (editor) with a user-friendly possibility to select a datasource item for sublayouts that are preset on the standard values?
My situation is as follows:
I have a page template, with pre-defined layout on the standard values.
Let's say the layout consists of:
one placeholder "wrapper"
one sublayout "content"
This sublayout is pre-defined on my page template, but can also be placed in the placeholder using the Page Editor.
It needs to have a datasource item that defines a Title and Body value.
Now, if a user adds this sublayout to the placeholder using the Page Editor, he will get a nice interface to select or create the datasource item (see screenshot).
However, if the sublayout was pre-defined on the standard values, it will be added without datasource (I can't pre-set the data source in the standard values because it's still unknown by then).
At that point there seems to be no way to get to that nice interface for selecting or creating a datasource item.
Ideally I want to be able to add a field to my template that can hold a datasource item which the user can select/create using the nice interface. I looked at the datasource field type, which could be an alternative, but it's still not exactly what I want.
Bare in mind that the content sublayout is just an example.
I understand that in that specific case I could solve it by always adding a title/body field to the template which hold the values if there is no datasource, but for my real world problem that won't suffice.
I don't have a whole lot of experience with the Page Editor (with the new way of working with it) so I would like to get some advice on this subject.
According to what you said here:
Ideally I want to be able to add a field to my template that can hold a datasource item which the user can select/create using the nice interface. I looked at the datasource field type, which could be an alternative, but it's still not exactly what I want.
It seems you want an intuitive data source selector interface in the CMS shell similar to the Page Editor-based UI.
Quick answer: Simply put, there's nothing that does this for you in Sitecore.
Longer answer: There are still some options for you, e.g.
Define a global "dummy" data source and set that to be the data source set in in Presentation > Layout Details of the template's standard values. So every time you create a new page, it will always point to that dummy value to show something.
From here you can do a few things:
If the user must use the shell UI and not Page Editor, they can simply create another data source item for the specific page and update that page to point to it using the existing native interface in Layout Details.
Another option is to write an event handler, say for item:created or similar that when you create an item, auto-create a corresponding data source item for this specific page (whether this auto-created item be a sub-items or global item...) then programmatically set this to be the data source. A similar concept is shown in this video by Nick Wesselman: http://www.techphoria414.com/Blog/2012/May/Sitecore_Page_Editor_Unleashed
