I have created an S3 bucket, not sure what am I missing with IAM lifecycle policies.
Files in s3 bucket are automatically moving to tombstone folder after few days. how to stop this?
I have enabled only "Server access logging" in properties tab. And there are no life cycle rules are attached.

I have a Laravel application that is hosted on AWS. I am using an S3 bucket to store files. I know that I have successfully connected to this bucket because when I upload files, they appear as I would expect inside the bucket's directories.
However, when I try to use the URL attached to the uploaded file to display it, I receive a 403 Forbidden error.
I have an IAM user set up named laravel which has the permission AmazonS3FullAccess applied to it, and I am using that key/secret.
I have the Object URL like so:
https://<BUCKET NAME>.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/<DIR>/<FILENAME>.webm
But if I try to access that either in my app (fed into an audio player) or just via the link directly, I get a 403. None of the tutorials I've followed to get this working involve Bucket Policies, but when I've googled the problems I'm having, Bucket Policy seems to come up.
Is there a single source of truth on how I am to do this? My AWS knowledge is very limited, but I am trying to get better!
When you request a URL of the form https://bucket.s3.amazonaws.com/dog/snoopy.png, that request is unauthenticated. Your S3 bucket policy does not allow unauthenticated access to the contents of the bucket so that request is denied with 403.
If you want your files to be downloadable by an unauthenticated/anonymous client then create an S3 bucket policy to allow that.
Alternatively, your server can create signed URLs and share those with the client.
Otherwise, your client's requests need to be authenticated, which means having correctly-permissioned credentials and using an AWS SDK.
Typically, back-end applications that you write that need access to data in S3 (or other AWS resources) would be given AWS credentials allowing the necessary access. If your back-end application runs in AWS then you would do that by launching the compute with an IAM role.
Typically, front-end applications would not have AWS credentials. Instead they would either authenticate to a back-end that then does work with AWS resources on their behalf. There are other options, however, such as AWS Amplify apps.
My application runs on the client PC. It produces log files including error reports and user's action.
To collect and analyze log files, I try to upload log files to Amazon S3 from the client PC.
But is it safe? My app has no authentication so that users can upload unlimited number of files. I am concerned with maricious user upload a fake error report and huge file. I'd like s3 bucket not to exceed free quota. Is there any best practice for this task?
Just make sure that the files you are uploading to Amazon S3 are kept as Private and the Amazon S3 bucket is kept as private. These are the default settings and are enforced by Amazon S3 block public access unless somebody has specifically changed the settings.
With this configuration, the files are only accessible to people with AWS credentials that have been granted permission to access the S3 bucket.
Additionally to John's answer you can use AWS KMS (https://aws.amazon.com/kms/?nc1=h_ls) to encrypt your data at rest.
With regards of the file size, you should limit the size of the uploaded file in your application I would say.
I have an Amazon S3 bucket that is being used by CloudTrail.
However, the S3 bucket is not visible in S3.
When I click on the bucket in CloudTrail, it links to S3 but I get access denied.
The bucket is currently in use by CloudTrail, and based on the icons that seems to be working fine.
So, it seems this is an existing bucket but I cannot access it!
I also tried to access the S3 bucket with the root account, but the same issue occurs there.
Please advise on how I would regain access.
Just because cloudtrail has access to the bucket, doesn't mean your account also does.
You would need to talk to whoever manages your security and request access. or if this is your account, make sure you are logged in with credentials that have the proper access.
I am using AWS S3 for serving assets to my website, now even though I have added cache-control metadata header to all my assets my daily overall bandwidth usage almost got doubled in past month.
I am sure that traffic on my website has not increased dramatically to account for increase in S3's bandwidth usage.
Is there a way to find out how much a file is contributing to the total bill in terms of bandwidth or cost ?
I am routing all my traffic through cloudfare so it should be protected against DDoS attack.
I expect the bandwidth of my S3 bucket to reduce or to get some valid reason which explains why bandwidth almost doubled when there's no increase in daily traffic.
You need to enable Server Access Logging on your content bucket. Once you do this, all bucket accesses will be written to logfiles that are stored in a (different) S3 bucket.
You can analyze these logfiles with a custom program (you'll find examples on the web) or AWS Athena, which lets you write SQL queries against structured data.
I would focus on the remote IP address of the requestor, to understand what proportion of requests are served via CloudFlare versus people going directly to your bucket.
If you find that CloudFlare is constantly reloading content from the bucket, you'll need to give some thought to cache-control headers, either as metadata on the object in S3, or in your CloudFlare configuration.

To enable CloudTrail data events logging for objects in an S3 bucket:
Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the Amazon S3 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/s3/.
In the Bucket name list, choose the name of the bucket that you want.
Choose Properties.
Choose Object-level logging.
Choose an existing CloudTrail trail in the drop-down menu. The trail you select must be in the same AWS Region as your bucket, so the drop-down list contains only trails that are in the same Region as the bucket or trails that were created for all Regions.
If you need to create a trail, choose the CloudTrail console link to go to the CloudTrail console. For information about how to create trails in the CloudTrail console, see Creating a Trail with the Console in the AWS CloudTrail User Guide.
Under Events, select Read to specify that you want CloudTrail to log Amazon S3 read APIs such as GetObject. Select Write to log Amazon S3 write APIs such as PutObject. Select both Read and Write to log both read and write object APIs. Choose Create to enable object-level logging for the bucket.
To disable object-level logging for the bucket, you must go to the CloudTrail console and remove the bucket name from the trail's Data events.
Is it possible to log when an upload or deletion of a file happens in s3 via the management console? From what I can tell, CloudTrail allows object level logging of events via API calls, as well as a few management console actions, like signing in to the console. But I can't figure out how to log uploads/deletes via the console. Thanks!
To enable S3 Access Logs:
Go to Amazon S3 console.
Select your bucket.
Click on the Properties tab.
Click on Server access logging.
Enter the name of the bucket to store the logs in. This must be different than the bucket that you are tracking. Optionally enter a target prefix.
Server Access Logging
