I checked my file manager and main.cpp and #main.cpp# are in the location /home/ics45c/projects/proj1/app
Also I don't understand the other CMake errors after CMakeLists.txt either. What does it mean that it can't determine the linker language?

I just don't understand any of this, and this is also my first Stackoverflow post.

Cmake using git-submodule inside a shared library

I try to add the library spdlog to a dll (.so file). The spdlog is just a git submodule from the spdlog library. Looking at the documentation, it's recommended to use it as a static library. So i think i have a problem trying to compile it inside a .so file.
To get a clear view of what i'm doing, here is a pic of my system:
My root CMakeLists.txt is :
cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 3.23)
# set the project name
project(Test VERSION "0.1.0" LANGUAGES CXX)
configure_file(config/config.h.in config.h)
# specify the C++ standard
set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD 17)
set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD_REQUIRED True)
set(CMAKE_WINDOWS_EXPORT_ALL_SYMBOLS ON)
set(CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS} -std=c++17 -O3")
# Set location for .so files
set(CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX "${CMAKE_BINARY_DIR}")
# Set location for executables
set(EXECUTABLE_OUTPUT_PATH ${CMAKE_BINARY_DIR}/bin)
add_subdirectory(Engine)
list(APPEND EXTRA_LIBS Engine)
add_subdirectory(Game)
target_link_libraries(Test PUBLIC ${EXTRA_LIBS})
target_include_directories(Test PUBLIC
"${PROJECT_BINARY_DIR}"
)
And inside the Engine folder:
message(STATUS "BUILD Engine shared library File")
add_subdirectory(spdlog)
add_library(Engine SHARED Log.cpp Log.h)
target_include_directories(Engine
INTERFACE ${CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR}
)
target_link_libraries(Engine
spdlog
)
target_include_directories(Engine
INTERFACE ${CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR}/spdlog/include
)
Inside the Game (not relevant at my opinion)
message(STATUS "BUILD .exe File")
# add the executable
add_executable(Test main.cpp)
But currently, if i try to use the spdlog inside my Log file, i have this cryptic error:
[build] /usr/bin/ld: spdlog/libspdlogd.a(spdlog.cpp.o): relocation R_X86_64_TPOFF32 against `_ZGVZN6spdlog7details2os9thread_idEvE3tid' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks to fabian in the comments, I add
set(CMAKE_POSITION_INDEPENDENT_CODE 1)
Just before adding the spdlog subdirectory and it just works fine.

mingw-g++ can't find include directory

I'm trying to compile my program for Windows, on Linux, so I installed the w64-mingw32 compiler via the Debian package manager. I made a separate cmakelists file where I chose x86_64-w64-mingw32-g++ as the compiler. When I try to run my build script, I get errors where it can't find the libraries that I use in my project. This is my cmake file:
cmake_minimum_required (VERSION 3.5)

A lot of the code in the cmakelists file doesn't do anything because I was trying to make it work but nothing was working. I left it in so you can see what I've tried and doesn't work.
I can run this and it compiles, but I get a linker error.

Does anyone know how I can fix this, or a better way to compile for Windows on Linux?
You need to build the libraries you're using for Windows, or find prebuilt ones, e.g. in MSYS2 repositories. You also need to point CMake to those libraries.
I've made Quasi-MSYS2 to automate both.
Example usage:
# Install Clang, LLD, Wine. Then:
git clone https://github.com/holyblackcat/quasi-msys2
cd quasi-msys2/
make install _gcc _glfw _glew
env/shell.sh
# Build
cd your/project/location
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make
# Run with Wine
./a.exe
Here is CMakeLists.txt I've used. I removed the cross-compilation stuff (which is handled automatically).

add_executable(a 1.cpp)
message(STATUS ${OPENGL_LIBRARIES})
target_link_libraries(a PUBLIC ${GLFW_LIBRARIES} ${OPENGL_LIBRARIES} GLEW::GLEW)
I also put them in /usr/x86_64-w64-mingw32/include/
You shouldn't modify system include directories manually. Leave them to your package manager.

Cmake exe file just run in my system in Sunshine project [terminate called after throwing an instance of std::filesystem::__cxx11::filesystem_error]

I want to create one .exe file from the Sunshine GitHub program, I'm new to Cmake and I build that program with its help
git clone https://github.com/loki-47-6F-64/sunshine.git --recursive
cd sunshine && mkdir build && cd build
cmake -G"Unix Makefiles" ..
mingw32-make
It builds and runs correctly and creates .exe, but works only in my system.
On other systems, it gets filesystem errors and shows the path of the system that I build it:
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'std::filesystem::__cxx11::filesystem_error' what(): filesystem
error: cannot copy file: No such file or directory

I think in this file something makes this issue but I don't know.
This is its release file that works correctly and doesn't have my issue:
https://github.com/loki-47-6F-64/sunshine/releases/download/v0.9.0/Sunshine-Windows.zip
How can I create like this?
I fixed My problem by running CMake with one additional parameter.
cmake -G "Unix Makefiles" -DSUNSHINE_ASSETS_DIR=assets ..
exe program needs to know assets and also after that assets folder should be near the exe file like a programmer release.

CMake searches include files in system directories first

I have a library that uses CMake as a building system. It builds for ubuntu, but not for windows.
The issue happens because on windows it searches 'Math.h' in system directories first, but not in the project's 'include' directory.
I've tried to rename all 'Math' files and class by 'Math2' and it works great. But I don't want to rename the class and files.
What do I have to do?

add_executable(${PROJECT_NAME} ${SOURCES})
set_property(TARGET ${PROJECT_NAME} PROPERTY CXX_STANDARD 17)
target_link_libraries(${PROJECT_NAME} pthread soci_core soci_mysql)
target_compile_options(${PROJECT_NAME} PRIVATE -Wall -Wextra)
I've tried to add:
find_package(mysql REQUIRED)
include_directories (${MYSQL_INCLUDE_DIR})
but I get that there is no package configuration file.
I've also tried to reinstall soci and mysql connector.
I've solved this problem by using this: https://github.com/Gancc123/flame-sp/blob/c8108823dea205e25abac03942534996710109f3/cmake/modules/Findmysql.cmake
