I am choosing between Trac and Redmine. Leaving dogma out (they use Python and Ruby, resp.) I'm test-driving both to choose based on the usability of the UI.
At the outset I'm seeing a discrepancy between a demo of Redmine
and the view that I get when I install Redmine and launch the server locally.
Where is the difference coming from?
The first screenshot above is from Planio, a hosted Redmine service. Some time ago, they've rolled out a custom, more modern design for their customers.
At the time, Planio published a blog article about the design goals and the process.
They used a theme.

A bit of background
I work for a little company as Django developer. The previous developer left the company and I am the only developer (that is the reason they were looking for a Django developer). The company has a simple web application that needs to be mantained and scaled. It seems that the company is getting sales and incomes are increasing. There is a possibility to hire another developer in the short or mid-term. Right now I am analizing possible improvements. This is my first professional job as Django developer, but I achieved to deploy some little personal projects in the past. As you can imagine I am not an expert at all.
The issue
We use a Ubuntu VPS for development, using Django's integrated web server. And another Ubuntu VPS for production, using Nginx+Gunicorn. We use git for version control. The only user we use (for everything) in both VPS is root. I don't work locally in my computer, but connected via ssh to the servers. These are my insights about the structure:
Use of root is unsafe. No doubt about it and we should change this.
What if another developer is hired? Could we work together in the development server?
The question
As the title says, I want to know which would be the perfect working structure for a developers team. After googling a few hours my approach would be something like this:
Production server.
Testing server (replicating as much as possible the production server).
Development environment. Every developer should work and test their code locally in their computers before testing it in the Testing server.
Use of Git for version control.
Use of non-root users for both testing and production servers.
This is just my point of view and I haven't even tried it. I would appreciate you to share your knowledge and experiences.
Thanks in advance!
Team,
I am a beginner on site core 9.0. We have a requirement to migrate the existing MVC 5.0 application to sitecore 9.0. I am trying to build a POC first by having a basic mvc 5.0 web application having a login page.
May i know step by step process to migrate this to site core 9.0. I have tried all resources...(may be i have missed some) and i am confused.
Can anyone please guide me with proper links/information.
Probably the best way to start is by taking a brief introductory course into Sitecore to learn the terminology and how things are put together. There are also a lot of online resources to help you get started (Google "getting started with Sitecore").
Joining the community (like this one, the one on sitecore.stackexchange.com, Sitecore Slack, Community Forums) will put you in touch with a lot of developers who can help you through your steps as you move piece by piece.
Your particular question here is a little too vague to answer accurately. There are a lot of things that need to be done and it all depends on your scenario and your existing MVC application. It may be more helpful to ask specifics about a particular scenario you are migrating, with code examples, and what you have tried already.
You also need to think about what you are trying to migrate. Are you moving to run off of a Content Delivery server? Or are you building your MVC application to consume Sitecore as a headless application? Those would be two entirely different migration approaches.
I'm building a website which requires forum integration to a Sitecore build - I've checked on the Sitecore website and they suggest YetAnotherForum and Telligent Community Integration Module. Both of these modules tho only support up till 6.4.1 and 6.4 respectively - I'm using Sitecore 7.0.
Logged a ticket with Sitecore and they came back with the following:
We have no information about Forum modules that are compatible with Sitecore 7.1. I would recommend you to contact your regional office and check whether they could advise you something.
Any suggestions?
First of all Telligent supports Sitecore 7.

I have been working with Sitecore and Telligent Community integration from quite time and from my experience i have this opinion.
For deep integration it is quite a lot of work and requires much knowledge of both the product and costs will be high for licensing & deployment. But i can assure you that Telligent will work in Sitecore newer version also. However with higher costs you will get more rich functionality, Facebook like Activity Stream, and Apart from Forums it also has Blogs, Wikis, Media Gallery.
Telligent supports two kind of integrations:
1. Side by Side Integration - In this Sitecore and Telligent both will be user facing.
2. Integration mode - In this user will be mostly in Sitecore.

If you are Sitecore Partner you will get trial license of Telligent. For details check 'Social Starter Kit' on Sitecore SDN site. Also there is video on YouTube regarding Sitecore & Telligent Integration in Sitecore Virtual User Group community.
I have no experience on YAF module so can't suggest on that.
Did you try to install YAF integration module, https://marketplace.sitecore.net/en/Modules/YAF_integration.aspx, i think it would run on Sitecore 7, since this module mainly integrate YAF with Sitecore security, i don't see why it should not run on Sitecore 7.
The Telligent product was renamed, I suggest you take a look at http://www.zimbra.com/products/zimbra-community/sitecore-starter.html and contact them. I'm unaware of what version they're targeted at right now.
I want to create a web app using Django 1.5 or 1.6 using appEngine. I have read about as I have to do it and I have read about Django-nonrel which is very usefull to avoid the issues related with non-relational Database. Unfortunately I have read about the origininal creators project and they have left the project:
GoodBye
However I have seen new avaiables versions of Django AppEngine wich allow to use the 1.4 and 1.5 versions of Django
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/django-non-relational/I06693ZPeME
After I have read every text I am a mess, do anyone redomended me use last version of django non-rel? can I use other framework? don't I use the last verion of Django?
Thank you.
I have developed a fairly complex web app using "normal" Django, not the non-rel flavour. For database storage I use Google Cloud SQL which is basically MySQL in the cloud. It works pretty good. There are some points to consider:
Google Cloud SQL has no "free plan", so it will incur a cost on your project.
Normal Django for GAE is currently at version 1.4 and lags a bit behind development which is if memory serves me right at 1.6. There is a version 1.5 of Django that comes with the GAE SDK but I did not get that work (I did not put any particular effort in it, just changed the Django version in my app.yaml file and it crashed).
As for the first bullet, there's now also a comparable product available from Amazon. I have not yet looked into it (I believe they do offer a free plan which might be interesting to try out), nor compared prices but that might be an alternative should Google Cloud SQL be too expensive. My yearly cost for Google Cloud SQL are between £150 and £200 which is not too bad.
My reason for choosing normal Django over non-rel was basically twofold:
The non-rel project appears abandoned.
The non-rel product is "crippled" in functionality according to some of the docs I read about it and you will not be able to use all of the pre-baked goodies of Django.
I have been working on this project for 7 months now and I find Django on GAE with Google Cloud SQL very stable and productive environments. FWIW, I use PyCharm which has a one click deployment feature which makes deploying my product an absolute breeze. I've been working on IT projects with various technologies for quite some time and the combination of PyCharm, Python, Django, GAE and Google Cloud SQL would be at the top of my list of productive environments.
Of course there are other Python frameworks to consider, like Flask which allow more of a best-of-breed approach but I have no experience with them.
Hope this helps.
I'm using django-nonrel 1.4, though I haven't updated to the latest build yet. It's running smoothly for me.
You do need to recognize that if you use django-nonrel, you have to live by the rules of the GAE HRD, especially the eventually consistent results, and the limited query capabilities.
Django-nonrel is definitely not abandoned! I am using the 1.6 version with much success at Docket Alarm and it is still being actively maintained.

Is there any chance that an application developed with Pinax could be deployed in Google App Engine?
As I know, Pinax is based on Django, and integrates tons of applications, it is suitable for building even a social networking site. It's extremely useful but I wonder if I can deploy it on google app engine.
Thank you,
The main issue here is that Django ORM is not compatible with GAE's datastore but some work has already been made to port Pinax using app-engine-patch. Here is the repository.
The key of course is JOIN support for the many to many model relationships. Since this is already being solved for 'eventual consistency' context, there should be no reason that we couldn't. I'm in the middle of moving the social demo over right now.
"Hoang"-
It looks like there was a release on Aug 2, 2009, to include Django 1.1 (see http://code.google.com/p/app-engine-patch/wiki/ReleaseNotes )
I know you said July, and August 2 isn't much different than July. :)
I, too, am interested in Pinax on App Engine. Please report your findings, if you try it!
Pinaxcombo does it only for the blog part of Pinax. Has there been any effort to port the 'entire' Pinax onto GAE?
