How to fix truncated syntax highlighting in Xcode for Macron Characters - c++

In my project, I'm attempting to use identifiers with Macrons in them (which is perfectly valid, and everything still compiles).
The problem is that Xcode truncates syntax highlighting after the first occurrence of a character with a macron.
The standard answers for text highlighting issues have been:
Turn it off and on again.
Delete Derived Data, and turn it off and on again.
I've tried both with no success.
This example photo uses typedef to demonstrate the issue. For reference, ira and tōpū both roughly equate to float and int.
As you can see, the highlighting stops after the first t of tōpū, but ira is fully highlighted.
I would like to know how to get Xcode to recognise the macron characters and continue highlighting the entire identifier. Thanks!

How to find and replace box character in text file?

I have a large text file that I'm going to be working with programmatically but have run into problems with a special character strewn throughout the file. The file is way too large to scan it looking for specific characters. Most of the other unwanted special characters I've been able to get rid of using some regex pattern. But there is a box character, similar to "□". When I tried to copy the character from the actual text file and past it here I get "�", so the example of the box is from Windows character map which includes the code 'U+25A1', which I'm not sure how to interpret or if it's something I could use for a regex search.
Would anyone know how I could search for the box symbol similar to "□" in a UTF-8 encoded file?

Here is an example from the text file:
"� Prune palms when flower spathes show, or delay pruning until after the palm has finished flowering, to prevent infestation of palm flower caterpillars. Leave the top five rows."
The only problem is that, as mentioned in the original post, the square gets converted into a diamond question mark.
It's unclear where and how you are searching, although you could use the hex equivalent:

The black diamond with a question mark is not a character, per se. It is what a browser spits out at you when you give it unrecognizable bytes.
Find out where that data is coming from.
Determine its encoding. (Usually UTF-8, but might be something else.)
Be sure the browser is configured to display that encoding. This is likely to suffice <meta charset=UTF-8> in the header of the page.
I found a workaround using Notepad++ and this website. It's still not clear what encoding system the square is originally from, but when I post it into the query field in the website above or into the Notepad++ Conversion Table (Plugins > Converter > Conversion Table) it gives the hex-character code for the "Replacement Character" which is the diamond with the question mark.
Using this code in a regex expression, \x{FFFD}, within Notepad++ search gave me all the squares, although recognizing them as the Replacement Character.

What's this curly brace comma syntax in Visual Studio?

What is this weird syntax you can use the the watch window (or even to set breakpoints) and where can I find it documented:
{,,test2.exe}<variable name>
When starting the program, the first will translate to my entry point and will break on execution start.
Intuitively I can see what this means, but where is it documented and what are the leading commas for (what stuff can you put in there)?
Why does using the syntax in the watch window help?
As the VS2015 documentation states, that is called a Context Operator, valid only for C++ native applications.
You could put function and source file before the first and the second comma.
For VS2010 and previous versions the documentation is slightly different and more verbose.

C++ Error-code <U+0013>

I have a function in C++ that I am testing, and after careful inspection I'm pretty sure everything is correct. However, I'm still getting a mysterious error relating to the "return" statement at the end of the function.
Where "population" is a real matrix (using the armadillo matrix package).
Looks like the error code represents a Unicode value. Check if the file is clean of characters which shouldn't be there (copy paste into notepad and then copy paste back).
You have accidentally managed to enter the Device Control 3 character (which has the unicode value U+0031) before return and after ;. The character is probably invisible for you, which is why you aren't seeing anything.
Replace those with spaces. You can probably turn your editor into some kind of "show invisibles" mode which might help.
If you are used to using Emacs keybindings and tried to Cx-s Cx-c to save and quit in another IDE ie Xcode it will insert odd unicode characters.

Formatting of switch statement

Say I have my cursor position to the right of a right facing case curly brace, like so:
Now, if I press enter, I expect it to auto align the cursor two tabs in, just like the break statement. But what it does is this:
It adds a ridiculous five tabs! Knowing that Visual studio has a metric ton of settings, I navigate to Tools::Settings::Text Editor::C/C++::Formatting::Indentation, and see the following window:
But changing the highlighted options in any combination actually doesn't affect the indentation at all! None of the other options seem to apply to switch statements, so I don't know what to do. How do I make it not indent 5 spaces, without disabling auto formatting?
And I might add, it not only places 5 tabs when I press enter at the end of the curly brace, but when any auto format event takes place. So when I add a semicolon at the end of a line it places 5 tabs even if I had taken them out before.
This is probably a bit late for you now, but in case someone else finds this issue: it seems to be a Visual Studio bug, you're probably running the freshly installed version of the VS2K13 called REL.
Downloading the Update 4 at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44921 helped in my case.
The curly braces ({ and }) are throwing off the auto-indenter, and it's indenting to one tab beyond the brace.
Braces there are not illegal in a switch statement, but they usually don't do you any good. Unless you need it for scoping a variable declaration, just remove the curly braces. You'll get the same code flow, and you won't confuse the auto-indenter.
EDIT
Come to think of it, you can solve this by simply moving the brace to a new line. This isn't necessarily horrible - it highlights that you're using a brace.

I went into VS2013 and created a new project and just tried making a really simple switch but it formatted correctly for me, even with the curly braces. Are you able to post that set of code?
The only other thing I can think of is maybe a setting on how braces are set up, but I don't know why that would affect it. (Nor do I think there is really even a setting for that for C++...) Other than that though you could try just not using the braces at all since you are inside a case statement, you don't technically need them.
Other than that something may have happened during installation. So re-installing is an option too.

Also, could just go with it and finish the code and then when finished just highlight the rows and un-indent ([SHIFT]+[TAB]) them back to their correct spot.

Why does CodeBlocks 12.11, on windows, underline my comments with red zigzag lines, and how do I turn this feature off?

How do I turn off the "spell-checker like" feature in CodeBlocks on windows?
I also just now realized that if I add a "\" (back-slash) to the end of my comment, the next line if code is also commented. Has this always been standard for c++?
Mine was underlining all my comments and strings, too. Turns out when I downloaded codeblocks, the language wasn't set to English. If you look in the bottom right corner of the codeblocks window, there is a little flag. You can right click it and select the correct language. Hope this helps!
Open Code::Blocks.
Go to plugins -> Manage Plugins
Select Spell Checker and disable it.
Has this always been standard for c++?
Well, rather for the C preprocessor (which C++ uses exhaustively). Yes, it's a documented feature: the backslash-newline sequence acts as a line continuation marker (i. e., the backslash "invalidates", escapes the newline, effectively making the preprocessor treat the consecutive lines separated by backslashes as one line).
The falsely underlined words, might be caused by not having a dictionary selected. This is how I fixed it.
Click Settings->Editor->Spell Checker(on left of dialog) then under Language select a dictionary in the drop down.
