Google Cloud VM metadata-based keys ssh: handshake failed unable to authenticate and oslogin_cache_refresh: Failure getting groups, quitting

When trying to SSH to GCE VMs using metadata-based SSH keys I get the following error:
ssh: handshake failed: ssh: unable to authenticate, attempted methods [none publickey], no supported methods remain
While troubleshooting I can see the keys in the instance metadata, but they are not being added to the user's authorized_keys file:
$ curl -H "Metadata-Flavor: Google" "http://metadata.google.internal/computeMetadata/v1/instance/attributes/ssh-keys"

I also see the following errors in the ssh server auth log and Google Guest Environment services:

Currently the latest cloud-init and guest-oslogin packages for Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS (focal) seem to have an issue that causes google-guest-agent.service to exit before completing its task. The issue was fixed and committed but not yet released for focal (and likely other Ubuntu versions).
For now you can try disabling OS Login by setting instance or project metadata enable-oslogin=FALSE. After which you should see the expected results and be able to SSH using those keys:
$ sudo journalctl -u google-guest-agent.service

The admin user however will not work, since it conflicts with an existing linux group. You should pick a username that does not conflict with any of the name:x:123: names listed at getent group

Write up of the comments for anyone else looking for help diagnosing EC2 Agent Plugin issue.
When you have configured your agents go to the Nodes page (Jenkins URL/computer)
Hit the button to Provision a new agent from your cloud
If there is a configuration issue you will get Evil Jenkins and a Logging ID
Go to Jenkins logs page (Jenkins URL/log/all) and search that ID
This should give you the stack trace from the AWS SDK call which will help you to narrow down whether is it missing config or IAM permissions etc at fault
If there were no config errors you would get taken to the node that is being launched config page where you would be able to see its EC2 startup log to check for any User Data or AMI issues.
For this particular issue 'Value () for parameter groupId is invalid' the plugin is expecting you to provide a list or at least one subnet-id in configuration.
I faced the same issue and was resolved with this.

Issue Running Google Lighthouse in Docker Container

I'm attempting to run lighthouse in a Docker container for eventual deployment to AWS Lambda (using its new docker image lambda deployments). However I'm getting an error that I can't seem to understand.
The following is my dockerfile
FROM amazon/aws-lambda-nodejs:12
ENV AWS_LAMBDA_FUNCTION_MEMORY_SIZE=10240
RUN curl https://intoli.com/install-google-chrome.sh | bash
copy package.json .
RUN npm install
COPY app.js .
CMD ["app.handler"]
The following is my app.js
const chromeLauncher = require("chrome-launcher");
const lighthouse = require("lighthouse");
exports.handler = async (event) => {
const chrome = await chromeLauncher.launch({
logLevel: "info",
chromeFlags: [
"--headless",
"--no-sandbox",
"--disable-gpu",
"--disable-dev-shm-usage",
"--single-process",
],
});
const results = await lighthouse("https://example.com", {
port: chrome.port,
disableStorageReset: true,
onlyCategories: ["performance"],
logLevel: "info",
});
return {
statusCode: 200,
results,
};
};
and the following is the log output. It seems to be able to connect to lighthouse but then is hanging on the first command it sends/

It looks like you might have an error in your configuration.
Could not connect to the endpoint URL: "https://elasticbeanstalk./#{US East}.amazonaws.com"
There's an unreplaced variable (#{US EAST}) in the endpoint URL. Do you have a variable named "US East" defined? If so, it could be an escaping iss as there's a / before the variable syntax.

I am personally had an issue with UNIQUE_ID where used underscore. that does not conform with name restrictions.
PS: I know it is probably to late to answer but somebody else could have the same issue.
