Chartjs hide data point labels - chart.js

I created graph using chartjs. It works fine, only issue is it shows data labels (numbers) on each point. I want to hide them, but cannot find how. Can anyone help me solve this issue ? I tried setting pointRadius = 0, but it did not do what I want.
Also if I can not hide them is there a way I can change their color ?

I had the same issue and came across this post. I'm guessing you have datalabels plugin installed (I did). Add this to your chart options:
plugins: {
datalabels: {
display: false,
},
}
Hope this helps

Display Datalabel for an specific point in Chart Js

I'm trying to build a chart.js Line and with scatter points and I would like to have the datalabel to show just on the scatter points, I've tried to do it with datalabels plugin from chart js but it shows the datalabel for all datasets including the line, How can I show just the specific scatter points? this is what the code looks like:
Chart.register(ChartDataLabels);
fetch('https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ConeDigital/assets/main/data.json')
.then(response => response.json())
.then(data => {
var ctx = document.getElementById('myChart2').getContext('2d'),
chart = new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'line',
data: getChartData(data),
options: {
legend: {
display: false
},

datalabels: { // This code is used to display data values
anchor: 'end',
align: 'top',

}
}
},

mode: 'index',
intersect: false,
callbacks: {
label: function (tooltipItem, data) {
return data.datasets[tooltipItem.datasetIndex].label + ': ' + tooltipItem.yLabel+"%";
},
labelColor: function (tooltipItem, chart) {
let border = ''
let background = ''
let colors
if ( tooltipItem.datasetIndex === 1 ) {
colors = {
borderColor: '#fff',
backgroundColor: '#001F5B'
}
} else {

Right now it shows all the datalabels from all the datasets and it looks messed up,
Thanks in advance
You could add the datalabels config to the line datasets, disabling the plugin, as the following:
var omx_dataset = {
label: 'OMXS30',
borderColor: '#eb8484',
fill: false,
pointRadius: 0,
borderWidth: 1,
data: []
datalabels: {
display: false
}
};
var gadd_dataset = {
label: "GADD SMP SEK",
borderColor: '#001F5B',
fill: false,
pointRadius: 0,
borderWidth: 1,
data: [],
datalabels: {
display: false
}
};

Custom scatter chart extended from scatter chart becomes line chart

I'm unable to find an explanation so as why my customized scatter charts display a line chart instead.
I've created this custom chart by extending it from scatter using the basic :
Chart.defaults.scatterCustom = Chart.defaults.scatter;
Chart.controllers.scatterCustom = Chart.controllers.scatter.extend({ ...
Following is the entire code i'm using and a fiddle to illustrate my problem.
We can see the 3 differents charts, 2 are default scatter and one is customScatter.
The draw function was added later, thinking it would bring back the normal behaviour but it doesn't change anything.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Chart.defaults.scatterCustom = Chart.defaults.scatter;

Remove excess lines on y axis using chartjs

I wonder how to remove the excess lines on the line chart. I tried to set drawborder to false but of course it just remove the all lines to the axis. I just wanted get rid of the unwanted vertical lines that points to the y axis labels like the image below with red mark.
Template:
<d-chartrecord
:chart-data="datacollection"
v-bind:options="options"
:height="200"
></d-chartrecord>
Script:
export default {
data () {
return {
datacollection: {},
options: {
responsive: true,
legend: {
display: false,
},
scales: {
xAxes: [{
gridLines: {
display: true,
color: '#D7D7D7'
},
ticks: {
fontSize: 8,
beginAtZero: true
},
gridLines: {
display: true,
}
}],
yAxes: [{
display: true,
ticks: {
fontSize: 8,
beginAtZero: true,
stepSize: 50,
maxTicksLimit: 3
}
}],
}
},
}
},
mounted () {
this.putData()
},
methods: {
putData () {
this.datacollection = {
labels: ['JAN', 'FEB', 'MAR', 'APR', 'MAY', 'JUN', 'JUL', 'AUG', 'SEP', 'OCT', 'NOV', 'DEC'],
datasets: [{
lineTension: 0,
radius: 4,
borderWidth: 1,
borderColor: '#F2A727',
pointBackgroundColor:[ '#fff', '#fff', '#fff', '#fff', '#fff', '#F2A727'],
backgroundColor: 'transparent',
data: [this.getRandomInt(), this.getRandomInt(), this.getRandomInt(), this.getRandomInt(), this.getRandomInt(), this.getRandomInt()]
}]
}
},
getRandomInt () {
return Math.floor(Math.random() * (95)) + 5
}
}
}
In chart.js, gridLines provides an option tickMarkLength to disable the length beyond the axes, Eg:
yAxes: [{
gridLines: {
tickMarkLength: 0,
},
}]
xAxes: [{
gridLines: {
tickMarkLength: 0,
},
}]
Unfortunately, there isn't any native functionality for this in ChartJS at the moment. You would rather need to create a chart plugin to achieve that.
ᴘʟᴜɢɪɴ (ᴅʀᴀᴡ x-ᴀxɪꜱ ɢʀɪᴅ-ʟɪɴᴇꜱ)

Chart.plugins.register({
beforeDraw: function(chart) {
var ctx = chart.chart.ctx,
x_axis = chart.scales['x-axis-0'],
topY = chart.scales['y-axis-0'].top,
bottomY = chart.scales['y-axis-0'].bottom;
x_axis.options.gridLines.display = false;
x_axis.ticks.forEach(function(label, index) {
if (index === 0) return;
var x = x_axis.getPixelForValue(label);
ctx.save();
ctx.beginPath();
ctx.strokeStyle = x_axis.options.gridLines.color;
ctx.moveTo(x, topY);
ctx.lineTo(x, bottomY);
ctx.stroke();
ctx.restore();
});
}
});
* place this at the top of your script
ᴡᴏʀᴋɪɴɢ ᴇxᴀᴍᴘʟᴇ ⧩
Chart.plugins.register({
beforeDraw: function(chart) {
var ctx = chart.chart.ctx,
x_axis = chart.scales['x-axis-0'],
topY = chart.scales['y-axis-0'].top,
bottomY = chart.scales['y-axis-0'].bottom;
x_axis.options.gridLines.display = false; // hide original grid-lines
// loop through x-axis ticks
x_axis.ticks.forEach(function(label, index) {
if (index === 0) return;
var x = x_axis.getPixelForValue(label);
ctx.save();
ctx.beginPath();
ctx.strokeStyle = x_axis.options.gridLines.color;
ctx.moveTo(x, topY);
ctx.lineTo(x, bottomY);
ctx.stroke();
ctx.restore();
});
}
});
var chart = new Chart(ctx, {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: ['Jan', 'Feb', 'Mar', 'Apr', 'May'],
datasets: [{
label: 'LINE',
data: [3, 1, 4, 2, 5],
backgroundColor: 'rgba(0, 119, 290, 0.2)',
borderColor: 'rgba(0, 119, 290, 0.6)',
fill: false,
tension: 0
}]
},
options: {
scales: {
yAxes: [{
ticks: {
beginAtZero: true,
stepSize: 1
},
gridLines: {

}
}]
}
}
});
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/2.6.0/Chart.min.js"></script>
<canvas id="ctx"></canvas>
in Chart.js (I'm using version 2.9), gridLines also provides an option to disable the tick mark : drawTicks.
scales: {
xAxes: [{
gridLines:{
drawTicks: false
}
}]
}

Draw two plots using chartjs over one another with transparency

In Chartjs I have two plots, as shown here:
var config = {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: [
"2017-07-03T01:05:00+0100",
....
],
datasets: [
{
label: "Consumption",
fill: 'origin',
pointRadius: 0,
borderColor: "#0000ff",
backgroundColor: "rgba(255,10,13,255)",
data: [
0.015625,
0.0199861111111,
...
],
}
,
{
fill: 'origin',
label: "PV",
pointRadius: 0,
borderColor: "#ebf909",
backgroundColor: "rgba(29,241,13,210)",
data: [
0.0,
.....
],
}
]
},
options: {
responsive: true,
title:{
display:true,
text:"Chart.js Line Chart - Stacked Area"
},
tooltips: {
mode: 'index',
},
hover: {
mode: 'index'
},
scales: {
xAxes: [{
scaleLabel: {
display: true,
labelString: 'Time'
}
}],
yAxes: [{
stacked: false,
scaleLabel: {
display: true,
labelString: 'kWh'
}
}]
}
}
};
var ctx = document.getElementById("canvas").getContext("2d");
var myChart = new Chart(ctx, config);
Is there any way I can make the green plot show through the red one in places where the latter completely obscures the former?
You need to set fill property to false for the first dataset (the red one), to make it transparent.
datasets: [{
label: "Consumption",
fill: false,
pointRadius: 0,
borderColor: "#0000ff",
backgroundColor: "rgba(255,10,13,255)",
...
or, you can also reduce the opacity of background color, like so ...
backgroundColor: "rgba(255, 10, 13, 0.1)"
Here is the working codepen

Chartjs change grid line color

First I don't know what's it called. But how do you change its color from gray to white? Or is it even possibe?
It is possible to either remove the grid lines or have them display in a different color.
In both options.scales.xAxes and options.scales.yAxes you can add
gridLines: {
display: false ,
color: "#FFFFFF"
},
(obviously you do not need to assign a colour if you are not disaplying them)
var chartColors = {
red: 'rgb(255, 99, 132)',
orange: 'rgb(255, 159, 64)',
yellow: 'rgb(255, 205, 86)',
green: 'rgb(75, 192, 192)',
blue: 'rgb(54, 162, 235)',
purple: 'rgb(153, 102, 255)',
grey: 'rgb(231,233,237)'
};
var randomScalingFactor = function() {
return (Math.random() > 0.5 ? 1.0 : -1.0) * Math.round(Math.random() * 100);
}
var MONTHS = ["January", "February", "March", "April", "May", "June", "July", "August", "September", "October", "November", "December"];
var config = {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: ["January", "February", "March", "April", "May", "June", "July"],
datasets: [{
label: "My First dataset",
backgroundColor: chartColors.red,
borderColor: chartColors.red,
data: [
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor()
],
fill: false,
}, {
label: "My Second dataset",
fill: false,
backgroundColor: chartColors.blue,
borderColor: chartColors.blue,
data: [
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor(),
randomScalingFactor()
],
}]
},
options: {
responsive: true,
title: {
display: true,
text: 'Chart.js Line Chart'
},
tooltips: {
mode: 'label',
},
hover: {
mode: 'nearest',
intersect: true
},
scales: {
xAxes: [{
display: true,
gridLines: {
display: false
},
scaleLabel: {
display: true,
labelString: 'Month'
}
}],
yAxes: [{
display: true,
gridLines: {
display: false
},
scaleLabel: {
display: true,
labelString: 'Value'
}
}]
}
}
};
var ctx = document.getElementById("canvas").getContext("2d");
window.myLine = new Chart(ctx, config);
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/2.2.1/Chart.js"></script>
<div style="width:100%;">
<canvas id="canvas"></canvas>
</div>
Since v3 the scales have been changed so if you want your gridlines to have a different color you will need to configure it in options.scales[scaleID].grid.color:
var options = {
type: 'line',
data: {
labels: ["Red", "Blue", "Yellow", "Green", "Purple", "Orange"],
datasets: [{
label: '# of Votes',
data: [12, 19, 3, 5, 2, 3],
borderColor: 'pink'
},
{
label: '# of Points',
data: [7, 11, 5, 8, 3, 7],
borderColor: 'orange'
}
]
},
options: {
scales: {
y: {
grid: {
color: 'white'
}
},
x: {
grid: {
color: 'red'
}
}
}
}
}
var ctx = document.getElementById('chartJSContainer').getContext('2d');
new Chart(ctx, options);
<body>
<canvas id="chartJSContainer" width="600" height="400"></canvas>
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Chart.js/3.6.0/chart.js"></script>
</body>
Try this:
options: {
scales: {
x: {
display: true,
grid: {
display: false
},
},
y: {
display: true,
grid: {
display: false
},
}
}
}
