I have several Dialog in my program that tells the users various things, from errors, to confirmation.
The sample in the documentation tells me to use this to have an icon set depending on the dialog (warning, information, question mark...):

However, I do not get any icon in the dialog, I am only able to change the icon in the top bar, using this :

dialog.set_icon_name("dialog-error");
dialog.run();
I get no error, no warning, this compile and execute just fine, but the resulting message box doesn't have any icon in it. How can I get an icon to display properly INSIDE my dialog box ? I also tried the other MESSAGE_* available, without success.
According to the Gtk3 documentation one should use GtkDialog to create dialogs with images.
You may use set_image but it is deprecated since 3.12.
More concrete:
void Gtk::MessageDialog::set_image(Widget& image)
Sets the dialog’s image to image.

For my Qt Dialog Window, I am trying to create a checkbox that is centered, but is always checked and uncheckable.
I did this by combining
ui->baseBox->setStyleSheet("margin-left:50%; margin-right:50%;");
and
ui->baseBox->setAttribute(Qt::WA_TransparentForMouseEvents);
ui->baseBox->setFocusPolicy(Qt::NoFocus);
However, I can only do the first bit of code or the second. When I run the both of them together, my checkBox baseBox completely disappears from the GUI.
So I tried doing :
ui->baseBox->setAttribute(Qt::WA_TransparentForMouseEvents);
ui->baseBox->setFocusPolicy(Qt::NoFocus);
ui->baseBox->setStyleSheet(ui->baseBox->styleSheet().append(QString("margin-left:50%; margin-right:50%;")));

However, I am running into the same problem.
How can I do both of these things ? Why is my check box disappearing ?
I have a design like below:
So basically, I want to embed three dialogs in the application main dialog and switch between them, for each button click i.e., button 1 will show dialog one , button 2 will hide dialog 1 and show dialog 2 .. and so on.
Each dialog will be having a different design and functions.
I tried using CPropertySheet class to Add pages but its GUI is different. It has either option for navigating the dialogs using next / back button , or from a tab control.
None of which is as per my requirement.
So I want to know is it possible to have a design like this in MFC ? If yes how? Which Class/ control should I use.

What you can do is use a normal CDialog class, add your buttons to it and also create a frame/rect as a placeholder for where your embedded dialogs are to appear. The following piece of code will create and position your embedded dialog.

On button clicks, you hide the previously shown dialog (SW_HIDE) and show your selected dialog(SW_SHOW) with ShowWindow(...).
If you create your embedded dialogs with IDD_FORMVIEW style in the add resource editor it'll have the proper styles for embedding.
Another option is probably to use an embedded PropertySheet and hide the tab row and programatically change the tabs on the button clicks. I just find it to be too much fuzz with borders, positioning, validation and such for my liking.
If you have the MFC Feature Pack, that first came with VS2008 SP1 and is in all later versions, you might like to consider CMFCPropertySheet. There are a number of examples on the linked page, that are very similar to your design.

What worked for me just using dialog based application is SetParent() method. Dont know why nobody mentioned it. It seems to work fine.
I am doing like below:

I was trying to find an example of creating a settings/configuration windows. The settings window is launched by clicking "Options" action in the menu item. I wanted to figure out how to open up a 2nd window from the main window. As well how the new window return the settings information back to main window. Tried to play around with the QDialog or some inherited dialog classes, but those are for limited uses, not for general setting window. Is there any example/documentation about this?

I have a C++ MFC MDI application. I have a tool bar with some buttons on it. I need to add some check boxes to this toolbar and i need them to have custom bitmaps just as my buttons do. Thanks

By bitmpas i refer to the pixel images that can be created using the tool bar editor in visual stuidos 2008. I would like a picture (of my creation) instead of the usual tick box.
You don't use checkboxes on toolbars.
You should rather use regular buttons in Check mode. That means that the button stays pressed when user releases it. Clicking it a second time releases the button. This is the same behaviour as a checkbox.
You can either set a toolbar button as checkable by code:
m_ToolBar.SetButtonStyle(nButtonId, TBBS_CHECKBOX);
Or by enabling the corresponding property in the resource editor.
If you want to modify the image displayed when the button is pressed, in your ON_UPDATE_COMMAND_UI handler, use m_ToolBar.GetButtonInfo() to check if the image matches the state. If not, change it using m_ToolBar.SetButtonInfo() and specify the index of an extra image added to the image list of the toolbar.

In C++, is there anyway to let the user chose the icon of the app? For example, Winamp lets you select which icon you wish to use from a list of icons in it's preferences. How is it done?
There is the icon that you see in explorer. This is a resource in your executable. You could change that, but I wouldn't advise you too. Virus scanners can get nervous if executables are modified, and in Windows Vista you will not even be allowed to write in the Program Files folder.
But the icon that is displayed on the task bar or in the system tray can be changed. This is actually the icon of your application window and it can be set by sending a WM_SETICON message.
And there are shortcuts. They can be changed too, and in a shortcut you can specify which icon should be used.
I found a discussion on changing icons that has information about the first two options.
For Visual Studio 2010 in an MFC dialog based app
A. In the resource view, rightclick Icon folder and add icon. Give it an ID like IDI_MYICON. Leave it as is or draw something nice.
B. Go to OnInitDialog. Add the following two lines of code:
HICON hMyIcon = LoadIcon( AfxGetInstanceHandle(), MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_MYICON) );
SetIcon( hMyIcon, FALSE ); // FALSE == use as small icon

This sets the icon as icon for the sysmenu (topleft) and in the taskbar. This is however not automatically reflected in all situations. E.g. for a systray icon you need to explicitly specify the icon again in the call to Shell_NotifyIcon().
