I have built a python parser that lets the user enter certain search parameters and then searches through a set of syslogs looking for specific information. When there is a match it writes the lines to a separate text document so that the user can review/save the output. All works great, but as of now its all done via CLI on a local PC.
The next step in my project I want to be able to host a web server whereby users can upload their syslogs from their PC to a front end website, and have my python parser do a search based on their search parameters and then print the result to the webpage. Is this possible? I have been playing with DJANGO a bit, but its becoming clear that this might not be the best route to go.
I was thinking maybe using the Python HTTP simple server as an alternative?
Django vs Simple python HTTP doesn't matter, to run a command line program from the python interpreter is simple just use
import os
os.system("curl X")
To run the python script just move the script to where your HTTP stuff is, and import it
from SCRIPT import FUNCTION
FUNCTION()

I have built a platform on django for running python scripts. The user is able to write their Python script in a text-area and when a button is clicked, the script should run on the back-end. It should also check for test cases from a database (like Hackerrank).
I have tried using the eval() function but the problem is that when the user writes input() in their code it should take the values from database for input.
Please help me figure this out.
My little podcast backend written in Django contains a ShowModel. I have also written a custom management command to update episodes for each show from an external API.
For ease of use I'd now like to put a button next to the list of shows in the Django admin to be able to update them from there. I know there's call_command() that also takes the argument but I'm getting a bit stuck in how to bring this into the admin area where the shows are already. Also, if possible I'd also pass the output to the web admin.

It is my first time trying to get a Django application live on the net but I am having an issue with the URls.
The working local URL of my application is
http://localhost:8000/surveythree/ - This works as expected.
However when I upload my project to my hosting account I cant seem to locate the relevant page using the shortened URL as provided by the URLconf, in this case it should be /surveythree/

I can locate the page if I use the full filepath however.

I thought the benefit of the URLconf was to shorten the URL to something like one of the following
http://www.mywebsite.com/bias_experiment/surveythree/
http://www.mywebsite.com/bias_experiment/src/surveythree/
http://www.mywebsite.com/bias_experiment/src/survey/surveythree/
Is there something simple that I am missing here? If anyone could tell me what the shortened URL should be based on the above it would be great. I have been trying multiple combinations for a while now but I don't know if I am going around in circles or doing it wrong.

It doesn't look like you have actually deployed your site with a proper server. You can't just upload the files to any webserver and expect then to run: you need to configure a wsgi server and connect it to your app.
The documentation is here but to be honest I'd be amazed if your college server supported it at all, if all you have is a shared folder. You may be able to get it to work with FastCGI, but I wouldn't hold out a whole lot of hope.
(And even though you say that going to that long URL "works", I'd guarantee that all you're seeing is the raw HTML template. There's no way that any actual dynamic functionality will be working like that, as you'd see if you actually tried to submit the form at that URL.)
Deploying Django apps is much more complicated. To run in more "production" environment you will need to configure:
virtualenv to keep pip modules which your app required separate from global environment.
nginx for hosting static files ( you can copy them to some folder with ./manage.py collectstatic.
WSGI server: uWSGI or Gunicorn are both nice choices.
supervisor: for running and restarting WSGI and any other apps (for example celery) running in background
It's a lot for a start, so it's good to follow some tutorial and use ready to use config snippets.
I am working on a project which periodically downloads stock details as a json file from a web server and save locally for user requestes .Since it is not appropriate to download the same for each user request i need help in doing that

I'm not sure where to begin, as in do I start working towards PHP, Ruby or what, but here is what I'd like to do:
I have a Python script that takes a pre-formatted Excel document and using xlrd and Django, I output a nicely formatted HTML page, based on a template HTML page.
But currently on my team, I'm the only one that can use this Python script because our setups, and I'd like to simplify the process by creating a web app that has a couple drop down menus to specify which script to run, then let me upload the .xls file, at which point the HTML file is automatically generated and a download link is created or the HTML file is spit out somehow.
Does anyone have any guidance as to how I should even begin this project?
I would suggest having a good read of the django docs, and probably working through the tutorials.

If you just want to hack at the code you've got then probably read the following to get a very basic overview of some core django functionality -

With your app, the url dispatcher will pass the request to a view which will use a template to render your excel document.
You want a form to handle your user parameters and a single view to render and process the form and also render the excel template.
