Request a webservice behind a proxy on QT - c++

Im trying to publish an application paper. My software is written in C++/QT and it usually calls some webservices by QNetworkRequest. One reviewer made the following comments:
"Could not fetch alignments behind a proxy server. Add option to set a
proxy for connecting to internet."
"When there is an institutional proxy, the application cannot connect
to internet. This is very common in many institutions. The application
should provide a way to set a proxy. I was unable to test the tasks
that require internet in Linux due to this problem."
I have no idea of what can I do to fix it, since I haven't access to any proxy server.

You can make a VM of any Linux and set up something like Squid proxy fairly easily. I do this at work so that I can authenticate with the corporate proxy via my Squid instance. This lets me route non-domain Windows and Linux VMs through it for updates.
Squid may emulate several of the proxy types supported by QNetworkProxy. Then you give the user of your program the option of supplying proxy configuration information that you pass to void QNetworkAccessManager::setProxy(const QNetworkProxy &proxy), which will route the request through the proxy.
You could also code the proxy usage into the code and ask the user to try it out until it works

Webservice Proxy from Adobe Flex

I am creating one Flex application which needs to show results from a webservice, hosted in our network itself. It's an internal application, but due to the strict secured environment, we need to open firewall to access other hosts or services.
For my application, I had opened the firewall from my server. But since Flex calls the webservice from the client, its impractical to open the firewall from all the clients.
I found we can use the proxy service of BlazeDS. I tried that also but didnt succeed. I did a vast search over the internet also, but failed on getting the detailed working way of the proxy service of BlazeDS. Do anyone know how this proxy works? Even we are calling the destination of the BlazeDS, will at any time Flex calls the WSDL url directly from the client?

Define Outgoing/Calling Port for SOAP Web Service in Visual Studio 2010

The application application I'm currently working on is required to interface with a web service using SOAP. The service providers want to restrict access to the service via a firewall using BOTH an IP address and a Port. I'm using VS 2010 and the service has been added as a .NET 2.0 Web Service.
Right now the firewall rule for my connection's port is set to 'ANY' and the service team wants to tighten it down to a specific port. I can't seem to find any way to set a specific outgoing port (port used when exiting my web server) in my service.
Is it even possible to do this?
It is possible to do this, but it's a non-trivial customization.

By overriding the GetWebRequest method, you can gain access to the HttpWebRequest instance being used by the request.
HttpWebRequest has a ServicePoint property.
ServicePoint has a BindIPEndPointDelegate property.
Set this property to point to a method that will decide which IP address and port to use.

Testing a remote web service with soapUI

I have a Javax web service deployed in a remote Linux machine within a JBoss ESB container. I am able to test the web service using soapUI on the same machine as where the service is deployed. The WDSL URI I used was something like http://127.0.0.1:8080/abcd/abcd?wsdl.
What I would like to do is to be able to test the same service from another machine using soapUI. I tried replacing 127.0.0.1 with the IP address of the machine where the service is deployed. This does not seem to work. Can someone tell me what I am missing here?

a sum of things could go wrong there - as already mentioned by the others the firewall is blocking access for the given (address, port) pair. Another thing that happened to me was that the WSDL was generated using the name of the machine it was deployed on and whenever I was trying to call the service from a different machine it was complaining that I cannot find the given machine.
You need to test network connectively. One tool you can use is plain old telnet. If you telnet to the ip/port combo of the web server, you will get a response (an HTTP error). For example:
$ telnet 192.168.0.10 8080
If you get nothing then there is almost certainly a firewall blocking access.
If you are convinced that no firewall is blocking you, the other possibility is that the web server is only bound to the local network adapter (127.0.0.1) and not the other network adapters (ethernet/wifi). This is very unlikely however.

Non-Transparent Proxy Caching of SSL

I asked the question before but didn't phrase it quite right. I'm using RESTful principles to build a secure web-app that uses both transport authentication/encryption and message level security.
The message level security is essentially client-independent (still encrypted though), and hence this allows the individual messages to be cached, or stored on an intermediary server without significant risk of exposing private data.
Transport level security is needed to authenticate both end-points using TLS client-authentication. The situation is analogous to having a central mainframe where messages originate, and caches at each branch where the clients are located. I want the client->cache and cache->mainframe connections to be secured using TLS and the individual X509 Certificates. Hence, the client will know it is talking to a proxy, and the mainframe will know it is talking to the proxy and not directly to the client.
Is there some way of doing this using HTTP standards, and not through some hack?
Essentially, I want the client to try and access the mainframe URI, to know it has to go through the proxy, and use TLS with the proxy (with the proxy having its own certificate), and then for the proxy to proceed to connect to the mainframe (with each having their own certificate) on behalf of the client. The proxy can cache the data the mainframe returns, and use that instead of having to connect to the mainframe each time.
Does anybody know proxy/caching software or a method that will allow this?
Would this get more responses on serverfault.com as it's essentially a server software/config question rather than a programming problem per se?
Basically, it sounds like you want a standard SSL reverse proxy with caching. You could do this without writing any code with Apache + mod_cache, configured as a reverse proxy.
The kicker is the message security. It'd only work if your requests are 100% cacheable based only on path/querystring, and if they were "unique by client" (eg, a client ID in the QS or something). Something tells me that one or both of these are not true. This would be pretty trivial to build in ASP.NET, or by extending mod_cache (basically just standard response caching, bucketed by the client cert thumbprint).

BizTalk web-service call: unable to connect to remote server

I am trying to call a web service from a BizTalk (2006) orchestration.
Having got the hang of the basics, I have been following this tutorial (page 74 onwards) in which i have a web reference to an external web service (I am using this web service instead of the one in the tutorial), I have my web message in a Send component, and have set up the request / response ports for the web service call.
I'm fairly sure that eveything is set up correctly, but my orchestration fails to call the web service with the following error:
The adapter failed to transmit the message going to send port
"My_Order_Processor.Orchestration-CurrencyConvertPort-36c122f41c5596ae"
with URL "http://www.webservicex/net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx.
WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server.
SocketException: An existing connection was forcibly
closed by the remote host 209.162.186.60:80
The IP 209.162.186.60 is the address for the web service I am trying to connect to. I am trying to narrow down the reasons for the error, e.g.:
Firewall issues
Proxy server issues (I don't know how to configure BizTalk to use a proxy server)
Something else
The BizTalk server can ping the web service, I can access the internet (through IE), I can add the WebReference to the project successfully (meaning at least the orchestration designer can access the web service okay). I have also tried a different web service, with the same result.
Any ideas on finding out why this is happening or how to find out more info? (I'm new to BizTalk)
I've seen this veru vague error before for many different reasons. Two suggestions.
Download something like NetMon and watch what is going on on the wire.
Turn off chunked encoding. For some reason, many web services don't handle this well.
Let us know what you find out.
Could this not be an authentication issue? Check that you can connect to the webservice using the Bts credentials.
This turned out to be a proxy issue.
By navigating to Biz Talk Group -> Platform Settings -> Adapters -> SOAP, I was able to configure the BizTalk server host's SOAP adapter (which is what the web service call uses to make the call) to use our company proxy server correctly. Double click the 'send' SOAP adapter, go to Properties under adapter name.
