I have a problem where Visual Studio will not create a new C++ Console Application project. I can input the project name and location, but when I hit the create button it simply closes the project creator window and reopens it without creating anything. It will do this with both types of the standard C++ Win32 project templates. Everything else works and will load without this error, but for whatever reason Visual Studio will not create Win32 C++ project types. I have previously been able to create such projects in the past; the problem I am encountering is recent.
My version of Windows 10 has recently been updated to the most recent version, but I do not think this will have effected the program. I have tried to run the repair tool included with Visual Studio and running it as an administrator, but nothing has helped. Can you please tell me why Visual Studio might be refusing to create Win32 Projects and how to fix it?
Fixed it. I completely uninstalled Visual Studio and it worked fine after that. Rebooting didn't help; the reinstall did the trick.

I installed Visual Studio 2017 recently. Today, when I tried to create a new C++ Win32 Console Application project, it shows me the New Project wizard again and again. It also displays the following error.

I don't know whether this is a pre-existing problem when I installed Visual Studio , because this is the first time that I attempted to create a C++ console app.
I wanted to reinstall Visual Studio, but unfortunately my DVD is broken. So I need to find another solution.

I am unable to create a VC++ project in VS2015 Community. When I attempt to do so, I get two messages starting with, 'The "Visual Studio C++ Project System Package" did not load correctly.' Then this fatal message appears:
I also have VS2005 Professional installed on my machine; I need the two for different projects.
This seemed similar to not able to create VC++ project, with VS11 so I created a batch file that sets those env vars and then calls devenv.exe for VS2015. Still got the same error messages.
Visual Studio 2015 (community)- cannot create new project c++ suggests an incompatibility between two versions and to delete an old directory. But as I need both versions, that does not seem to be a good solution either (and suggestion didn't appear to help that OP).
As final data points, Intel Visual Fortran 2017 is installed and integrated with VS2015, and I note that a resulting VFPROJ file is in the pre-VS2010 format - .vcproj format with <VisualStudioProject> being an element.
At any rate, I cannot create a new project inside VS2015 for C++ and would appreciate your help towards a solution.
I chose Repair for on VS2015 under Control Panel - Programs and Features and I am now able to create a C++ project. I will continue testing by creating a nother Fortran project and if it causes the problem to recur I will repost.
I don't know what really happend, but I got following situation: When I create a UE4 project (C++) it compiles the project and opens Visual Studio in the project directory, like it should. Now when I add a new C++ through Unreal's Editor, it opens Visual Studio another time and says "Loading Visual Studio..." until it says "Failed to load Visual Studio". The new Visual Studio window says it could not use IntelliSense because my first instance of VS is using the generated IntelliSense file. Because the the VS windows are colliding, none of these opened my Pawn Class... so I have to do this manually everytime.

I have installed Unreal Engine 4.13 and Visual Studio Community 2013 now 2015.
I'm trying to make a C++ project using Unreal Engine (using blueprints is out of question so this didn't help)
Now, when I make a basic C++ project, Visual Studio shows the following error message:

This version of Visual Studio is unable to open the following projects. The project types may not be installed or this version of Visual Studio may not support them.

Then my browser opens showing a Migration Report telling me that VS had an error with Project.vcxproj and UE4.vcxproj, although it copes with Engine, Games and Project.sln.
After this VS does show up without any further action, and it does automatically open *.h and *.cpp files for newly added classes in UE4.
Though it does edit and save these, it claims that all UE's code is wrong (with squiggles), and for compiling UE4 gives errors on pieces of code that apparently don't give errors on other's machines.
It would be much appreciated to be helped out, and I'm sure it would help others too who would have the same problem.

Starting with both the Unreal Engine Editor and Visual Studio closed, right click your .uproject file and select Generate Visual Studio project files, and then launch visual studio from the .sln file.
Once Visual Studio is open check your Solution Configuration is set to Development Editor. Then go to Debug > Start without Debugging (or Ctrl-F5). If everything compiles and the Editor opens again then you're good to go.
I uninstalled VS2013, installed VS2015 with all additional options checked, made a blank, new project with Unreal with just VS2015 on my pc, and now everything works fine.
Perhaps my VS2013 installation was broken, deprecated or switching version wasn't a good idea, but I can work with VS in any case now.

Install newer version of the Visual Studio. VS2013 is not the latest one, VS2015 is. People report that even updating VS2013 from Update 2 to Update 4 helps resolving similar issues.
UPDATE1: I have reinstalled Visual Studio and I am still having this problem. My guess is there is a problem with my environment.

I attached windbg to devenv and set a breakpoint in windbg for msenv!_tailMerge_WINMM_dll and traced through.
This is trying to load winmm.dll using the LoadLibrary API. I can see that LoadLibrary is failing and GetLastError is returning 5 which is "access denied".
now, why would vs be denied access to winmm.dll?

I am currently having a serious issue with Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Intellisense in C++. I have an all native solution with on project. Whenever I, or the editor, attempt to invoke intellisense auto-complete pow, Visual Studio crashes. I even tried this with a brand new console app. Ctrl + Space in the empty main and Visual Studio crashes.
I googled for help on this but to no avail. I have tried deleting the ncb file but no luck on that front either.

I would try the following set of steps to try and fix the problem
Reset All Settings: Tools -> Import / Export Settings -> Reset All Settings
Delete HKCU:\Software\Micosoft\VisualStudio\9.0 and then restart VS
Repair the VS installation through Add Remove Programs
Disable all 3rd party plugins
Did you try repairing the Visual C++ installation?
Do you have any plugins installed? Try disabling them.
It might be worth it to delete the .ncb file in the project directory, in case it was corrupted (.ncb is the intellisense database file).
If you're doing C++ development for a living (or at least doing serious development), there's no reason not to use Visual Assist.
What a bizarre problem.

My sounds were somehow changed to windows default sounds after a recent trip to IT. This caused visual studio to play a clicking sound when intellisense happens. In order to play this sound winmm.dll must be loaded up, which is located c:\windows\system32\winmm.dll.
I suppose through debugging foray winmm.dll symbols were downloaded to a FOLDER called C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\winmm.dll. Of course this folder looked mighty tasty to Visual Studio, so when it tried to load the winmm.dll folder as a dll file POW!!!
I deleted the folder, and some other .dll folders :) and all is well.

Make sure you are up on your service packs, I think VS 2005 is at SP1.
Try "cleaning" the solution, i.e. delete (rename) all temporary files like *.ncb, *.suo etc that have been created by Visual Studio. One of these files might have got corrupted (Your problem sounds like the IntelliSense database is broken).
