Linking with a static library through CMake - c++

I am trying to use cmake to build my project. I want to link against libpng which is present in my system. This is my code:

My problem is that I want to link statically rather than dynamically. Furthermore, and although the variable set as PNG_LIBRARY is correctly set to /usr/local/lib/libpng.so, I get an error message when running my executable:
error while loading shared libraries: libpng16.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Cannot link sndfile library to cmake project (MacOS)

Currently I'm trying to make some spectogram generation for my uni project. I'm trying to build a static library where all the magic will work and just call it from the main() function.
This is my cmake file:

I have installed libsndfile via homebrew, but find_package() refuses to locate the lib and throws this error:

By not providing "FindSndFile.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has

CMake did not find one.

I`ve made some research and found out that libsndfile does not have any .cmake configs inside like other libs, that I can link easily (like OpenCV or spdlog). I would really appreciate any help to solve this horror.
With help of Tsyvarev, I figured out the solution. I used the pkg-config module and a custom cmake file, I found on the web. I will include my final cmake in case someone else will need it:

Runtime error when running libpng application

I am trying to compile openGL file including "png.h" header file,
I got the following error:

cmake . works fine, but when I execute ./teapot the above error occurred. Thanks for any help!
You've probably only have development libraries installed for libpng-1.4.12 and not for libpng-1.6.37 or some other "non-standard" installation.
But the message seems pretty clear you linked against an older version but have a newer version in the runtime path of loadable libraries.
find_package(PNG REQUIRED) is only going to search the "standard" locations via find_library().
You may also want to update your CMakeLists.txt file to use target_link_libraries( ... PNG::PNG). This is simpler than trying to use the PNG variables that get set; which is missing PNG_DEFINITIONS when compiling your project. Refer to the CMake manual buildsystem section about library targets.
You can inspect the variables by using the message() command to print out their values. Some of them will also be stored in CMakeCache.txt.
If libpng isn't in the standard locations then you have to use target_link_libraries( ... /path/to/lib) and target_include_directories( ... /path/to/lib/headers), etcetera to handle it.

How to "Link All" dynamic and/or static libraries, using a folder path and cmake?

In my test project I have a folder structure of the following
-Root/
-Lib_so/ //folder where it contains all of the .so file
-Lib_a/ //folder where it contains all of the .a file
-Lib_dll/ //folder where it contains all of the dll file
-Includes/ //folder where it contains all of the header files
-main.cpp
I want to write a CMakeLists.txt that generates a single executable that:
automatically link ALL of the .so , .a, and/or dll files just by the folder path shown above.
link installed binaries (such as the GLFW installed by brew on mac)

CMake user built libraries; cannot specify link libraries for target

I'm building a project in Cpp that will communicate with my Java apps via rabbitmq and post updates to twitter. I'm using a few libraries from github
rabbitmq-c
Rabbit installed to /usr/local/lib64
jansson - json library
I installed this a while back for another project, went to /usr/local/lib
twitcurl - C lib for Twitter API
Got installed to /usr/local/lib
If it matters, I'm using CLion as my IDE, which displays jansson and rabbit under auto-complete when defining includes - so that's picking the libs off my system somehow
e.g.

I link them using the target_link_libraries(name libs...) and I see output saying

What's confusing me is another project I have uses jansson by simply adding it here TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(${project_name} dlib jansson)

CMake variables are case sensitive, thus the variable ${project_name} results in an empty string. Use ${PROJECT_NAME} instead, i.e.:
target_link_libraries(${PROJECT_NAME} twitcurl jansson rabbitmq)
Running CMake with the flag --warn-uninitialized helps you detect mistakes like this.

Static linking DCMTK library

I use DCMTK in my application and for compilation use cmake file. cmake finds all libraries (at least headers, because in compiles source files to .o files) the only problem is that during linking it tries to find dynamic libraries for DCMTK. I compiled one as static, so I do not have .so files. As a result it gives me error :No rule to make target /usr/lib/libdcmdata.so, needed by dcm_seg. Stop.
I use Ubuntu 14.04 x64.
It confuses me pretty much. So, what's the problems?

Can you check the content of ${DCMTK_LIBRARIES} (it should be a list of paths to DCMTK static libraries) ?

Another hint: I noted in the past that find DCMTK from a build instead of an install not always works properly.
If you have trouble finding DCMTK with the script provided with CMake
(${DCMTK_LIBRARIES} doesn not content the path to you static DCMTK libs for example) you can try to use this alternative script
