Blank applet layout coming in Siebel before OpenUI rendering happens - siebel

We are using Siebel citizen portal application (IP 15.12). After login, we reach in to a landing page with 3 applets. These applets have some custom fields etc, but there is no UI customization we did (ie no PM/PR etc).
Now when we login, a blank layout of the applet appears for a few seconds (especially first load or after clearing cache) and then renders the original applet with Open UI layout. Since this is a customer facing application, our client has a lot of concern on appearing the blank layout before the actual rendered applet.
Could anyone throw some light here? Is this an Open UI behavior, if so is there any workaround for this?

With IP 15.18, We had similar issue of the list applets not loading data on initial (home page load) after login. Only the list applet titles were displayed but the form applet loaded elements, showing the busy cursor forever...
We were getting "Error downloading file define:siebel/htmltmplmgr" error in the browser console. we debugged and found that the localeobject.js was not loading, which is the dependency file mentioned in htmltmplmgr.js...So we added preload define parameter in the htmltmplmgr.js in the beginning to load the localeobject.js file before even the main function starts...then it started working...try this...

On first load or after clear cahce, it needs to load all JS files (vanilla) and other required files in Open UI. So, this is the default behavior of OpenUI.
Nothing much we can do with this. Else you can tweak down all unnecessary files from downloading.
I found this blog very useful, you can check.
http://www.askmesiebel.com/category/siebel-8-1-1-10-upgrade-issue/

edit the file htmltmplmgr.js in below folders
$SIEBEL_ROOT/siebsrvr/webmaster/siebel_build/scripts/siebel/
$SIEBEL_ROOT/SWEApp/public/enu/23048/scripts/siebel/
go to define section and add dependency files inside the square brackets
define("siebel/htmltmplmgr",[]
define("siebel/htmltmplmgr",["siebel/siebelconstants.js","siebel/localeobject.js"]
Note that you have to edit the files in both folders you can create a backup before making changes. If you just replace in public folder when you restart siebel server files will be overwritten from webmaster/siebel_build folder to public folder . Hence you have to replace in both folders and restart siebel server and web server.

Unable to delete SharePoint Master Page

SharePoint by default has two master pages: Seattle and Oslo. The general rule is we should not modify these default master pages. If we need any customization, we should make their copy, make modification, upload to the Master Page Gallery and then use it. However a colleague of mine modified them directly and it screwed up some JavaScript functions. It impacted Performance Point Dashboard Designer and continuously started showing JavaScript errors.
In order to resolve the issue, I renamed the default master pages to Seattle_erroneous.masterpage and Oslo_erroneous.masterpage. I also renamed their respective .html files. I copied fresh copies of Seattle.masterpage and Oslo.masterpage from another web application, also their .html files, uploaded them to the Master Page Gallery, published their major version and started them referencing in subsites. It did solve JavaScript errors.
Now I want to clean up those erroneous master pages. When I try to delete them from the gallery, I get following error.
All the subsites inherit the working master page. Also I checked master page of each site one by one. All of them were referencing the working version. There was one site whose SharePoint Server Publishing feature was not enabled. I enabled it, and confirmed it was using the working version. I cannot delete the erroneous masterpages. It is referencing somewhere where I cannot see. Please help.
You may try the solution shared by here.
My Issues with Test.html and Test.master
Go to Root Site, Site Settings->Look and Feel Section: Design
Manager. Here the Master Page Html file can be modified
what changes are we make in .master file.
But Site Settings->Look and Feel Section: Design Manager ->Edit
Master Pages Test.html was missing.(By default Seattle and Oslo will
be appear)
Open the site collection through SharePoint Designer, Right click on
Seattle.html file -> Select "Edit File in Advanced Mode" from
context menu.
Seattle.html opens in a new Tab. Select all and copy the code.
Then Go to Test.html (Right Click) -> "Edit File in Advanced Mode".
Opens in a new tab.
Replace the existing code in the "Test.html" by pasting the code
from Seattle.html
Save the file (This is done in "Check In" status)
In the Browser, Go
To Root Site, Site Settings -> Look and Feel: Design Manager ->
"Edit Master Pages" in the left side.
Now here the Test.html file will appear. Delete this file

Sitecore images in the Media Library are not displaying in Page Editor on CM instance, but appear in the Media Library and on CD instance

I have a bizarre issue with one of my Sitecore sites. Most (but not all) of the images in the Media Library are not displaying in Page Editor/CM. When I view my site in Page Editor or go to mysite.prod-cm.com, the images just show the broken image icon. If I try to go to the image directly, such as mysite.prod-cm.com/~/media/Upload/exampleImage.ashx it returns an error page. However, if I go to the same path on CD, mysite.com/~/media/Upload/exampleImage.ashx, the image displays. In Sitecore, in the master database, I see all my images, I am able to preview them and download them and there appears to be nothing wrong with the files.
I checked the logs to see if there were any useful clues about why the image paths are returning an error, and I see the following message
"WARN Protected page accessed with no current user".
Is this a security setting in Sitecore? This only started happening recently, is there a way to unprotect the Media Library? Like I said, some images still show up, but any new images I add appear broken. The only other message in my logs is
"WARN Memory usage exceeded the MemoryMonitor threshold".
To add on, I can view the images by the path with their item ID, such as mysite.prod-cm.com/~/media/C98B4DAC5FBD416CABF0070D087AE5E2.ashx. That works, but the path with the item name does not.

How to prevent React from caching other github project pages

I built a GitHub User Page (https://username.github.io) with create-react-app. And I also have a project page at https://username.github.io/myProject which is built using Vuejs. The create-react-app seems to have a built-in service worker that does the caching automatically, which is what I wanted, but it also make my https://username.github.io/myProject not showing the project page correctly but showing my https://username.github.io page instead. I tried to unregister and clear the storage but it's only work once, when I located to my User's page and then to my Project's page, the problem still coming again.
How do I keep the caching behavior, and make these two urls able to show properly?
When you register an SW at the root ("/") it automatically takes control of everything below it ("/myapp2"). This is bu design and there's no exclusion config available.
I think you have two options:
Move the React project out of the root to it's own sub dir and have the SE control only that
Write some logic in the SW itself that checks all fetches it's handling and does a no-op if the they match a dir you don't want to be handled by the SW

Embedding a functional website inside a Squarespace webpage

First of all, thank you for everything that you do. Without this community, I would hate web design and be reliant on my teacher's outdated, static methods. Much love <3
So, this is a tricky one (maybe).
I want to have, essentially, an iframe on a webpage that contains a website I coded previously. It was a project for school that never went live, but I'd like to include it as part of my portfolio. Problem is, an iframe needs a URL for a source, but I just have the folder with more folders full of code, fonts, and images. How can I tell the browser to populate this box with everything from "name" folder? And then how will it know to run the code instead of just showing a file tree or something?
In the end, I want a page describing a previous web project and let the client experience that project within the one page. And I don't want to get a domain for every project I do.
Maybe there's an easier way I'm not thinking of?
To make it interesting, my new portfolio site is being made in Squarespace...maybe. I bought a domain from them because I had a promo code and wanted to try the platform, but I kind of hate it. I can't change any of the code and it won't maintain a connection to Typekit. So all I can do is change the basic appearance of preexisting elements. It's like WordPress all over again....LAME! Sadly, I already bought the domain.
Can Squarespace just be a host? Is there a way to download the raw code of these templates, edit it, and upload it again?
Thanks for all your help!
I want to have, essentially, an iframe on a webpage that contains a
website I coded previously.
Squarespace's file upload mechanism is very limited. Without using the Developers Platform, there is no effective way to upload many files at once. Furthermore, there is no way to create folders. Therefore, even if you were willing to upload each .html file and each asset one-by-one, there'd be no way to organize the files into folders (assuming that the "tree" you mentioned includes additional sub-folders).
Initially, in order to get the files to be accessible by Squarespace, you'd have to do one of the following:
Use Squarespace Developers Platform (A.K.A. "Developer Mode") and upload your to-be-iframed
(TBI) website files to the "assets" folder using SFTP or Git.
Host your TBI website files somewhere else (a different host
environment, for example) which will maintain your file/folder
structure.
How can I tell the browser to populate this box with everything from
"name" folder? And then how will it know to run the code instead of
just showing a file tree or something?
Assuming that the TBI website has an index.html file or home.html file or similar, and assuming you were to use the Squarespace Developer Platform, you'd insert the iframe either in a Code Block or within a template/.region file directly using something like
<iframe src="/assets/tbiwebsitefolder/index.html"></iframe>
while setting your other iframe attributes (such as height and width) as needed.
Is there a way to download the raw code of these templates, edit it,
and upload it again?
Yes. You select a template and then enable Developer Mode on that template. From there, you use SFTP or Git to download the template files, edit, and reupload.
You may benefit by reviewing some considerations of enabling Developer Mode on a Squarespace Template.
One other idea, to avoid the iframe and Developer Mode entirely, would be to capture images of the TBI website rendered in a browser, and then simply add those images to a gallery block or gallery page. This could allow you to convey the general idea of the project but would of course not capture the full "experience" of it.

Sitecore menu items not working - javascript errors

So I'm just starting to work in sitecore and for some reason none of menu options are working in Page Editor mode for the site that I'm working on. We pretty much have the sitecore website and add some extra page content (MVC app files) to it. I'm getting a variety of javascript errors.
In content Editor, if I click the Sitecore logo and click on Properties I get
TypeError: contentIframe.dialog is not a function
In page editor if I click on the blue components button I get:
TypeError: i.widget is not a function
I'm guessing maybe it's a conflict between jquery that we're using for this website and whatever Sitecore is using. I think it's 7 - but I can't see it via the menu option :)
That guess could be wrong - it could in fact be a browser issue, but I've ensured Firefox is not blocking popups. It doesn't work in Firefox, IE or Chrome though.
The weird thing is that no one else on the project is having this issue it's only on my computer.
Edit - I've also just tried re-installing (7.2) without any local code changes I still can't click on a page and go to Presentation, Details (Layout) - I get a TypeError: contentIframe.dialog is not a function
Edit 2 - I've noticed that I can use sitecore in the QA environment and the dialogs work fine there. So it's something specific to my local build of the site we have (sitting on top of sitecore). But the dialogs just throw jquery errors when I do stuff locally. I was hoping it would be a browser setting but doesn't look like it.
Edit 3 - What I've tried this morning.
Same thing happens in all browsers (FF, IE, Chrome) and I’ve cleared
my browser cache I can access the QA site and the dialog appears as
expected
Copied across the QA site files, pointed my local Digital
site in IIS to the new folder – dialogs don’t work
Team member tried accessing the site from his machine (pointing to my IP address) and
dialogs work for him
I tried seeing if another local sitecore site dialogs were working – but the menu items for that are opening as new windows (so I’m guessing it’s a sitecore 7.2 feature that they appear as jquery dialogs??)
So after googling for rejected-by-urlscan it turns out there's a program called UrlScan from microsoft that was blocking my dialogs. Uninstalled that and I now have dialogs appearing for sitecore. Very exciting :)
I guess it is a problem with some browsers plugin. Sitecore is sensitive to scripts that are used(different versions of jquery or prototype.js). Plugins can inject scripts to HTML source of pages and it can cause errors.
Try to switch off all plugins at least at one browser and check the results.
