Regex Help: Adding directory path prefix to PDF file links - regex

I've got a project where a ton of PDF files were added right into the /public_html directory.
I've cleaned them up into a folder:
/public_html/external
Now, I've got links like this:
href = "/some-pdf-file.pdf"
I need to change them all using Regex (Joomla+ReReplacer) to:
href = "/external/some-pdf-file.pdf"
I'm willing to bet it's a simple one-line-regex command and I'm going to feel like an idiot once I see it.

Not 100% sure what the setup is, but here's a guess in JavaScript. Please adapt as needed.
source.replace(/(href\s+=\s+")([^"]*\.pdf)(")/, "$1/external$2$3");
Probably a bit overkill, but you get the idea.

Regex specific question and search function on my website dealing with broken links

I've been trying to figure out my regex pattern but it doesn't seem to be working for me.
Here's what i'm trying to do:
I have broken links on my website if someone accidentally gets to a page like so:
https://example.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=
or
https://example.com/catalogsearch/result/
So i'm redirecting them back to my homepage. The problem is now the search is just sending everything back to the homepage. So i'm assuming if there is something after the equals it needs to continue the search.. obviously
https://example.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=person
but currently i can't figure this out..
Here is my regex that i've been messing with for quite sometime now... still seems to be wrong or something else is wrong with my search.
"^/catalogsearch/result((/)|(/\\?)|(/\\?[a-z])|(/\\?[a-z]=))?$"
Please forgive me i'm horrible with regex.
After a lot of discussion, it is concluded that the routes.yaml will consider the url path as a valid route but not the query string part. Hence out of the two examples in the post, you can use
"/catalogsearch/result": { to: "https://example.com/", prefix: false }
and for other one please change it in nginx config to redirect to homepage or if its not possible then check with magento support on how to incorporate the query string part in routes.yaml file.

In Sitecore 7.2 file upload ,the path is coming as media\test\abc.pdf instead of media/test/abc.pdf

I am trying to add one file from file directory in directory.
While I am clicking on +(insert file) the and selecting a file from directory the path is formed as media\test\abc.pdf instead of media/test/abc.pdf.
Even though chrome is able to resolve the url Firefox is not.
I believe it's because you're using a physical file path that you're getting the backslash. One of the simplest things you can do is a string.Replace() expression to make every backslash a forward slash.
Not sure what your specific use case is, or how much work it would be, but if you're going to use the path on the web and your PDF is located in the MediaLibrary, it might be worth looking into using the URL property of the Sitecore.Data.Items.MediaItem object.

Rewrite first folder to GET param for all php files

I am desperately looking for a rule to achieve the following:
Input URL request would be:
http://myserver.com/param/other/folders/and/files.php
It should redirect to
http://myserver.com/other/folders/and/files.php?p=param
similarly the basic index request
http://myserver.com/param/
would redirect to
http://myserver.com/?p=param
All my php files need the parameter, wherever they are. It'd be nice if JS and CSS files would be excluded but I guess it doesn't really matter since the /file.css?p=param would just be ignored and not cause a problem. I have found rules to map a folder to the GET parameter but none of them are working for php files deeper than the index file on the root level. Thanks so much in advance
Replace
http:\/\/([^\/]+)\/(\w+)\/(.*)
with
http:\/\/\1/\?p=\2\/\3

How to include javascript script links to pyrocms page?

I'm using pyrocms to develop a system.
I know that, to include style links in header tag ''
in a page is by using $this->template->set_metadata().
But how can I include javascript links like that?
Any answer is appreciated.
Alternatively, if this is for a theme and the script is housed within your actual theme/js folder, it becomes:
{{ theme:js file="file.js" }}
Using just the {js} function would send it to the actual system's embedded js files.
$this->template->append_metadata(js('foo.js)) will work, or you can dump it into the view as others have suggested.
If you are creating a template you can do it like this:
{js('file.js', 'modulename')}
See the Pyro documentation.
If this is not the answer you are looking for, please explain more clearly what you want. E.g. in which file exactly do you want to include your javascript?

Magento - locate specific core files

I am familiar with theming and using template hints in the Magento back office to locate .phtml files.
What I am not really familiar with are the core files such as app/code/core/Mage/Catalog/Model
What I need to do is override a core file like I would a core phtml file by copying it to 'my theme'.
I basically want to amend some labels which appear on the order summary page of the Magento checkout process - domain.com/checkout/cart/
I followed the trail to the phtml files using template hints. Within the app/design/frontend/default/mytheme/template/checkout/cart I found the code
renderTotals(); ?>
Now I managed, by accident, to stumble upon two of the files I wanted to change:
/httpdocs/app/code/local/Mage/Sales/Model/Quote/Address/Total/Grand.php
/httpdocs/app/code/local/Mage/Sales/Model/Quote/Address/Total/Shipping.php
I made local copies of these files (http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/how_to/how_to_create_a_local_copy_of_app_code_core_mage) to override the default labels, like I would if I was overriding a template file.
My question is, how can you locate core files which pertain to the 'stuff' you want to change, located in function calls such as renderTotals(); ?> in the phtml files?
Not being able to pinpoint stuff like I can with template hints is slowing me down, and I am struggling to find a solution as I am not up on all the vocab surrounding Magento yet.
Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance!
From the same settings page where you turn on Template Path Hints, also turn on the "Add Block Names to Hints" setting. This will show you PHP class names such as: Mage_Sales_Model_Quote_Address_Total_Grand to which you can deduce the folder path (underscores represent a subfolder, and the last piece represents the file name).
If you're getting a block such as Mage_Sales_Model_Quote_Address_Total_Default then sometimes it just takes a little common sense to see that it's pulling in other files from the same folder (such as Grand.php and Shipping.php). But there are generally only a couple files in the same folder, so this is pretty easy to see.
As Sid Vel said, a good Search Project functionality is helpful. But if you find yourself looking at Abstract.php of some class, often you need to look in a subfolder in that directory with the proper name to find the concrete implementations. But still, it gets you very close to where you need to be.
I always use Dreamweaver's site / directory search function. It will scan through all the files in the Core folder and tell you where the function is from. In your case, I would search for "renderTotals". You need to enable PHTML editing in Dreamweaver.
Most IDE's will allow this kind of search option. In Aptana you can Ctrl + Click on the function to open the file it is coming from. Magento takes ages to index itself on Aptana, due to its sheer size.
