If I understand it correctly Google recommend to use the people api instead of the contacts api if you only need read only access. I'm looking for an option to search for contacts on name or company is this possible with the people api or is this only possible with the contacts v3 api.
I don't think it's possible. https://people.googleapis.com/$discovery/rest?version=v1. if you look at the current schema, they don't provide you a method to do query.

I am trying to use the Instagram API for one of my projects. The task I'm trying to accomplish is getting popular hashtags based on an input keyword.
To elaborate a bit: when you're on Instagram, and start typing a hashtag, you get a popup with suggested hashtags related to what you're typing, sorted by popularity.
I'm trying to get these suggestions, but through an API call. Looking at the Instagram API docs, there is Hashtag Search as shown here, but this endpoint searches for posts which use the input hashtag, which is not what I want.
Another post suggested I have a look at Facebook Graph API instead, but again no luck there either.
I know this is possible to do as certain websites which provide services to schedule posts, like this one do it.
So, is there an endpoint in either Instagram or Facebook API that I've missed, or is there any third party API / tool that can accomplish this?
There is not currently any "trending" features as part of Instagram Graph API.
According to the documentation,
https://developers.google.com/people/api/rest/v1/people
https://developers.google.com/people/api/rest/v1/people#skill
it is possible to define the field "skills" when creating a contacts through the People Api. I tried to create a contact with skills populated, and the information are correctly saved in the contacts.
What the field is used for? Is it possible to display such information in Google Contacts? Is there a way to search contacts based on this field?
Thanks in advance to everybody
Those seem to be legacy fields from GPlus days. They aren't used in any UIs. I'd recommend not using them.
I am looking for a location database service for my app. I want to the user to be able to search for businesses restaurants etc around them when they start typing in into the search bar.
Facebook Graph API or Foursquare API achieves this, but there are rate limits on making calls to the API every hour. One way around is using Facebook or Foursquare login to login into my app, but then how do I provide the same functionality for users who don't want to register using Facebook or Foursquare.
Ideally I would want to avoid the extra step or logging in through Facebook or foursqaure altogether. (There if they want the convenience of it, but not mandatory - but access to location look up is mandatory).
In my opinion its always best to use Google Places API. This will get rid of the scenario of login through Facebook or foursquare. But this has a limit to the API calls to be made. But in the development stage or if your app is having a small no of audience then the free api call count is enough.

I read that the Admin SDK works for Google Apps resellers, but I'm having one specific problem.
I want to use the following request to get the number of user licenses in use on one of my customer's domains.
https://www.googleapis.com/admin/reports/v1/usage/dates/%s?parameters=accounts:num_users
But there's no way that I can find to specify the customer's domain name that I want to get the usage report for. Tried a few different ways.
There must be a way that is hiding from me because this was possible with the old deprecated API.
Thanks.
Using the Reports API for this is not advisable because it can be delayed by 48+ hours. It's also not possible for reseller users to run reports for customers at this time. Rather, you should use the Google Apps Reseller API to list subscription counts that should be fully up to date.
Looks like this API here will do the trick:
https://developers.google.com/admin-sdk/admin-settings/#retrieving_the_current_number_of_users_in_a_domain
I want to call the Google product search and get back a parse-able XML file rather than having to scrape the HTML. I'm not looking for a SOAP based service, but a service that returns XML based on a URL passed in.
Correction--this did NOT work:
The Google Base API lists only a subset of Google product sellers (apparently only those who are active users of the Google Base product.)
http://code.google.com/apis/base/docs/2.0/attrs-queries.html
I eventually ended up using a screen scraping solution and then found that the data was too inconsistant to use for my purposes at all. :-(
