Affectiva emotion SDK - exception thrown when calling .setLicensePath() and setClassifierPath() - c++

I am trying to use Affectiva emotion sdk to make a demo program. However, when I call detector.setLicensePath(), an exception is thrown (see image below). Does anyone know how to resolve this?
The code is something similar to this:
const std::wstring AFFDEX_DATA_DIR = L"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Affectiva\\Affdex SDK\\data";
…
…
photoDetector.setLicensePath(AFFDEX_DATA_DIR);

If setLicensePath and/or setClassifierPath returns a std::length_error exception, it means the SDK DLL you are using probably doesn't match the configuration you use to build your binary. For example, if you build in debug mode, but use the release version of the SDK DLL, you will get this exception. The configuration must match the version of the DLL you use. I've gotten this error myself and have just updated the documentation: http://developer.affectiva.com/windows/#configuring-a-detector

If you are using the last version, you need to give the license file (and not a folder):
const std::wstring AFFDEX_LICENSE_FILE = L"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Affectiva\\Affdex SDK\\data\\affdex.license";
videoDetector.setLicensePath(AFFDEX_LICENSE_FILE);

How to debug MagickReadImage fail when no Exception occurs

I have some MagickWand code where the MagickReadImage() fails (returns MagickFalse) on one system where it works on the other.
Now there is no exception occuring, MagickGetException() returns an empty string which means no exception if I understood the documentation correctly.
The file I want to open is there, I can open it with other tools under the same user, and the magick_wand I use is not NULL.
The code around the call is essentially this:
// read image
MagickBooleanType status = MagickReadImage(magick_wand, fn_selector);
// make sure it worked
if (status == MagickFalse)
{
char *description;
ExceptionType severity;
description=MagickGetException(magick_wand,&severity);
fprintf(stderr,"%s %s %lu :%s: %u\n",GetMagickModule(),description,severity);
description=(char *) MagickRelinquishMemory(description);
fprintf(stderr, "magickwand couldn't read file %s\n", fn_selector);
exit(1);
}
Is there any way to find out why the function call fails? MagickReadImage() seems to call an internal function which is not easily debuggable, and I don't want to build the MagickWand library myself with added debug stuff if not absolutely necessary.
Using MagickWand version 6.8.9.9 (debian jessie)
Turns out (after going through an strace) the PDF reading part of ImageMagick requires the ghostscript executable (/usr/bin/gs) to be installed on the system. Now when installing ImageMagick via the Debian apt package manager, ghostscript is not a dependency, only a recommend of the Magick library. Unfortunately Magick does not think it's necessary to inform you in any way that a library component is missing when the read call fails.
After installing the ghostscript package, everything works as expected.

Exe built using pyinstaller on a Django with pylucene app giving JVM error

I am getting an error:
"Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: Can't find dependent libraries"
The error arises when I try to execute my exe file.
I have created exe file through pyinstaller on a django application. Application uses pylucine library. I think it may be the issue of error.
How to fix the error?
Since I can't be certain given you've provided very few details here is a shot in the dark to help solve your problem:
First, try removing the jvm.dll file that gets packaged with the pyinstaller -D youmodule.py command (for now work with the directory command rather than -F option). The reason why is here.
With that jvm.dll file gone, you should start seeing the actual error code - and with that the java class or dependency that isn't being loaded.
If it's a java class that isn't being properly loaded then you know instantly it must not be correcly represented in the classpath environment variable and you should do everything in your power to make sure it is:
e.g.: os.environ['CLASSPATH'] += 'the/path/to/the/jar'
Otherwise, consider bulking up your question with more details, especially if you can get a more meaningful error output.
I had the same error trying to run a .exe built with PyInstaller through wine.
My problem went away by adding C:\Program Files\Java\ [your jdk version here] \jre\bin\server to the PATH environment variable in wine - I suppose it might be the same in Windows.
It also reappeared if I tried to build with C:\Program Files\Java\ [your jdk version here] \jre\bin\server in my PATH, so I had to build without it and then append it before running it (I have no explanation as to why this happens).

Creating R package containing C++ on Windows

My goal is to create a package in R with C++ code: So my questions is how?
I am following the tutorial http://www.stat.columbia.edu/~gelman/stuff_for_blog/AlanRPackageTutorial.pdf on creating an R package containing C++ code. The specific code Im trying to compile and package is exactly as described in the tutorial.
R CMD SHLIB seems to be working creating .dll file.
I can load in R using dyn.load() and test it on simulated data (as described in tutorial)
R CMD INSTALL is where the problem begins. I have done two things encountering two different errors supposedly related:
1) The tutorial says the NAMESPACE file is supposed to contain the code:
useDynLib(XDemo)
export(XDemoAutoC)
When it does R CMD INSTALL fail resulting in error:
Error in inDL(x,as.logical(local), as.logical(now),...): unable to
load shared object 'C:/.../libs/i386/XDemo.dll': Loadlibrary failure:
1% is not a valid Win32-program
2) Removing the above mentioned lines in NAMESPACE file will result in installation of package. I can succesfully load it in R but when I try to use the R function that makes a .C() call to the C++ written function I another error:
library(newpackage)
ls(package:newpackage)
[[1]] "XDemoAutoC"
Warning message:
In ls(package:newpackage) :
‘package:newpackage’ converted to character string
XDemoAutoC(c(1,2,3,4))
Error in .C("DemoAutoCor", OutVec = as.double(vector("numeric", OutLength)), :
C symbol name "DemoAutoCor" not in load table
Im running version R2.15.2 on windows 64-bit and using R64 bit.
I read the following post with a similar problem:
http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/Include-C-DLL-error-in-C-symbol-name-not-in-load-table-td3464021.html
Except they mention nothing about the NAMESPACE-matter.
Also I read this post:
Problem with loading compiled c code in R x64 using dyn.load
So I am thinking: that based on the fact that I am able to use dyn.load() in Rx64 means that I have succesfully created x64 .dll. Assuming that the NAMESPACE file is supposed to be left as in the tutorial - hopefully fixing the >>not in load table<< error - this would mean I should focus on fixing problem one. This problem seems to be caused by something related to 32-bit. I have used Dependency Walker on the .dll file but I am not sure how to interpret the results
I really don't have any ideas on how to fix this problem so any suggestion on what to do would be welcome?
I think you are doing it wrong. Two quick suggestions:
Read the Writing R Extensions manual written to explain just this: writing R extensions including those with compiled code
Have a look at Rcpp which makes R and C++ extensions, including package building so much easier. Or so we think. Writing a package is as easy as calling Rcpp.package.skeleton(). The documentation in 1) still help.
That said, if R CMD INSTALL fails you may have some mixup in your $PATH. Never ever mix MinGW and Cygwin. Make sure no Cygwin DLLs are found when you build or call R. Path order matters greatly. See the manual for details.

Firebreath plugin on windows fails to load in chrome

I am busy converting by existing firebreath plugin here to use gpgme instead of making calls via the OS and the gpg binary.
I have managed to get the code to compile in windows using VS 2010 on a x32 system but after loading the plugin into chrome I can not access the npapi code at all. Even simple version calls fails.
When loading the plugin I get no visible errors but when using sawbuck log viewer for chrome I get the erorr messages below.
.\renderer\webplugin_delegate_proxy.cc 347 PluginMsg_Init returned false
..\plugins\npapi\webplugin_impl.cc 271 Couldn't initialize plug-in
I have tried to use my code with both firebreath 1.4 and 1.6 and neither versions work. After some simple debugging it seems that using any code provided by gpgme (whether its called or not) causes the plugin to break.
I came to this conclusion by doing the following.
Created a new project with firebreath (versions 1.4 and 1.6)
Add the gpgme.h headers to gmailGPGAPI.cpp and changed nothing else aside from adding the required reference paths to the project.
Build the project to create the dll (this generates the dll fine).
Replace the existing ddl in my project with the dll in step 2 and test it with the following piece of code
plugin = document.createElement('object'); plugin.id = 'plugin';
plugin.type = 'application/x-gmailtest';
document.body.appendChild(plugin);
console.log("my plugin returned: "+ plugin.valid);
console.log("my plugin returned: " + plugin.version);
This returns valid = true and the version returns what ever i set it to.
I then modified gmailGPGAPI.cpp to now return the gpg version by calling gpgme_check_version(NULL) in the version method. I used that method because its probably the simplest returning function that I could test with.
Build the plugin and copy dll to chrome extension as in step 3-4. The plugin builds fine again as expected.
Load the plugin and try to execute the code in step 4 at which point it now just returns undefined for any property or method i try to access on the plugin. No errors are printed to the console or anywhere else in chrome except for the error logged to sawbuck.
I have got no idea where to look or what to try since I cant seem to get an actionable error to work against. I have also reduced by test code to the point where its just a new project with a one line change to make it easier to find the problem.
I should note the code in the repo builds fine in linux/OSX and loads into chrome correctly so I know at some level my code does work.
Two possible paths:
You may have a DLL dependency that isn't available which keeps the plugin from loading; if you run regsvr32 on it in the state where it doesn't work on chrome, does it work?
Your plugin may be loading and then crashing. Start chrome with --plugin-startup-dialog and then when it pops up a dialog warning you that a plugin is about to be loaded attach to that process and see if the process crashes. At this point you can also set breakpoints to try to figure out how far it gets.
Double check your metadata in PluginConfig.cmake as well; sometimes unusual characters in some fields can cause issues like this.

Is there a simpler Windows C++ Subversion API or an example .vcproj for minimal_client.c?

Following on the tails of my previous (answered) question...
SharpSvn makes calling the Subversion client API simple:
SvnClient client = new SvnClient();
client.Authentication.DefaultCredentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password);
client.CheckOut(new Uri("http://xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa/svn/repository"), workingCopyDir);
On the other hand, calling the client API from C/C++, as shown in minimal_client.c requires coding "closer to the metal", as it were, on Subversion.
Are there Windows libraries for C++ in Visual Studio 2003 that present a simpler interface than what minimal_client uses?
If there are not, is there a VS2003 C++ project (a .vcproj file) that demonstrates getting minimal_client to run? I'm able to compile minimal_client.c and link it using the following libraries:
libsvn_client-1.lib libsvn_delta-1.lib libsvn_diff-1.lib libsvn_fs-1.lib libsvn_fs_base-1.lib libsvn_fs_fs-1.lib libsvn_ra-1.lib libsvn_ra_local-1.lib libsvn_ra_svn-1.lib libsvn_repos-1.lib libsvn_subr-1.lib libsvn_wc-1.lib libapr-1.lib libaprutil-1.lib xml.lib libneon.lib
but when I run my application (in the debugger or start the release build without debugging), it runs for about 20 seconds without hitting the first line of main() and then throws this exception:
An unhandled exception of type
'System.TypeLoadException' occurred in
Unknown Module.
Additional information: Could not load
type apr_pool_t from assembly
minimal_client,
Version=1.0.3477.16033,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null.
I've tried various combination of libsvn_.lib and svn_.lib to no avail.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
EDIT: I started fresh with a "Win32 Console Project" (still in VS2003) and I am now able to debug the first few lines of my app. But now, on this line:
if (svn_cmdline_init ("minimal_client", stderr) != EXIT_SUCCESS)
I get a different exception (in the debugger or start the release build without debugging):
Unhandled exception at 0x7c91b21a in
Win32ConsoleProject_minimal_client.exe:
0xC0000005: Access violation writing
location 0x00000010.
EDIT: This thread explains that this error is a CRT mismatch between svn and stderr in my app. If I don't want to build Svn so they match (I don't want to), I can pass NULL instead of stderr (provided I'm willing to do without messages that would go to stderr) When I did this, my app ran all the way through correctly.
It seems that C++ wrappers are not overflowing the 'net. However, you may want to try SVNCPP, which can be yoinked from RapidSVN.
See http://rapidsvn.tigris.org/ for details (note: I've not tried it).
Can you upgrade to Visual C++ 2005 ? If so, you could just go using SharpSvn with C++/CLI.
Or even maybe stick to VC2003 and go SharpSvn with Managed C++ ? (not that I have any knowledge on the how od even the if)
edit: oh well, SharpSvn's homepage explicitely states that VC++ 2005 SP1 is required...
