Regex Matching Behaviour Of \w - regex

I noticed some interesting behaviour with some regex work I am doing, and I'd like some insight.
From what I understand, the word character, \w should match the following [a-zA-Z_0-9]
Given this input,
0000000060399301+0000000042456971+0000000
What should this regex
(\d+)\w
Capture?
I would expect it to capture 0000000060399301 but it actually captures 000000006039930
Is there something I am missing? Why is the 1 dropped from the end?
I noticed if I changed the regex to
(\d+\w)
It captures correctly i.e. including the 1

You require the regex to match a trailing word character - that would be the 1.
It cannot be another character, because
+ is not a word class character
+ is not a digit
matching is greedy

\d+ - matches one or more digit characters.
\w+ - matches one or more word characters. [A-Za-z\d_]
So with this string 0000000060399301+, \d+ in this (\d+)\w regex matches all the digits (including the 1 before +) at very first, since the following pattern is \w , regex engine tries to find a match, so it backtracks one character to the left and forces \w to match the digit before + . Now the captured group contains 000000006039930 and the last 1 is matched by \w

The 1 is being dropped because \w isn't in the capture group.

Regular expression that matches at least 4 words starting with the same letter?

I've been trying to solve this problems for few hours but with no luck. The task is to write a regular expression that matches at least four words starting with the same letter. But! These words do not have to be one after another.
This regex should be able to match a line like this:
cat color coral chat
but also one like this:
cat take boom candle creepy drum cheek

So far I have got this regex but it only matches words when they are in order.
(\w)\w+\s+\1\w+\s+\1\w+\s+\1
If you have only words in the line that can be matched with \w:
\b(\w)\w*(?:(?:\s+\w+)*?\s+\1\w*){3}
Explanation
\b A word boundary to prevent a partial word match
(\w)\w* Capture a single word character in group 1 followed by matching optional word characters
(?: Non capture group to repeat as a whole part
(?:\s+\w+)*? Match 1+ whitespace chars and 1+ word chars in between in case the word does not start with the character captured in the back reference
\s+\1\w* Match 1+ whitespace chars, a backreference to the same captured character and optional word characters
){3} Close the non capture group and repeat 3 times

Note that \s can also match a newline.
If the words that should with the same character should be at least 2 characters long (as (\w)\w+ matches 2 or more characters)
\b(\w)\w+(?:(?:\s+\w+)*?\s+\1\w+){3}

Another idea to match lines with at least 4 words starting with the same letter:
\b(\w)(?:.*?\b\1){3}

This is not very accurate, it just checks if there are three \b word boundaries, each followed by \1 in the first group \b(\w) captured character to the right with .*? any characters in between.

Regex match an optional number of digits

I have a list that could look sort of like
("!Goal 27' Edward Nketiah"),
("!Goal 33' 46' Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang"),
("!Sub Nicolas Pepe"),
("Jordan Pickford"),
and I'm looking to match either !Sub or !Goal 33' 46' or !Goal 27'
Right now I'm using the regex (!\w+\s) which will match !Goal and !Sub, but I want to be able to get the timestamps too. Is there an easy way to do that? There is no limit on the number of timestamps there could be.
As I mentioned in my comment, you can use the following regex to accomplish this:
(!\w+(?:\s\d+')*)
Explanation:
(!\w+(?:\s\d+')*) capture the following
! matches this character literally
\w+ matches one or more word characters
(?:\s\d+')* match the following non-capture group zero or more times
\s match a whitespace character
\d+ matches one or more digits
' match this character literally
Additionally, the first capture group isn't necessary - you can remove it to simply match:
!\w+(?:\s\d+')*
If you need each timestamp, you can use !\w+(\s\d+')* and split capture group 1 on the space character.
If your input always follows the format "bang text blank digits apostrophe blank digits apostrophe etc", then it should be as simple as:
!\w+(?:\s\d+')*

! matches an exclamation mark
\w+ matches 1 or more word-characters (letters, underscores)
(?:…) is a non-capturing group
\s matches a single whitespace character
\d+ matches one or more digits
' matches the apostrophe character
* repeatedly matches the group 0 or more times
this :
(!\w+(?:\s\d+')*)
will capture :
"!Goal 27'"
"!Goal 33' 46'"
"!Sub"

RegEx: don't capture match, but capture after match

There are a thousand regular expression questions on SO, so I apologize if this is already covered. I did look first.
I have string:
Name Subname 11X22 88X620 AB33(20) YA5619 77,66
I need to capture this string: YA5619
What I am doing is just finding AB33(20) and after this I am capturing until first white space. But AB33(20) can be AB-33(20) or AB33(-20) or AB33(-1).
My preg_match regex is: (?<=\bAB\d{2}\(\d{2}\)\s).+?(?=\s)
Why I am getting error when I change from \d{2} to \d+?
For final result I was thinking this regix will work but no:
(?<=\bAB-?\d+\(-?\d+\)\s).+?(?=\s)
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
With most regex flavors, lookbehind needs to evaluate to a fixed-length sequence, so you can't use variable quantifiers like * or + or even {1,2}.
Instead of using lookaround, you can simply match your marker pattern and then forget it with \K.
AB-?\d+(?:\(-?\d+\))? \K[^ ]+

It depends on the language. If it is in .NET for example, it matches due to the various length in the lookbehind.
Another solution might be to use a character class and add the character you would allow to match. Then match a whitespace character and capture in a group matching \S+ which matches 1+ times not a whitespace character.
\bAB[()\d-]+\s\K\S+
Explanation
\bAB Match literally prepended with word boundary to prevent AB being part of a larger match.
[()\d-]+ Match 1+ times any of the listed character in the character class
\s Match a whitespace char (or \s+ to match 1 or more)
\K Reset the starting point of the reported match( Forget what was matched)
\S+ Match in a group 1+ times not a whitespace character

I want to match a pattern with regex, the pattern is:

so for example:

Solution update:
^[A-Za-z0-9]+\[[0-9]+-[0-9]+]$
Use this regex: [A-Za-z]+[1-9]\[[0-9]+-[0-9]+\]. You might also want to add \b at the start of the regex to match only after non words character.
[A-Za-z]+ matches things like test, only letters are accepted, one or more times
[1-9] matches a any digit but 0
\[[0-9]+-[0-9]+\] matches one or more digits twice and separated with -. All this must be enclosed with square brackets. (You need to escape those with \ because they are metacharacters)

check if a string starts with number using regular expression

I am writing a filebeat configuration when I am matching if a line starts with a number like 03:32:33 ( a timestamp). I am currently doing it by-
\d
But its not getting recognised, is there anything else which I should do. I am not particularly good/ have experience with regex. Help will be appreciated.
The real problem is that filebeat does not support \d.
Replace \d by [0-9] and your regular expression will work.
I suggest you to give a look at the filebeat's Supported Patterns.
Also, be sure you've used ^, it stands for the start of the string.

You repeated the capturing group itself. The group will capture only the last iteration. Put a capturing group around the repeated group to capture all iterations. «{3}»
Or, if you don’t want to capture anything, replace the capturing group with a non-capturing group to make your regex more efficient.

Exactly 2 times «{2}»
Match the character “:” literally «:?»
Between zero and one times, as many times as possible, giving back as needed (greedy) «?»
You can use:
^\d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2}
The character ^ matches the start of a line.
