I understand ColdFusion 9 is no longer supported, but we are still using it for some systems until we can migrate to ColdFusion 10.
We were using a hosting provider who was providing us the ColdFusion 9 standard license and charging us for it. We found an unused license key (for ColdFusion 9 standard) and want to use that instead of getting charged a leasing fee from the hosting provider.
I understand the steps are to log-in to ColdFusion Admin, click on the System Information icon and enter the new license key.
Anything else we need to be aware of so that there are no unexpected issues?
No, that is all you need to do. As long as the license key is valid CF9 will update to that license and stay running in standard mode.

I am installing Sitecore 8.1 with SIM and get several Javascript errors coming from ajax request returning HTTP 500 errors when open my launchpad. Looking in the developers tools shows the message:

That results to several icons missing from Launchpad, for example FXM.
When I do installation from *.exe file from SDN I am getting the same result.
Is there any way to fix that, or that's Sitecore bug?
I assume, the reason for you missing FXM and other icons is because of installing Sitecore with your old license file. The page on SDN says:
Sitecore 8.1 now requires a license with the “Sitecore.xDB” key to enable all features of the Experience Platform. If your license file does not contain this key, Sitecore will default to Experience Management (CMS-only) mode. Any customers or partners with a license to Experience Platform should contact their account manager or login to SPN if they are missing this key.
That means you have to obtain license for 8.1 that includes xDB (if you need xDB and are going to use)
I have experience the same behaviour as well on multiple machines.
Without having correct license file you Sitecore instance turns into CMS-only mode (link).
But in any case, returning 500 (internal server) errors in console, is not correct way of doing things (I have even submitted support ticket about that behaviour on previous week). That happens even in case you explicitly turn CMS-only mode in Sitecore.xDB.config file; so I think that is a bug.
Hope that answers your question!
Our server currently is running Railo. I have search the net for a way to move the CFM pointers from Railo to Coldfusion 11. I find hundreds of CF to Railo but nothing back.
Before anyone asks why we are doing this, it's because of the limitations of Railo for what we need, i.e. CFPDF, CFPrint, etc.
The problem is when I turn off Railo, I cannot process .cfm files. I also need to change where the Coldfusion webroot is to our current webroot. I have it all setup in Apache but CF11 is not seeing it.
I am new to CF11 so please help. Thank you!
You guys asked for a little more information, here is my edit:
We are running on Linux, Debian. It's a web server that we will be deploying Digital PDF's with a limited amount of printing to it. I.E., Customer buys 5 copies, so we need to limit their copies to 5 prints. We know said customer could buy just 1 and photo copy it. However, the owner of the site wants to be able to allow this feature.
Thank you for all of the information. We have a new server running ColdFusion 11 and CFPDF is working really well.
Currently I have a Primary 1 server Sitecore license which is hosted on a live server. my question is can I use this license to setup a copy of the site on my local machine or would this require an upgraded Sitecore license?
I would recommend asking your Sitecore sales rep for an official answer to this question. Unofficially, though, I think you're in the clear to use your license for a local development environment.
I currently work for a company that bought Sitecore & used a partner, my company bought 1 license.
The site went live a few months ago and now my company have now decided to cut ties with our partner and take the development of the sitecore site and any other sites inhouse.
My question is: Using the license our company currently has, can we develop the site, and can we create new sites etc?
If anyone can shed any light on what can and cant be done would be great as at the moment Im trying to get my head round how we take our current live site forward and how we think about creating new sites inside sitecore also.
Regards
kyllle
As long as the license your company uses is a developer license, you can continue using it to develop that site and others, if it is for a different site and not a dev license you'll need to get a developer license from Sitecore.
You can usually email them at support#sitecore.com (it'll take a while to get a reply though).
I know there old and everything, and I already have Coldfusion 8, but I found a great hosting deal and need Coldfusion mx6.1 for it - deos anyone have a link to a place where i can download it?
ColdFusion mx 6.1 windows IS available form FigLeaf, they were given permission to host the downlaod from Adobe. From an old mailing list post I've have stored for prosperity.
Fig Leaf Software has been authorized by Adobe to provide older releases of
CF upon request:

hth,
john.
UPDATE 19/01/2012 - The above link is still active!
If you have good hosting deal and want cheap (or free) CFML engine, why wouldn't you try the Railo?
If you want a free CFML engine, then Railo is definitely the way to go! I've had it running on my server for about a year now and love it!
Official Coldfusion 6 is no longer downloadable from Adobe and support is discontinued.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402091.html
There is no free edition of Coldfusion which can be used for business. Coldfusion 9 has a free educational version for universities as well as a developer's edition which can be used for up to two (2) ip addresses.
