How to add custom menu in Sitecore menu list - sitecore

i want to add my custom application name in Sitecore Start Menu List, i'm following this article :
Adding Application Shortcut
it saying use Core database i'm using this, i couldn't find Layout studio, can any sitecore developer suggest me how to find this and finish my job. Thanks in advance.

I think the instructions you've linked to there are out of date. I've not seen that bit of UI in recent releases of Sitecore.
Working in Sitecore 6.6 I've successfully made custom applications using these instructions:
http://sdn.sitecore.net/Articles/Customizing%20Sitecore%20Client/Adding%20an%20Application%20Shortcut/Creating%20an%20Application.aspx
But beware the issue that I've blogged about here. The recent revisions of Sitecore subtly break the configuration defined above, and you have to manually edit out a file extension to make everything work:

Based on the "it doesn't work in 7.5" comment below, I've tried these instructions on a test instance of Sitecore 7.5 rev 141003. It seems 7.5 behaves slightly differently - but I can still make it work.
Create the item under /sitecore/content/Applications using the external link button for the "Application" field. With raw values displayed, it should look something like:
And then create your application shortcut under /sitecore/content/Documents and settings/All users/Start menu using an internal link for the Application field. I found this still added the '.aspx' extension mentioned in my blog post, but I also found that editing it out again didn't work - it reappeared as soon as I hit save. I needed to edit out the extension from the link data using the Raw Values view in order to get the data shown below:
With those things set up, refreshing the page caused the test item to appear on my start menu:
Hopefully that works for you too?

Which version of Sitecore are you using? The Layout Studio is probably one of the least features in Sitecore, and personally not something I have ever used.
Instead you should create the the layout in Visual Studio - which then means your layout can be added to your Source Control System. Then follow the instructions in the link in Jeremy's answer.
If you do need to access the Layout Studio for some reason you can find it under: Sitecore menu > Development Tools > Developer Center. From there you can create new files/open existing files.

Sitecore add here button not showing the Add rendering dialog

All of a sudden the Add here button in experience editor to add a rendering is not working. When clicked nothing happens. Do you have any idea where can I start look into? I already tried to remove the custom styles and scripts in my Editing theme. Sitecore version is 9 update 2 and SXA is 1.7
You have started from the right thing. Please make sure that you have the valid base themes defined in the Media Library: /sitecore/Media Library/Base Themes, especially, the Editing Theme with the logic used to edit components in Experience Editor.
Another idea is to check the order in which the layers load in Sitecore. The default order is defined in Website/App_Config/layers.config, make sure that SXA configuration loads last in the Modules layer, so that all custom modules are processed ahead of the SXA. It is recommended to create a custom patch file instead of modifying the standard configuration.
Hope this helps.
Did you check the console?
Maybe you have some error caused by some new custom script and that's preventing the add button to work
We had this issue for a specific set of placeholders, fortunately affecting only a single project in our solution. To fix the behavior, we had to manually set "editable" to false -> save item and then back to true -> save item for every affected placeholder.
[EDIT]
We finally found the culprit, it was related to a Sitecore bug documented here: https://kb.sitecore.net/articles/706490
Setting the value for Query.MaxSize from 100 to 400 permanently fixed the issue

How to create content section in xcart?

How we can create content section in xcart like we create in wordpress via widget ? is there any option like this ? i want to make home page with 4 section with image content and link them to particular page .
This differs depending on X-Cart version. There are two major versions now: X-Cart 4 and X-Cart 5. They are very different and in order to give you any advice it is better to now what X-Cart version you are using.
Alex Mulin is right, it's kinda difficult to answer your question without such specific info as your X-Cart version. Yet I'll try to. In both cases the webmaster mode can help you do the trick. See video tutorials below.
Webmaster mode in X-Cart 4 :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QrpH4cQGpE
Webmaster mode in X-Cart 5:
http://devs.x-cart.com/en/webinars_and_video_tutorials/using_webmaster_mode_in_x-cart_5.html
If they don't work for you for some reason, try to ask the same question but be a bit more specific, or at least provide the store URL and I will be able to check the version.
What you are trying to do is skin-dependent and each skin has its own sections.
In order to find the files that you need to edit, go to Admin Panel>Settings>General Settings>Enable debugging console and check its box.
When checked, if you open your store, it opens a popup that that shows you the smarty templates loaded (make sure your browser does not block popups).
You can then change the smarty template files in order to add whatever you want. If you are not familiar with them, they are basically extended HTML files with some basic commands (if/for/etc.) and you can get stuff from PHP files in them as well. You can use xcart webmaster mode to edit those files too as mentioned by other answers.
This video can also be useful for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN__DZrNrRM (X-Cart - Storefront Design and Layout)
And here's some XCart documentation on how to customize store front and skins:

How to better manage versions in Sitecore Page Editor

The way that Page Editor handles versions has been causing issues for in one of our Sitecore solutions for a client. I've posted about them here:
Sitecore instance showing incorrect workflow state in Page Editor
Expected usage of Page Editor's Experience date
I didn't get much response on those and so far I've surmised that this is just how Sitecore works. This is less than ideal for our instance, as when publishing restrictions are set, authors don't know which version they're editing which is causing various issues for them.
I'd like to implement a solution(s) to improve the experience provide the following functionality:
Something in the Experience tab that shows the number of the version being viewed.
A button on the Experience tab that resets the Date to the default (this is not simply setting the date to the current date/time, but resetting it to act as it did before a date was manually set).
A custom button in Content Editor which allows an author to open a specific version in Page Editor...set the date automatically when it opens, I guess.
An any one give me some clues on how much of this is possible and where to start?
Thanks.
For the first bullet "Something in the Experience tab that shows the number of the version being viewed", you can add version item in Core database.
Move to "Core" DB in Desktop Mode
Navigate to "/sitecore/content/Applications/WebEdit/Ribbons/WebEdit/Experience/"
Create "Versions" item like this, http://imgur.com/bPEDm7R
Create "Compare" item under "Versions" like this, http://imgur.com/dG8dz2M
The result like this, http://imgur.com/HPu3XAL
The content author can see which version they are using and they can also compare with previous versions.

Which .XML file are using for Insert Link button of General Link field in Sitecore 7.2

Can anybody tell me which .xml file are using for Insert Link button of General Link field in Sitecore 7.2.
I have tried to update below files but all are not affecting -
Sitecore.Shell.Application.Dialogs.InternalLink-InternalLink.xml
Sitecore.Shell.Application.Dialogs.InsertLink-InsertLink.xml
Sitecore.Shell.Application.Buckets - BucketInternalLink.xml
Sitecore.Shell.Application.Buckets - InsertLink.xml
I think under Buckets folder files are using in case of General Link field with Search
I have tried for all
If I am updating other files like
Sitecore.Shell.Application.Dialogs.ExternalLink - ExternalLink.xml
then it's showing updates in Sitecore but in case of insert link no one files are working.
Thanks in advance
check out my blogpost about fixing the internal link. It might prove difficult to extend but it is possible. At least I have been able to override the class and pass the preLoadPath.
http://reinoudvandalen.nl/blog/fixing-sitecore-7-internal-link-with-speak/
In Sitecore 7.2 the XML Insert Link Dialog is replaced by the new SPEAK UI Dialog. The actual url of the insert link dialog is located on
http://[yourdomain]/sitecore/client/applications/dialogs/InsertLinkViaTreeDialog
The actual file is located in the core database under: /sitecore/client/Applications/Dialogs/InsertLinkViaTreeDialog.
From there you can navigate to the appropriate renderings and modify them (which might affect other windows.
If you want to enable the old style InsertLink that uses the InsertLink.xml you can disable it from /App_Config/Include/Sitecore.Speak.config and remove the following line:
<override dialogUrl="/sitecore/shell/Applications/Dialogs/Internal%20link.aspx" with="/sitecore/client/applications/dialogs/InsertLinkViaTreeDialog" />

Sitecore Broken Links and Content Editor Issues

We've been noticing an increase in number of broken links on our sitecore website.
Some it is due to
User Training
Publishing Issues (linked page is not yet published)
Maybe content editor issues
It's been hard to verify some of these but sometimes the link might have the authoring page URL (which means someone didn't follow the SOP), sometimes they have a strange url like /shell/Content Editor/...
So we are trying to proactively fix these before the pages go live.
I had a couple ideas like writing a Handler that would look through all "Rich Text Fields" and looking for inconsistencies (like authoring server URL). Also using a crawler-type of validator could help us (http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html#Description) but we were wondering what the community was doing to address this issue.
The "internal link checker" usually works well but doesn't detect many of this erroneous setups (as I believe it sees them as 'external links').
Your input is greatly appreciated!
If you have RichText fields and create internal links, your internal link looks like this in the HTML view: "a href="~/link.aspx?_id=EB3AD128E7BF4F3C9F3812F701D7724E&_z=z" and when you hover with your mouse over it, is show "/Sitecore/Shell/Controls/Rich Text Editor/" before the ~/link.aspx. This is normal behavior. This link is modified to a normal link during rendering of the RTE field.
However, be sure to use the Sitecore controls like to render these RTE fields and to render links. Also using sc:fld() in XSLT instead of sc:field() can create strange links because sc:fld is rendering the raw value of the field.
In all of the Sitecore projects I have been working on, I didn't have much issues with broken links.
There is a known bug with copy-pasting links from a rich text editor, where path info is appended to the link (generating the /shell/Content Editor/ stuff).
Sitecore have a fix for it here:
http://sdn.sitecore.net/Products/Sitecore%20V5/Sitecore%20CMS%206/ReleaseNotes/KnownIssues%20Recommended/Copying%20and%20pasting%20link%20in%20rt%20fields%20may%20break%20the%20link.aspx
I would suggest a new Validation Action added to the workflow command before the items are finalized. Then you could actively stop them from being published and give immediate feedback. If you're not using workflows, you could add a new item level validator, but those often get ignored in my experience -- too many false positives on the existing validators.
