I have an web service (.asmx) in in IIS. If click invoke button for the web service via machine name and port it is fine.
http:// example:1111/mymethod
However, if I access it via url http:// example.com/mymethod and click invoke button again,
I see the URL changes to http:// example.com:1111/mymethod. So port number is added in automatically.
It is on iis 7, can anyone help?
worked out this now.
IT setup the site on our load balancer, which redirects to the server on port 1111. As a result, IIS will receive a request to my url on port 1111 and Microsoft code will add port number in the wsdl file.
So I asked IT to redirect to the server on port 80, and on IIS I setup the host header to be my url and port 80. This solves the issue.

I am trying to understand how to host different apps in server, so can server host different domain in same port.
For example, I have domain1 and domain2 both hosted at port 443. Can this be done?
I am doing this in IIS server.
A single web IIS server can host different domain in same port. However, in order IIS to distribute HTTP requests correctly, each website has to be identified with some unique value. In case of an IIS website, it consists of three attributes that make up a unique combination for each website. These are:
a TCP port number
an IP address
a host header (host name)
The information about the hosted websites is stored in the ServerBindings attribute of the IIS metabase in the following format: IP:Port:Hostname. Thus, if you want to host multiple websites on the same port and IP address, you will have to use a unique Host header. What is it? Host header is a part of an HTTP request to the server sent by a client that specifies which website it is addressed to. Accordingly, this host header must be specified on the side of the web server, and the DNS contains the correct record that matches the hostname and the IP address of the IIS web server.
Let’s suppose that you have a website running on IIS and listening 443 port. And you need to bind second website to the same port. In the IIS Manager, create another website with the name TestSite, which files will be located in c:\inetpub\TestSite (do not specify the hostname yet). After you click OK, a warning appears that you cannot use the binding *:443 for both sites.
The binding '*:443:' is assigned to another site. If you assign the same binding to this site, you will only be able to start one of the sites. Are you sure that you want to add this duplicate binding?
Agree to this warning. So you have got another site bound to port 443, you cannot start it without stopping the first site.
I'm behind a router and I have a web service hosted on Tomcat on my laptop. It's running on port 8080. I want my phone, also connected to my home network to be able to send HTTP requests to my laptop on port 8080. I installed a REST service app on my phone that allows me to send customized HTTP requests to wherever, and I tried sending it to 192.168.1.20:8080/web-service/test, where 192.168.1.20 is the address of my laptop on my home network and /web-service/test is the url I'm using to interact with the web-service, but I keep getting an "invalid request" message. When I access the web-service through that url using localhost:8080/web-service/test on my laptop the text that's printed in the browser is "running," but not when accessed through the phone.
I also tried pinging my laptop from my phone using another app and the ping is successful. The firewall is turned off and network sharing is on (windows 10). Anyone have any idea why I cannot access the web-service using 192.168.1.20:8080/web-service/test?
the problem was with the rest api testing app i was using on my phone. for some reason it was showing me an "invalid request" message even if the same url worked when i visited it from the chrome app. but basically it was working the entire time.
I have a test server that I can ping successfully although I'm not able to see a hello world test page I've created and mapped in IIS. I've also created an Inbound rule in the windows firewall. Is there something else I'm missing? I'm browsing http://x.x.x.x:888
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Update
This is a AWS server
Have tried telnet from a client machine but I get Operation timed out
Nothing in IIS logs (C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\xxx)
Port 888 is what I assign the test website to in IIS
Have also moved the test file (index.htm) into the default website within IIS and tried browsing http://x.x.x.x:80/index.htm but I get This site can’t be reached
browsing http://localhost on the server displays the 'hello' message test page.
In windows explorer I've gone to the security settings by right clicking on the website folder and allowing 'everyone' read access
Firewall screen shot
Important update
the IP http://x.x.x.x:888 is the public IP within AWS for the server, not the interal IP of that actual server
On windows 10, I found a firewall issue for my testing server, this worked for me: go to Windows Firewall -> Advanced Settings -> Windows Firewall properties and set a public profile to allow incoming connections.
CFHTTP on my new CF 9 server is failing. I get back "408 Request Time-out" when attempting to connect to the test page on the server via its internal or external IP. I am not using SSL and using the standard port 80.
My old CF 9 server can connect to itself fine but it also fails if attempting to connect to the new server.
If I RDP into the server, I am able to pull up the same test page via a web browser or via telnet to that ip port 80.
I suspect that this is a firewall issue. I'd like to know how CF makes an HTTP request under the hood before I talk to the hosting team. What service is making the call? What port is it running under, etc.
You don't say what operating system you are running under, but if it is Windows, I'd take a look at the Windows Firewall settings on your new machine, and disable the firewall. That will allow you to check if indeed it is the Firewall in the way.
If that works you can then try and add a firewall exception for the application, i.e. JRun.
Hope that helps.
I want to precisely set the port for a .NET 3.5 web service using the client services api
I have been trying to get this to work using
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb546195.aspx to no avail I have my domain mydomain .com / Appservices where is Appservices is an app root.
I can login to my web site using the login page but the login when the app is running does not autheticate. But 2 local webservers start running the main website and the webservice that is a directory off of root the aforementioned AppServices.
What are the troubleshooting techniques here?
Is the port you want to use, already in use? (For example, 110 - POP3).
Is the port accessible through the firewall? [Start->Control Panel->Windows Firewall : Exceptions]
Have you tried setting the port number in IIS? [In properties-> configuration]
