MaxMind Creative Commons License - geoip

I have a question about the license of MaxMind GeoLite2 Free.
I just want to use the database to get the user country to show them some content filtered by country.
MaxMind site says this:
The attribution requirement may be met by including the following in
all advertising and documentation mentioning features of or use of
this database
I won't mention the database ever, it just a background process. Do I need to put the attribution link anyway?
Thank you.

You should include the attribution if you use it.

Can we modify an OpenCart extension and upload it?

I want to know if is it Ok to modify a free extension to support the newer version of opencart and upload it to extension directory for free or price?
If yes, can you please tell me what should I care about while doing this? Like giving credit to the author whose extension I modified?
I am not sure if asking this here is alright but I couldn't find anything about this so posted this question
Opencart is not like Wordpress, that the plugins published with a GPL license.
If you upload any extension like another first extension the most probably is that your account will be banned. If the author extension is not free, your account will be banned.
If the extension is free you can put the author credits in the documentation about your extension.
In my opinion if you want to upload a better version, you must talk with the first author. Send an email.
In any case, if you want to upload a FREE extension you only have to register here https://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=account/login
login up and follow the step, are very easy.
If you want to upload a NON free extension. you need a seller account
When your account are ok
Go here again, login https://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=account/login and then you will have to fill other form to change your acount to a seller acount.
Then you will have to wait 1 or 2 week to receipt and email to tell that your account it's right

How can I determine if I'm using a Sitecore development licence

I'm new to Sitecore and I'm need to check what sort of licence is currently in use.
I would have though the licence type would be mentioned in the licence xml file, or available through to the admin user interface..but apparently not.
What ideas on where this information is held, or how I can determine the licence type?
Top right of the Sitecore Login will show you who it is licensed to.
Another sign is the development license turns some parts of the Sitecore Login screen yellow
/sitecore/login
There are differences in licence.xml file for partner and for client, for example purpose element in licence.xlm file for partner starts with text: "The Sitecore partner {partnername} (“the Licensee”) is licensed" and for client starts with text: "The customer {customername} (“the Licensee”) is licensed".
Partner licence is used for development, and client licence should be used on production.
Client licence contains information about number of allowed installations.

Easy Way for Non-Nerd to Manage Simple Site?

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate question for StackOverflow. I have a friend show wants a simple "Brochure Ware" web site. I could make it for him but it would be better if he could manage it himself. Are there any services out there that allow a non-technical person to create and maintain a very simple site? I'm thinking just a few pages - contact, about, home with some photos and general info. He also wants to sell some stuff but I'm going to suggest he does this using EBay but the web site would be a handy reference for potential customers who want to know more about him and his services.
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
Mark
You are looking for a Content Management System (CMS).
You can build your own software, try something open-source, or go the easy way, and go with SaaS: software as a service. Something that fits your needs (based on what you told us), is something like Shopify. It manages your products, orders, but also has functionality to manage static pages.
agreed with the CMS comment #Phil Hunt
if you are a true non-nerd go for the 5 minute install of wordpress
so simple. Shopify plugin?

Checking a visitor's geographical location in a Django app

I am making a multilingual Django website. I want the site to check from which country the user is accessing the website, and according to that decide which language to use.
What would be a good tool to use for that?
When one of your regular users travels with his laptop to another country and access your site, can't understand a thing and can't change the language, that would suck.
I wouldn't recommend checking for the country (by IP probably). Instead go for the Accept-Language header the browser of the client sends. You should still leave the option to let the user change the language manually (and store the preference in the session for example).
Another option is going wikipedia style and setting the language by URL (en.example.com, de.example.com or example.com/en/, example.com/de/).
I had a similar problem on my site, and I used the MaxMind IP free database as a model and it's called as middleware.
So as the user goes to the site, the middleware detects his country by his IP and redirects him to the right language
There is more than one way to do this, but a good solution is to use a geotargeting suite. Depending on your budget, there are free and paid solutions. I've used Digital Element's product (NetAcuity) for this type of thing in the past, and their solutions are top-notch. They provide both a in house server solution (for high-performance applications. ~30k queries per second) and a web-service solution for more typical applications. They have API's in numerous languages including Python that you could use within Django. They will allow you to query for information such as geo location, primary and secondary language, connection-speed, etc. all based on the users IP address. Geo accuracy at the the country level is highly accurate based on my experience.
A free solution to also consider is MaxMind, though I'm not as familiar with their product.

Do the Amazon web service APIs support barcode/UPC queries?

I skimmed through their documentation and found it a bit overwhelming at first. I know you can search for items by entering a UPC (the number below a 1D barcode), but I couldn't find a word about it in the API.
What I want to do is perform a product lookup by doing a UPC search after scanning a barcode.
Here is a page from the https://webservices.amazon.com/paapi5/documentation/use-cases/search-with-external-identifiers.html which shows how you can use the ItemLookup method to find a specific product by UPC.
Note that default IdType for the ItemLookup is ASIN, but you can change it to something else like UPC if you need to
Be carefull if you want to use the Amazon web services API on a mobile device !
We've found this in the Amazon.com Product Advertising API License Agreement:
4) Usage Requirements
(e) You will not, without our express prior written approval, use
any Product Advertising Content on or in connection with any site or
application designed or intended for use with a mobile phone or
other handheld device, or any television set-top box ....

Any Ideas for an alternative ItemLookup method to find a specific product by UPC/Barcode ?
Yes sure, the Amazon web service APIs does support barcode/UPC queries. Any information / documentation are to be found here.
If you want to generate barcodes, maybe this helps?
Cheers, Tim
With IdType request parameters ( see documentation here ) not only for upc, but also support ean and isbn query
