I have following structure (inside static directory):

stylesheet.css opens correctly in browser (like mysite.com/static/css/stylesheet.css)
But eot file is processed by django.
Why?
All js and css files, as well as images open correctly.
Can you try with a different browser? Some browsers will work quirkily with font files.
If trying with other browsers doesn't do the trick,
Are you using the default web server? Have you tried running your site with Gunicorn web server (http://gunicorn.org/)? Its a very simple test to do.

I have a django server which is run by mod_wsgi and apache.
Today when I tried to update the css in one of my html pages, the css file was updated but apache was still showing the old css. I tried to rename the css file but it didn't work out.
What can I do ?

It sounds like the pages are being cached. Probably with browser caching. Try and clear your cache and/or open up your dev tools and go to network and disable caching.
I'm managing static files (JS, CSS, images, etc) in my Django application using staticfiles. This works fine, but I'd like to start dynamically serving pre-compressed sources when the user's browser is capable.
I went through the linked tutorial and, in production (on Apache) this works fine. I can include files using
<script src="/static/js/my-site"></script>
and it will load my-site.js in older browsers and my-site.js.gz when GZip encoding is supported. Great! But: this breaks local development using runserver. Of course, the staticfiles default view has no idea how to turn /js/my-site into /js/my-site.js (or .gz). To get runserver working, I need to specify the extension, which breaks content negotiation.
Is there a better way to configure Apache, so that I can always request .js (or .css, etc) and get served the compressed version transparently? Or can I tell Django how to find the requested resource without specifying an extension? I wouldn't think I'm the only one trying to do this...
there is no simple resolution. mostly because you are using something that was designed for the apache web server only (afaik).
i my opinion there are 3 solutions:
keep source .{js,css} files in separate directory, in development you can serve them from source dir or compressed one - simple, transparent and you can hide your uncompressed and non-obfuscated sources far from the reach
compress files with the .min.{js,css} ending - no need for separate directory, you can hide sources in apache (mod_rewrite)
write your own small middleware that will be simulating what apache does (it is few lines to select and rewrite path, you can even have different behavior depending on DEBUG config var)
use some dynamic solution e.g Django Compressor which will compile those files on-demand

I've been developing a site with sensitive (i.e. proprietary) code on my local machine, testing it using apache2, and I'm finally going to be getting it setup with a web host. I'm a bit wary because of the "Where should this code live?" note here in the Django Tutorial:

My host told me that I'll be given a /home/ directory, and that the site will live in /home/www. I'm trying to emulate this directory structure on my end before I send everything to him to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. My question is, if I want all my code to live outside of the /www directory (per the Django tutorial recommendation above), what actually goes inside the /www directory?
My development directory structure is basically this:

templates (contains my base.html, and custom templates for admin, etc.)
Where app1 and app2 are Django apps I've developed to plug into mysite. So what folders / files need to go in the home/www directory, and what can safely live in home/mycode?
Your static and media (user-uploaded) folders, robots.txt etc. should be in the www directory. Basically any file that is directly served by your webserver and not through Django. Other files should live outside of this directory.
Your webserver should point all requests that are not found in the www directory towards your wsgi application, which doesn't need the code to be accessible by an url.
The reason for this is that your webserver does not execute the code in a python file, in contrast to php files. If your code lived in your web root, people could read your settings files by just going to example.com/src/settings.py. Images, plain html/text files and javascript should be read, but any code that should be executed should live outside your web root. Django will execute the files and generate the response that a user should actually see.
I am using Django to create a small web app, however I do not know where i must put my HTML and JS files. I don't want to use the templateing system because I have no need to pass the values from Django directly to the HTML template, Instead the HTML will be static and I will fetch all the data necessary and send the data to be input back into the database using AJAX with Jquery.
My Question is where must I put my HTMl and JS files so they are accessible from the web browser and will be in the same directory so that I can send my ajax requests to something like
http://localhost:2000/webapp/RPC/updateitem/ (more stuff here)
and where the HTML files are
http://localhost:2000/webapp/index.html

You let your main webserver (the one you're running django on) deal with the static files. In most cases this means that you simly server the files through apache (or lighttpd or cherrypy or whatever). Django is only ment for the rendering of dynamic things and thus should not be used for serving static files.

I'm hosting a site on WebFaction using Django/mod_python/Python2.5. I've recently run into the concept of static files (when setting up my Django admin).
From what I understand, serving static files is simply the idea of telling the server to serve files directly from a specific directory, rather than first routing the request through apache, then mod_python, then django, and finally back to the user. In the case of WebFaction this helps especially since there are two Apache servers that your request must go through (your app's server and the main public server).
Why is it that when I setup Django's static files, it only needs the /media folder in /contrib/admin? Is it just that all of Django's static content is related to the admin panel?
When I want to serve my own static content (images, css, etc.) should I include it in the same /media folder or set up another alias for my own content (/my_media)?
Yes, the static files used by Django are pretty much related to images, javascript and css for the admin. All other static content comes from your application. You can keep both sets (yours and the admin) under the same server. Just set the appropriate folders in the settings file.

Django's static files (e.g. js, css, images, etc.) are all in the media folder, and are related to the admin panel.
On WebFaction to save processing power, and more importantly memory, it is better to serve these from your secondary apache server (or even better from nginx or lighttpd) without having to go through mod_python and Django.
