You're missing www in your regex
The second \. should optional if you want to match both youtu.be and youtube (but I didn't change this since just youtube isn't actually a valid domain - see note below)
+ in your regex allows for one or more of (youtube\.com|youtu\.be), not one or more wild-cards.
You need to use a . to indicate a wild-card, and + to indicate you want one or more of them.

I know I'm like 2 years late to the party, but I was needing to write something up anyway, and seems to fit every test case that I can throw at it. Should be able to reference the first match ($1) to get the ID. Matches the http, https, www and non-www, youtube.com, youtu.be, /watch? and /watch.php? on youtube.com (youtu.be does not use these), and it supports matching even when there are other variables in the URL string (?t= for time, ?list= for playlists, etc).

I took one of the answers from here and added support for a few edge cases that I noticed in my dataset. This should work for pretty much any valid url.

The following Regex match all the url start with "r" then followed by anything else without limiting number of character then followed by "sn" then followed by any number of characters then end with ".googlevideo.com" the expression was anchor with ^ and $.
I try it on my pihole with great success but have to remove it later. all r....sn...googlevideo.com was blocked in the query list but it also rendered my smart tv youtube app broken. It will not play any video at all unless I remove it from pihole. use it at your own risk.

The post is a bit older but because I tried myself with regexes I just want to say that your regexes can't work because of one "little" point.
Pi-Hole uses the POSIX ERE (POSIX Extended Regular Expressions) standard.
So there are no lazy quantifiers or shorthand character classes.
It also does not support non-capturing groups like in your third and fourth line.
You can check such regexes in tools like RegexBuddy. Maybe other free tools can check it too and help to convert it.
My current regex is:

It correctly blocks all ads BUT also videos.
If you use it you have to do the following.
Open a youtube video and check if the video loads.
If not, go to your pi hole dashboard to the query log.
For your device you will have two dns queries
r5---sn-4g5e6nze.googlevideo.com
and
r5---sn-4g5ednse.googlevideo.com
The last one (upper) in the query log is the video. So whitelist
the dns. You have to do it sometimes.

Im trying to build a regular expression to capture URLs which contain a certain parameter 7136D38A-AA70-434E-A705-0F5C6D072A3B
Ive set up a simple regex to capture a URL with anything before and anything after this parameter (just just all URLs which contain this parameter). Ive tested this on an online checker: http://scriptular.com/ and seems to work fine. However google analytics is saying this is invalid when i try to use it. Any idea what is causing this?
Url will be in the format
/home/index?x=23908123890123&y=kjdfhjhsfd&z=7136D38A-AA70-434E-A705-0F5C6D072A3B&p=kljdaslkjasd
so i just want to capture URLs that contain that specific "z" parameter.

Your regex is invalid because GA regex flavor does not support look-arounds (and you have a (?=...) positive look-ahead in yours).

Currently on my GA Account I have the following URL's from our website tracked:

I tried using a regex filter on this as the following:

Reading up, I believe this looks for matches of exactly:
/contact-us/global-contact-list or /contact us/ but would disallow /contact-us/contactlist/
for some reason, the above one is still coming through. Can someone please see as to why this may be happening or know why this is happening?
You need to add a negative look-behind or a end of string anchor:
(^/contact-us/global-contact-list\.aspx)|(^/contact-us/$)
or
(^/contact-us/global-contact-list\.aspx)|(^/contact-us/(?!contactlist/))
This way, you will exclude /contact-us/contactlist/ from matching.

BTW, /contact us/ will not pass since (^/contact-us/) only allows a hyphen. You should add a space, e.g. (^/contact-us/global-contact-list\.aspx)|(^/contact[-\s]us/$).
Also, (^/contact-us/global-contact-list\.aspx) won't match /contact-us/global-contact-list because it needs to match .aspx.
I'm setting up URL Rewrite on an IIS and i need to match the following URLs using regex.
http://sub.mysite.com
sub.mysite.com
sub.mysite.com/
sub.mysite.com/Site1
sub.mysite.com/Site1/admin
but not:
sub.mysite.com/admin
sub.mysite.com/admin/somethingelse
sub.mysite.com/admin/admin
The site it self (sub.mysite.com) should not be "hardcoded" in the expression. Instead, it should be matched by something like .*.
I'm really blank on this one. I did find solutions to match the different URLs but once i try to combine them either none of them match or all of them do.
I hope someone can help me.
For your specific case, assuming you are matching the part after the domain (REQUEST_URI):
(?!/admin).*
(?!...) is a negative lookahead. I am not sure if it is supported in the IIS URL Rewrite engine. If not, a better approach would be to check for a complementary approach:
Or as #kirilloid said, just match /admin/? and discard (pay attention to slashes).

I found an updated version of John Gruber's regex for url matching in this post by user GianPac, which states it's been adapted to recognize url without protocol or the www part:

Whilst this works in most cases, I found it does not match "google.com". It does match "google.comm" and "google.co.uk", so this must be a small oversight.
The trouble is, I literally hate regex. It's the bane of my life. I just want to try and tweak this one more time to allow for "google.com" - can anyone throw me a pointer? I (think) it's something to do with this part of the code:

It's still completely incomprehensible though, and I'm not sure I'd trust a regex url checker that doesn't match google.com to begin with! Most languages have something built in for parsing URLs, that's a better option if possible anyway.
