Building VC++ 6 project from TeamCity. Can't find header files - c++

I have a VC++ project and I have got the .dsw file. I want to build the project through TeamCity and obtain the .dll file.
In the TeamCity, In Build Steps I have given the Runner type as Command Line and passing in the following parameters.
Myproject.dsw /MAKE "Myproject - Win32 Release MinSize"
It creates empty output directories and all but I get this error
fatal error RC1015: cannot open include file 'afxres.h'
I have checked that the file is located at 'C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\MFC\Include'.
I don't understand why it is not picking up the file from this location. I tried adding this location to Environment Variable PATH, but it does not work.
The TeamCity picks up few files from 'C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\Include' though.
Please help.

I some how figured out the solution for this.
The TeamCity Agent runs as a windows service. So, it can not access the User environment variable for e.g. %include% and %lib%.
What I did is, I passed these two variables as environment variables to TeamCity Build. And voila!!! It works. :)

Qt C++ Application deployment problems, used Visual Studio 2019 to create it

I just Build my Project and now when i click the executable file (.exe), i gives errors that some .dll files are missing, so i referred this page https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/windows-deployment.html which says that i can use Windows Deployment Tool, which is found in QTDIR/bin/windeployqt folder directory, but when i go to the path in the image c\Qt\5.14.1
i see that i have all these folders and all of them have bin folders, so to solve this i i went into visual studio , Extensions->QT VS Tools-> Qt options and this thing shows up ,where i got to know the version i am using
so, i opened command prompt and did this
After that, in my applications .exe folder, i see some more .dll files being added, but still i get the same errors
missing Qt5Widgets.dll,Qt5Core.dll,Qt5Gui.dll, i have all of those but the name ends with d, should i try renaming them ?
I have solved this by placing qt.conf file in my application's .exe folder

Prefix=C:\Qt\5.14.1\msvc2017_64
Defining Prefix in your qt.conf file allows it to find the qwindows.dll platform plugin when your app starts.

Visual Studio build debug target .exe file-name mismatch

I am trying to build and run one demo in Visual Studio 2017.
But with compilation, the debug mode target gets the name with 'D' suffix instead of without it. (Specifically PDIconsoleD.exe instead of PDIconsole.exe) But when trying to run project already built project, it cannot find the file, because it looks for the name without this suffix (PDIconsole.exe).
I tried to run the file from the file browser, it got error, that I would like to debug.

Go to your project properties and check what is target name on different configurations. It might be that on debug mode it is changed to add suffig of 'D' so just delete that so it will be the same name for debug and release.

Referencing external dll in Visual Studio 2015 [duplicate]

I developed an application that depends on a DLL file. When I debug my application, the applicationwould complain that:
"This application has failed to start because xxx.dll was not found."
So I have to copy the DLL file into the same directory as my .vcproj file.
Is there a way to set the project to look for the DLL file in (preferably) some relative path or (not preferred) some absolute path?
Similar concept to how we set include and library path in the project settings.
I mean when I debug my application (hitting F5) the above error would pop up.
Go to project properties (Alt+F7)
Under Debugging, look to the right
There's an Environment field.
Add your relative path there (relative to vcproj folder) i.e. ..\some-framework\lib by appending PATH=%PATH%;$(ProjectDir)\some-framework\lib or prepending to the path PATH=C:\some-framework\lib;%PATH%
Hit F5 (debug) again and it should work.
Go through project properties -> Reference Paths
Then add folder with DLL's
The search path that the loader uses when you call LoadLibrary() can be altered by using the SetDllDirectory() function. So you could just call this and add the path to your dependency before you load it.

Another possibility would be to set the Working Directory under the debugging options to be the directory that has that DLL.
Edit: I was going to mention using a batch file to start Visual Studio (and set the PATH variable in the batch file). So then did a bit of searching and see that this exact same question was asked not long ago in this post. The answer suggests the batch file option as well as project settings that apparently may do the job (I did not test it).
In your Project properties(Right click on project, click on property button) ▶ Configuration Properties ▶ Build Events ▶ Post Build Events ▶ Command Line.
Edit and add one instruction to command line.
for example copy botan.dll from source path to location where is being executed the program.
copy /Y "$(SolutionDir)ProjectDirs\x64\Botan\lib\botan.dll" "$(TargetDir)"

One of my dll-s was written in c++ and it turnes out that if your visual studio doesn't know how to open a dll file it will say that it did not find it. What i did was locate which dll it did not find, than searched for that dll in my directories and opened it in a separate visual studio window. When trying to navigate through Solution explorer of that project, visual studio said that it cannot show what is inside and that i need some extra extensions, so that it can open those files. Surely enough, after installing the recomended extension (in my case something to do with c++) the

error miraculously dissapeared.
I know this question had been answered years ago, but for those like me who needed to change where the debugger starts the application, change the command property under Project Properties -> Debugging.

visual studio 2013 deploy a project

I crack my head already, I need to deploy a project. I tried to use InstallShield, it create an msi file, and local installation has no errors, but then when I tried to launch the program it output "debug error". In my settings code generator -> runtime library set for Multi-threaded Debug DLL(/MDd). If I'll set it to Multi-threaded (/MT) it would not compile: "Please use the /MD switch for _AFXDLL builds"
Then I tried to use VS Installer project extension. It creates the msi and setup file, but after I install it, I can't find the .exe file and launch program. What I am doing wrong?

At the stage of creating the installer for your program, you have to put all the external files, libraries and resources, that your program needs in order to run correctly, in your program's working directory. When you run the program via Visual Studio, everything works fine since it can find the files, because, as you've mentioned, they are in the project folder, and the project folder is where Visual Studio is looking for them.
When you launch your program outside VS, the program can't find these files since it by default tries to locate them in the folder in which the .exe file being run is located. So, if you wan't to run program outside VS, you need to put all the files needed to your .exe's directory.
For the same reason, while creating your installer, you need to include all the files necessary in the installation target directory together with your .exe. Every installer creator lets you do that.
In general, if you cannot run your program outside any IDE, and you can run it within that IDE, it is a rule of thumb that you should first check if you have included all the necessary files/libraries/dll's/etc. in your program's working directory.
I solved it!!!!!!!!
1)Help to run .exe file, helped updating .uld file in the same directory as a exe file.
2)I used Dependency Walker (http://www.dependencywalker.com/) to find all dll that it's need. And then I create a Setup Project using Wizard at the "Choose file to include" step I add every file and every library that it's depend on! Build->Install-> Then magic, and my application installed and running! Thank you all for your help
