I want to create a simple registration form as one of the pages in my Joomla 2.5 website.
Every where on the internet, I see people asking me to use an extension like proforms, ckforms etc.. Most of the have price tags on them and the free ones do not have database and I don't really want a lot of functionality.
I just want the following code to work. So that I can pull the POST variable and insert them in a db.
<form method="post" action="mycreatedpage.php">
<input type="text"/>
<input type="submit">
</form>
Is this not possible in Joomla 2.5?
After a bit more searching, I realized that what I really needed was an ability to make PHP run inside the article. Thanks to a video.
Answer :
Install Sourcerer to enable PHP inside joomla articles
Create an article which take in the POST variable and insert into the database. This is the tricky part. What I did here was take the general PHP code which I would have written in register_do.php and insert it using the Sourcerer plugin.
Now create an menu Item which points to the above article. Save the menu item and copy the alias. This alias will be the action for the form.
From here on on, everything must work fine.

When you post a form, you have to have some code to handle the form input and what to do with it. So your options are to write a component to handle that form input or to use a form component that does it for you. If you write your own there is a lot to consider unless you want to open up gaping security holes in your website.
There are plenty of free forms components available. If you want free, I would recommend Chronoforms, if you don't mind paying small fee then RS Forms.

I am learning Django and i learn on making small project for lEARNING PURPOSE.
I learned how work with input and use as variable. Now i want to use search box with the same principle.
Please see the link of input based :
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58813945/changing-form-to-search-box
index.html is the input after inserting info and clicking ok it directs to index2.html which shows the results
What I need to change besides POST to GET to make it work as it works with input function? do i need to change form, models?
My concern also i want to inset search bar in the navigation in index2.html where user can make search from the result page. This is my index2.html page. I tried to put {{form.as_p }} inside the form function but it does not work. I want after putting infro in search box and clicking search glyphicon (which does not work) will stay on the same page index2.html
I searched the internet and read stackoverflow other examples, but they use complicated version, i need a simple one :
1. i want to have search box on index.html page so it does not show me the name in front of input box and
2. i want search box in the index2.html page keep implementing the same function as index.html so a user do not have to go the initial page to search new data.
Any help or tips would be highly appreciated.
Since you're using bootstrap4 I would recommend to use its template tags and form field customization options.
Example:
{% bootstrap_field form.login show_label=False addon_before='<span class="fa fa-user"></span>' %}
Not: this example uses Font Aweseome for icons.
Also you're not using the real power of Django Bootstrap4, see Quickstart. You can always override the version of Booststrap or the CDN used in your settings.py if needed: Settings.
I am a bit confused on the best way to handle this problem:
My web site needs read-only static web pages (typically the About part of a web site) with 2 simple constraints:
they need to be translated
they need to have flexible layout: to incorporate base headers/footers, floating images and/or tables, and non-interactive elements (like a bootstrap carousel).
Several solutions that I have thought about:
I can of course directly write HTML files but the translation part will be awkward (a lot of <h1>, <ul>, <li> and <p> which are of no interest to the translator).
I can use Django flatpages with some markup languages but I lose a lot of flexibility (for instance template tags are not recognized)
Use generators like Hyde, but it seems quite overkill for my needs and internationalization seems a bit difficult
Does someone have other propositions that I can look into ?
Thanks !
Use django-cms, it has a Page model that can be translated and has a very smart plugin system to add many content-types into every page.
I use it a lot and it's very easy and yet powerful
For completeness and fairness, here's a full list of available CMS packages for Django.
for a much simpler solution, I would create a model called "Page" with lets say title and text fields.
The title and the text fields I would register to django-modeltranslation which will handle the translation issue.
For the text field i would use TinyMCE which let you insert basically any HTML you want so you can do whatever you need.
I'm new to python and the Django framework. I am dealing with lots of forms in my application which is half way developed by the person working in this position earlier. I now need to change the form to incorporate the "Add additional details" button to my existing form.
Can anyone help me out with this? Do let me know in case you need any additional information from my end.
I suggest you read the Forms documentation: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/forms/?from=olddocs
I don't really understand what you mean by "Add additional details". I'm assuming you want to just add additional items to your form.py of your app, be it model data? Again read the doc's they really helped me.
Is the form using an (inline) formset?
You need to use javascript or jQuery to insert a new set of fields into the web page. The formset management values need to be updated as well.

I'm looking at porting a custom-written PHP CMS into Django. One of the features the CMS currently has is an image upload function. I write an article, tag it with information, then choose a photo for it. If the system has any photos which have been added to articles with tags in common with the new one, it will suggest the photo for that article too. If there are no matches then a new image can be added.
In case this doesn't make sense, let's say I tag an article as Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Next time I add an article with the tag The Beatles, it should suggest I use the image added for the first article.
What would be the best Django-applicable way to implement this? I've looked at the Photologue app and have integrated it, and I know it has tagging support (the problem here is that I'm using django-taggit, whereas Photologue supports django-tagging). One approach could be simply building it myself -- when a user uploads an article, I run a hook after they save it to associate the tags with the image. I'm just not sure how to then autosuggest an image in the admin tools based on that info.
Any ideas/approaches greatly appreciated.
This is almost certainly something you're going to have to build yourself. Django has a moderate number of libraries out there (that you've clearly already found). Unlike other solutions, it doesn't have a lot of things that get you 100% to your desired solution (whereas something like Drupal might get you 100% of the way there).
What you will probably need to do (at a high level) is something like this:
Create an AJAX view that takes the current tags as an argument and does a query on the existing posts to see what tags match and returns images from those posts.
Use jQuery/javascript on your view to call your AJAX view on the page as tags are added
Use jQuery to update a <div> on your page and show all the images that your view returned
Here is a similar example that might help get you started.
You might look into django-ajax as a helper library for your requests, but it definitely isn't necessary.
The hook between the your image module and any other django module can be implemented using django's contenttypes framework which also provides some useful instance methods for returning related/hooked objects.
I wonder if Django native support changes in DOM. I don't know if it is correct name for it now so I guess I explain it instead. For example if I make an e-shop site with django. I want when I click on a product it should add to the basket, which is in html maybe looks something like this. So for each product I add a new <li></li> is added dynamically. Can I do that with django. Or do I have to use Javascript for it?
<div id="basket">
<ul>
<li>
// some product
</li>
</ul>
</div>
It depends.
1) You may want to make you app very dynamic, so another element apears in your basket without page reload. This will be done by combining ajax requests (your server needs to know what you have in basket) with DOM manipulation (purely JavaScript);
2) You can use more classical approach. Adding element to basket is just a POST request. Django handles the request (stores in session or somewhere else current basket) and generates new HTML for you.
Imho, the first approach is a way faster and it looks better for the end-user. The downside is that you may loose track of some valuable information which automatically updates when user reloads entire page (like for example the price of an item). But this should not be a problem if we're talking about store. After all how often product data changes?
Django does not natively generate javascript for you. The usual way is to import your javascript into your pages in your templates.
