I have a webpage that need to access webservice at other domain. Due to cross domain policy in browser, I create a server side service as a proxy. I'm using server side HttpWebRequest (.net) to call a web service that require authentication and return the json to the javascript. However, i faced few issues :
I'm currently hardcode the username and password because HttpWebRequest seems to have no function to allow me to prompt for username and password. There is no popup dialog for login. So, can I force the HttpWebRequest to prompt for username and password just like the XMLHttpRequest (javascipt version) do?
Due to the 1st issue, i noticed that i might need to create a dummy login page that get username and pwd and then send request to the web service. if it success, then it means the login credential is correct. However, right after this, i still have alot of other request to the webservice. The cookie of the HttpWebRequest seems to last only for that request call only. It is not stored inside the normal local cookie storage. (I check the browser and dont find it). How can I store the cookies inside the CookieContainer to the HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies so that i dont need to login again. I dont want to handle every request call by attaching the CookieContainer because there's a lot of request.

Hope you are doing good. i am new to Django so basically i want an idea of how we can access page that required login but i want one time login not every time.or just by pass this authentication by any mean i don't know?
i-e: i have chat bot i want to give that page specific url to some client and that client add that url in his website so his clients just use my chatbot by click my chatbot url that are present in my client website.but i want that by clicking that url does not require to login first but i want the secure access only that client domain only access my url . not other domain or from chrome brower.

i used django-cors but i dont know that using cors will restrict access to other domain accept the allowed one?
i experence from cors-test websites i just send post request but cannot access my site when i allowed that domain in cors then they can get post response .
so basically when i search that url from chrome on same LAN ( by using ngrok to make local server global ) we can access pages but cannot make post request. i had added ngrok url in not allowed domain in cors. so this confused me.
the chatbot url page has login so how we by pass the login required by any method for every client that click from my client website so they can easly access my chatbot??
I have a server side application that uses cookies for session management. The browser has some script that sends an ajax request to add information to the session. This is working well and in production.
The business wants to be able to insert this application in other companies' websites via iframes. ie myapp.com is in an iframe in otherbusiness.com and when the user clicks a button in the application in the iframe launched from myapp.com, it sends a request with a cookie that contains the session id to update the user's session on the myapp.com server.
For the browser to be able to send a cookie, 3rd party cookies needs to be enabled by setting the cookie options of SameSite=None and Secure. This works for all browsers except Safari.
Safari no longer accepts 3rd party cookies.
The only solution I can come up with is to use session ids in the URL but this is a little cumbersome.
Can anyone suggest a better option or perhaps a good implementation of session ids in the url?
I used hidden html fields to pass the session id and expiration.
My server side code checks for a cookie if it cannot find it, looks for the session id and expiration in the hidden fields.
This avoids security issues with passing the id in the url. It is a little clumsy to implement but it works.

How to do login and logout using mysql and rest webservice and maintain session of perticular user on every page like traditional webapplication(get username on every page).

you can do in below way.
create session table contains column [id, token, userid, loggedintime]
on login call a rest like /rest/user/login?username=uname&password=pwd
which return a token to user. maintain that token at client side. you may use cookie or sessionstorage whichever supported by mobile device.
now create one Filter with path /* so each request pass through it, and in filter check that the users token is valid or not, if not than redirect to login. you can explicitly pass that token to server in queryparam or pathparam.
on logout delete entry from session table, and redirect user to login page again.
there are many way to do this thing but this is a simpler way.
It's simple, you store the username and password in your client and send them with every request. (On the server side you can have an (username, password) -> (identity, permissions) in-memory cache which can make things faster.) You need a secure connection: HTTPS. Without that you won't do REST auth.
Login is simple you show a prompt to the user, in which she can give the username and password, so you can store them in the memory of the client. By logout you can simply close the client (by browsers navigate away), or remove the username and password from the memory of it. (It is not secure to permanently store the username and password without proper encryption on the client side.)

Recently, I've been experimenting with the Microsoft Sync Toolkit to synchronize databases over a OData web service.
The obvious question here is: Once the service is set up and published - so it is open for anyone knowing the URL - how to prevent unauthorized users from accessing this service.
Please note: Basic authentication of forms authentication - as far my little web development knowledge reaches - doesn't seem to be appropriate for this task, as it's not a web page that the client is trying to reach - where the page can display / or re-direct a logon request - it's a service that we are accessing here.
To make things more difficult, for the client-side syncing I'm using a 3rd party library/sync-provider that only accepts a URL for the service. So, there's no way (I think) I can experiment with incorporating login credentials inside a request header etc.
I assume the best bet would be embedding the login credentials inside the URL and use that for the 3rd party library.
Can somebody please direct me how to to set up such thing on the server? I would prefer to have somehow somewhere in the server-side code a place where I can check for the credentials and based upon it to proceed or abort (return 401) the service request.
I could not find any place where to hook such code into the sync service. Although somebody in MSDN suggested to handle the _OnBeginSyncRequest event, there is no way to access the web-request header from within that method.
Is there by-any-chance a global object accessible from everywhere from which I can access the request header? Could anyone please help with this?
And last, I would prefer a plain User / Password string pair. It should not necessarily (or rather not) have anything to do with windows or directory accounts. I would prefer in my code to simple check against plain strings, such if(userStr == "Authenticated user" && passwordStr == "Correct Password").
if you are using SOAP web service, you can use WS-Security usernametoken which adds your user name and password to the request header, otherwise you can add username and password as parameters in your webservice and then simply validate it on the server side. i.e.
instead of
bool SyncData(datatable)
it becomes
bool SyncData(datatable, username, password)
note for web service you will authenticate per call, if you want to do it per session, you need first login with username password, retrieves a token than on each subsequent call your service with the token.
You would also use SSL to secure the channel so username and password aren't transmitted as plain text.
I'm writing an Android app which will authenticate itself using OAuth2 to a Web server under my control.
I'm using Apache Amber on the client side, and oauth2app with Django on the server side.
From the client, I can generate an authorization request, and start a browser Activity that goes to a page asking whether to allow the client access, and after answering in the affirmative, redirects to a page with a "code" parameter.
But how do I get the "code" back to my client, in order to make the subsequent access_token request?
Do I need to bypass the browser entirely? How would that work?
I believe you have a couple of choices here.
The redirect_uri parameter will indicate to the server where it should send the code.
From the ouath2app docs:
If a request is authorized, Authorizer:grant_response() will serialize an object into a JSON response will return a redirect response to the client’s redirect_uri with information on the authorization code passed as query string parameters (response_type CODE) or access token passed as URI fragments.
So armed with that:
If that value is a location on your server, then your mobile browser is going to get the value as part of the redirect. Specifically, you're trying to read the URI fragments in the redirect. I believe this is the intended usage for an application like yours. This blog post seems to have code that might be relevant, under the section "Retrieving the access token".
Alternatively, as you pointed out, you could send the token to a different handler on your server, and then pass it back to your client. It must the callback URL defined in the service.

The trick is to fire up a new Activity whose content is provided by a WebView (rather than a layout). You can attach a handler to the WebView that's called on the redirect to the page containing the "code" parameter.
Some of the specifics in the blog post concern Google APIs, but so far my experiments suggest that it will work in my situation.
