I checked out the protobuf repository, built with a custom prefix and installed, then copy&pasted the Person example from Google and compiled with protoc. That was OK.
But when I include Person.pb.h in my CPP file, I get:
/home/name/usr/include/google/protobuf/repeated_field.h:53:47: fatal error:
google/protobuf/stubs/type_traits.h: No such file or directory
That file was not installed. Is it a bug?

I've I'm trying to build this "Hello World" wxWidgets example on Linux, using the following cmake script:
cmake_minimum_required (VERSION 2.6)

Building the project yields this error:
src/wxL.cpp:3:10: fatal error: wx/wxprec.h: No such file or directory
The file specified in the include, wx/wxprec.h can be found on disk at this location:
/usr/include/wx-3.0/wx/wxprec.h
Furthermore, another program that I have built from source includes the same file (also using cmake) and builds just fine.
So, how do I use cmake to tell the compiler that the file should be included from somewhere in the system directories?
I know I'm missing something basic, but I can't figure out what.
Although you've found the package, your executable does not know anything about it.
For the executable to compile correctly, it needs to find header files for your package together with the .so / .a files. Following example should get you started:
include_directories(${wxWidgets_INCLUDE_DIRS})
add_executable(wxL <add-source-files-here>)
target_link_libraries(wxL ${wxWidgets_LIBRARIES}) // links wxWidgets libraries to your executable
Please note that using glob is not a recommended way of adding source files to your project.

Pugixml is a dependency
I have built pugixml from source and set PugiXML_DIR and PUGIXML_INCLUDE_DIR And it still gives me error: "CMake Error: The following variables are used in this project, but they are set to NOTFOUND."
Things I have tried:
I am doing this on windows, using cmake 3.14 and visual studio 2017.
I have successfully built pugixml from source and included the .lib file as well
I have tried including and excluding combinations of PUGIXML_INCLUDE_DIR, PUGIXML_LIBRARY, PugiXML_DIR.
This is the error I get:

Other information: setting PugiXML_DIR is mandatory, and the cmake looks for a file named "pugixml-config.cmake" in that directory. And the config cmake file is supposed to point to compiled lib file. But when it wasn't able to find, I simply copied the lib file I compiled to the location pugixml-config.cmake was pointing.
In ASAP versions before 4.04.2019 they play dirty games with extracting include directory from the IMPORTED target. annotation/CMakeLists.txt:30:
get_target_property(PUGIXML_INCLUDE_DIR pugixml INTERFACE_INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES)
In some cases this results in setting PUGIXML_INCLUDE_DIR variable to "-NOTFOUND", thus you got corresponded error message from CMake.
In commit 36d8bd75 they add FindPugiXML.cmake script, which handle find_package(PugiXML) call instead of configuration script shipped with PugiXML. In that find script they obtain include directory with find_path, which looks more natually:
find_path(PugiXML_INCLUDE_DIR pugixml.hpp)
Because in newer ASAP versions the configuration script (pugixml-config.cmake), shipped with PugiXML, is no longer used, one cannot hint about PugiXML location with PugiXML_DIR or PugiXML_ROOT. In case PugiXML is installed into non-system-default location, one may simply set PugiXML_INCLUDE_DIR variable to the PugiXML include directory.
When I try to compile my Fibonacci.cpp file I get this from the compiler:
$ g++ Fibonacci.cpp

I've downloaded the gcc-g++: GNU Compiler Collection (C++) library and it's not working. Am I missing another library?
You need to install the libcloog-isl4 package when you run the setup.exe. You are missing that file in your C:/cygwin64/bin directory. I had the same problem and I was also missing cygisl-10.dll and I had to install libisl10 package.
See this cannot compile anything with gcc on cygwin32; missing cygisl-10.dll.
Unfortunately I'm getting a different error now that I solved that, so I'm not guaranteeing a fix.

I am trying to build OpenCV 2.3.0 with FFMPEG enabled. Since Ubuntu 11.10 only supplies libavcodec/format with version 0.7 and the ticket #1020(link below) indicates that it should work with 0.8.
If I try to compile I get the following error:

This file lives in /opt/linux64-debug/include/ffmpeg/libavformat/avformat.h. I tried pointing make at that with CMAKE_INCLUDE_{DIRECTORY,PATH}, CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH and CMAKE_LIBRARY_PATH. None of that worked. ( I always used the path /opt/linux64-debug/include/ffmpeg.)

Try the include_directories() command. In my CMakeLists.txt file, I use it like this:
include_directories(. /opt/special/headers/in/here)
add_executable(helloworld helloworld.c)
I have never had any problems with it.
