Someone built an app for the organization I work for but no one can remember who it was and we need to make changes to the app. The only information we have is the API key. We've tried navigating to the apps page by adding the key at the of http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=XXXX but we're redirected back to our website. Is there a way we could figure out who administers the app? Maybe using Graph API?
I'm almost positive you can not use that. I would navigate to the app itself, and on the bottom of the page inside on the right side, for "ctrl+f" for find, and click "Report/Contact this App" and then send a message to the developer.

I'm currently researching on how to use facebook API and collect its data thru streamsets and store it to S3. But facebook requires developer to create an app and verify it which somehow not applicable to what I'm doing right now. Is there other way to do this? like different process to access the Facebook API without creating an App?
While I'm happy to stand to be corrected, I do not believe this can be done.
It's not like you have to actually MAKE an app with your "app" - the app is simply an API key that has some associated data with it like titles and URLs and such. This also helps them track your usage and make sure you're following the rules, and block your key if you don't.
Currently I am working on an WebApp with Ember.JS. Now I want my customers to log in with their Twitter account using OAuth but I don't want my App to reload when they do.
So my idea was to have the login button open an popup to the Twitter authentication page which redirects to my page which has some JS based on the result e.g
window.opener.success(userdata);
and
window.opener.failure(error);
But since it first redirects to Twitter (the popup) browsers remove the window.opener properties to prevent cross site scripting even though it does redirect back to my own domain (where the JS code is).
Is there another way to go about this?
edit: I could user postMessage, but this doesn't work in IE8/IE9 in a popup. Only in an iFrame.
Yes, you have the same idea as some other programmers at Vestorly; they made a social authentication plugin called Torii I would recommend this as they have probably also taken care of all your obvious security concerns.
The start-up i currently work for is oriented around restaurant wait times. For our v1.25 specifications our clients -restaurants- that have Facebook pages want to be able to communicate to their app profile from their Facebook page.
The closest i have came to answering this question is the Graph API. However, the Graph API only allows us to read and write data to FB pages. So, is there a way for a restaurants FB page to write to its app profile? Secondly, Loso, whom we have modeled some of our designs from has this ability, does anyone have an idea as to how they have done it?

Here is an option that you can consider...
When you are designing the app you can also develop a page tab to go with it...
You will find this option in the basic settings of the app.
You can make it to install for all first time users of your app, by getting a list of all his pages he created using that profile then install it on the one he selects.
This page tab when installed on a page will appears just where other tabs on the page appers(e.g. events, notes etc. occurs)
You can provide your required functionality on this tab as you like.
Thus the user can just select that tab on the page and use its functionality to post on the profile page of the app.
Hope this works for you... and also u can check out the jobcaster app it does something like that!
I am searching for an automated mechanism to create a facebook app from my java program/servlet.
Usually, I have to go to developers.facebok.com, then click the "Apps" link at the top, then hit the "Create new App" button and create an app by providing the site url etc.
I am having a requirement where a user enters his facebook id in my site and hits the "Create App" button. My site will authenticate with facebook using OAuth 2.0 and will have to create an app in the users account. The app generally points to the user's profile page of my site.
Is it possible to do this? Can any one help me?
Thank you all in advance.
In short, no you can't. You have to verify that you are a human when you create an app, and facebook intentionally do not provide a way to programmatically create apps.
I recently put a django project of mine into its beta stages and would really like to integrate more with social media, particularly facebook.
Now there are so many facebook integrations out there... I don't know where to start but, I'll tell you what I am after.
My sites publishes content with photos and also user related data (which site doesn't)
on each individual page I already have a facebook like button that basically has the absolute url of that page
so for instance:
http://my-site.com/url-1
http://my-site.com/url-345345
http://my-site.com/url-456456456
When a user likes this particular url I would like them to become a Fan on my facebook site/page as well.
I also added the FB opengraph tool which is a bit more informative once a user likes it. But it still does not publish any statistics to my page.
Can someone give me a bit of an understanding on what the best option is for this type of integration?
As a security option for the user, Facebook has never allowed third party access to "become a fan."
If you want to record locally when someone presses the "Like" button, you'll have to implement it locally (copy the presentation, and query Facebook yourself), so you can intercept the event. I've done that; it's not too hard.
I suggest you review the Connect Terms of Service to see what it is you're allowed to do: http://developers.facebook.com/policy/
