ERROR LNK1104 - .`obj` file without any file name - c++

I am trying to compile a project where i am getting this error. I am very new to c++ and dont know much about VC++. And the most irritating part is that the error does not mention a name to the .obj file!!! Here is the whole error [copied from Error List] :
Error 1 error LNK1104: cannot open file '.\Debug\.obj' E:\7zsrc\CPP\7zip\Bundles\Format7zF\LINK 7z
To be more specific, I am compiling the Format7zF bundle included with 7z source version 9.22ß. I have already tried most of the solutions out there but most times either the the problem is different or the solution does not work.
Any help would be great!

I just noticed [from the .log file] that at the end of the linker Debug\\.obj was added! Hope this explains the problem more!

I have just converted the source files from VC++6 to VC++12 and changed the Output File Path in linker to inherit from..., nothing else.

I had same problem, when I converted the 'QUAKE' project from VC6 to VS2010.
I solved it by changing setting of '.s' files (asm code file).
Check [Properties/Configuaration Properties/Custom Build Setup/General/Outputs]
and there are "$(InputName).obj" macro, then try to change it as "%(Filename).obj".

I get this error while compiling a c++ program in sublime-text 3.
How to resolve this error?
In my case, this problem is due to #include<bits/stdc++.h>. Comment this line and get #include <iostream> to solve the problem.
If you have precompiled <stdc++.h> then you have stdc++.h.gch file in this path (path could be different on basis of where you installed MinGW and version) :
C:\MinGW\lib\gcc\mingw32\9.2.0\include\c++\mingw32\bits
So to solve this problem delete stdc++.h.gch file and paste these two commands in your terminal :
Go to the path having your precompiled header in command line
cd C:\MinGW\lib\gcc\mingw32\9.2.0\include\c++\mingw32\bits
Precompile header (mine version is c++17)
g++ -std=c++17 stdc++.h
I have found this solution on a codechef discussion and it works for me.
I got this problem after installing CodeBlocks, maybe it is because of codeblocks MINGW settings. My initial MinGW is from DEV-C++.
So what I did is this.
1.Delete "C:\...\GnuWin" from PATH.
2.Ensure that you have your old path to your compiler. In my case it was "C:\...\DevCPP\Mingw\bin"
For me, this error popped up right after I updated my SublimeText application to the latest version, so just restarting the system worked for me!
I'm not sure what caused this problem today, but I have seen it a few times before.
For me, a full clean and recompile solves it.
I got this same problem after pre-compiling the stdc++.h file, to get rid of this error, I removed the compiled version of this header that is stdc++.gch.
File path of stdc++.h and stdc++.gch is
C:\Users\UserName\Downloads\MinGW\include\c++\9.2.0\x86_64-w64-mingw32\bits

why i am receiving cant open file 'opencv_core2411d.obj'

I am tryin to use openCV-2.4.11 library in visual studio 2013, to do so i followed
this tutorial and this slideshare tutorial
unfortunately, every time i run any C++ code even "Hello world", the compiler generates this error Link: fatal error LINK1104: cant open file 'opencv_core2411d.obj'
I also referred to some question in SO but they were not detailed or they discuss importing opencv library but in another IDE not visual studio.
note: the libs i used as input to the linker in the field 'Additional Dependencies':

In my experience the linker error:
Link: fatal error LINK1104: cant open file 'opencv_core2411d.obj'
usually means that the linker cannot find the file. This is generally because the linker properties are not correct.
Check the property page under linker->"Additional Library Directories" and make sure that it is filled in and the path is correct.
Depending on how you have the project setup you may have different settings for debug and release configurations.
I was also having the same problem for quite a time and after searching everywhere in the internet i finally got the solution.
These input files are correct but you need to give the full path in Linker->Input->Additional Dependencies. i will show you how.

fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file "Debug/

I'm trying to run C++ code in microsoft visual version 6.0. The code is well compiling but I'm getting the error "fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file "Debug/Assignment.exe" when I try to build. The file is saved in the project named Assignment. I'm new to C++ and the microsoft visual stuff. I don't know where to start from to get around error. Please help.
Sounds like a copy of the exe (Debug/Assignment.exe) is already running so visual studio can't overwrite the file. Have a look in the task manager / process explorer and kill any copies that are running then try again.
Curiously, in my case it was a CMake 'debug' linker library path setting that caused almost the same error, and I guess you can have similar problems with 'optimized.obj' linking failures.
LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'debug.obj'
This is because the compiler doesn't have access to that file. Change the project directory and try again.
For me this error started coming when I turned on Preprocessing output
Project properties -> C/C++ -> Preprocessing -> Preprocess to a file: Yes (/P)

Directory of the release folder for dll generation

I am linking dll with my app. It seems that there are no errors and it's being recognised in a good way.
but I am having an error of LINK 1181:
Error 3 error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'c:\users\xxx\Project\Release\mydll.lib
What could be the problem for that?
Update: I am getting a new message now which says the program can't start because tulips.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem!!!!
It seems that mydll.lib can not be found by the project.
LNK1181: The linker could not find filename because it does not exist or the path was not found.
=> From the project, can you 2x click on it and see if VS2010 finds it?

Trying to get my game running in VC 2010, can't seem to link SOIL library, don't know how to link, game source code included

I've been using CodeBlocks for a while now as I make a little hobby game in C++. Come across a snag whereby I want to see the current values of all the data in my arrays at any point, CodeBlocks doesn't seem to have that ability. Have been told by workmates (professional game programmers) that I should use Visual Studio.
Have previously used Visual Studio C# in the past, was very handy being able to use a break point while debugging other small games I've made and then going through the big list of watches to look at particular array values or any other value from within my program at that time.
So I've created a new blank project in VC2010 and added all my code files to the project. I know I have to link libraries and such, have spent the last few hours trying to figure out how to do that. But even after all that is done, I'm still getting link errors (I think)
First problem is this:
fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'gl\glext.h': No such file or directory
So I commented it out to see how much further I could get.
Eventually had to add to my main.cpp file
#pragma comment (lib, "opengl32.lib")
#pragma comment (lib, "glu32.lib")
#pragma comment (lib, "libsoil.lib")
I ended up copying the libsoil.a file to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\lib and renaming it to libsoil.lib (as stated on the authors's website http://www.lonesock.net/soil.html)
So now I get this when I compile

..And I have no idea what to do next. I've spent ages in Google and trawling through forums and I really just don't know what to do.
So as a last ditch effort I'm zipping up all my code and project files and letting anyone whos interested to have a look and see if they can find a solution. It's not like this game will have any secret feature I want to keep under wraps, and all the art is from an open game competition from ages ago ("TIGSource Assembly" for those who know what it is) or from DeviantArt (just wanted something to look at while I made it, wouldn't be final game release art)

Any help would be good, but I'm just getting really depressed as I seem to spend most of my time either fighting with the IDE/Compilers or some annoying syntax problem.

Hopefully it'll compile for you. Otherwise there should be an HappyHelperPuppy.exe that's precompiled by CodeBlocks that should hopefully run and give you an idea of what is suppose to happen
In the SOIL package there are a number of project files for visual studio. When I try to load up the VC9 one and convert it to VC10, I get conversion errors.

If I use the VC8 project file and try to upgrade that, a libSOIL.lib file is generated by VC2010 throws an error saying "Unable to start program ... \SOIL.lib The specified file is an unrecognized or unsupported binary format"
But the author on his site states that I can simply rename the libSOIL.a file to a libSOIL.lib file and it should work.
The soil.zip file contains some .sln files under the folder projects. Use the proper .sln file to build the library, then link your project against this library. It worked fine on my side.
