Custom sorl-thumbnail processor - django

I found a question (and an answer) related to sorl-thumbnail that looks like a good point related to what I’m looking for :
Image filtering with the new sorl-thumbnail. But my django knowledge is far too weak to understand what I could do with that.
I’d like to extend sorll-thumbnail so that I could process an image before serving it. For example : add a blur effect. I can deal with the image processing part (already done such things with php/imagemagick), but I don’t know where to start to plug my own function above sorl-thumbnail.
In my project, I installed the lib with pip. Where in my code can I create a class/subclass so that I could pass an argument to the templatetag? What should this class look like?
Is the RoundedCornerEngine class described in the mentioned post ok ? Where should I have this code ?

How do you make a django field reference to a python class?

I am working on a project to expand a testing suite that my company uses. One of this things that was asked of me was to link the website to our Github source for code so that the dev team could continue tracking the issues there instead of trying to look in two places. I was able to do this but the problem is that every time the a bug is reported an issue is opened.
I want to add a field to my Django model that tracks an Issue object (from the github3.py wrapper) that is sent to Github. I want to use this to check if an Issue has already been created in Github by that instance of the BugReport and if it has been created, edit the Issue instead of creating another issue in Github that is a duplicate. Does Django have a something that can handle this sort of reference?
I am using Django 1.3.1 and Python 2.7.1

I was able to figure my specific problem out using esauro's suggestions. However, as mkoistinen said, If this problem came up in a program where the work-around was not as easy as this one was, should an object reference be created like I had originally asked about or is that bad practice? and if it is okay to make an object reference like that, how would you do it with the Django models?

If you want to get the issue itself via a number, there are a couple different ways to do this. I'm not sure how you're interacting with the API but you can do:

Webassets in Django

I am new to Webassets and i am using it together with Django. I have several questions on it and would like some help on it.. I was referring to WebAssets in Django.
Questions:

1)I understand that the Bundle helps to pac this in to packed.js but why is filters used? what is the purpose of filters here?
2) What are the uses or the advantages of using webassets? are they any tutorials/readups for webassets?

To answer your questions however, the filter isn't the python filter you might be thinking about. It refers to the type of compressor that's being used - e.g. closure compiler, yui compressor etc.
The idea of any asset manager is to combine, compress and version the static files (js/css and images for some asset managers) so as to optimize web page loading speed. Using one of these asset managers - http://www.djangopackages.com/grids/g/asset-managers/ - leads to page load performance increase with minimal effort (usually only simple configuration is needed)

How to use Openlayer refresh strategy with django-olwidget?

I would like to have "realtime" like map.
My main question is:
How to use django-olwidget with openlayers OpenLayers.Strategy.Refresh?
Do I need to start back "from scratch" to use manually openlayers?
With django-olwidget, the data is on the web page so the args which define data-source, protocol.
My "second" question is about which format should I choose...
geoJSON? kml? other?
Can those formats contain openlayers point specific "style" specifications like:
{'graphic_name': 'square', 'point_radius': 10, 'fill_color': "#ABBAAB', 'stroke_color':'#BAABBA'}.
I already overriden the default map template olwidget/multi_layer_map.html to access my map object in JS. I think it should be rather simple to apply a js function on each data layers before passing it to the map.

If you're going to use regularly-refreshing data (without refreshing the page) and serialization formats like geoJSON and KML, django-olwidget won't help you very much out of the box. You might find it easier just to use OpenLayers from scratch.
But if you really wanted to use django-olwidget, here's what I would do:
Subclass olwidget.InfoLayer to create a new vector layer type that uses a network-native format like geoJSON or KML to acquire its data.
Add a corresponding python subclass to be able to use it with Django forms or whatever the use case is. You'll probably need to specify things like the URL from which the map will poll its data.
This is a lot of work beyond writing for OpenLayers directly. The advantages would be that you would get easy Django form integration with the same map.
As to which serialization format to use: I'm partial to JSON flavors over XML flavors such as KML, but it really doesn't matter much -- Django and OpenLayers both speak both fluently.
About the styling,you should take a look at the StyleMap[1] where you can set style properties according to attributes.

django internalization in urls? how to make urls like this: "en/articles" and "pt/artigos"...?

I would need to make urls based on language.
Example:
If I had the language english and subcategory named "articles" then the url might be like this:
/en/articles/...
If the language were portuguese and subcategory already translated is "artigos" then the url will be:
/pt/artigos/...
How can I do it?
I must use the urls.py or some monkeypatches?

This features is already existing in the yet-to-be released version 1.4. You can read about it in the release note.
If your really need this feature, and no existing app feets your needs, you can still try to apply the corresponding patch yourself.
Django LocaleURL is a piece of middleware that does exactly this. The documentation can be found in the source, or online.
Edit: I read over the fact that you want to translate the url itself... I'm not aware of any piece of code that provides this. Perhaps you could extend the LocalURL middleware to take care of the translations for you. Say you have a regex match like (?P<articles>\w+), you could in the middleware determine which view you want to use. Something like the following mapping perhaps?
if article_slug in ['articles', 'artigos', 'article']:
article(request) # Call the article view
I've been using transurlvania with great success, it does exactly what you need and more, however i see that in the next Django release django-i18nurls will be included in django core so perhaps it would be better to learn that

Opinion: Where to put this code in django app:

Trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this. I have inhereted a Django project that is pretty well done.
There are a number of pre coded modules that a user can include in a page's (a page and a module are models in this app) left well in the admin (ie: side links, ads, constant contact).
A new requirement involves inserting a module of internal links in the same well. These links are not associated with a page in the same way the other modules, they are a seperate many to many join - ie one link can be reused in a set across all the pages.
the template pseudo code is:
if page has modules:
loop through modules:
write the pre coded content of module
Since the links need to be in the same well as the modules, I have created a "link placeholder module" with a slug of link-placeholder.
The new pseudo code is:
if page has modules:
loop through modules:
if module.slug is "link-placeholder":
loop through page.links and output each
else:
write pre-coded module
My question is where is the best place to write this output for the links? As I see it, my options are:
Build the out put in the template (easy, but kind of gets messy - code is nice and neat now)
Build a function in the page model that is called when the "link placeholder is encountered) page.get_internal_link_ouutput. Essentially this would query, build and print internal link module output.
Do the same thing with a custom template tag.
I am leaning towards 2 or 3, but it doesn't seem like the right place to do it. I guess I sometimes get a little confused about the best place to put code in django apps, though I do really like the framework.

I'd recommend using a custom template tag.
Writing the code directly into the template is not the right place for that much logic, and I don't believe a model should have template-specific methods added to it. Better to have template-specific logic live in template-specific classes and functions (e.g. template tags).
