Problems setting up gsl with cmake - c++

I was able to successfully configure and generate the build folder (KinectSLAM6D/build.). However, when I try to build it using make, I got an error saying gsl is not found. I am pretty sure this is just a configuration issue as I have gsl installed (they're in usr/local), but I am unable to configure it. I have tried adding the following lines to CMakeList:
include_directories(${GSL_INCLUDE_DIRS} ${GSLCBLAS_INCLUDE_DIRS})
set(LIBS ${LIBS} ${GSL_LIBRARIES} ${GSLCBLAS_LIBRARIES})
I have copied the pertinent output below. I have found a couple of answers to compiling with gsl (adding -lgsl). However, I have no clue where to put that in CMakeLists or the generated MakeList and MakeList2 files.
Here's the generated output.

Also, instead of constructs like

mingw-g++ can't find include directory

I'm trying to compile my program for Windows, on Linux, so I installed the w64-mingw32 compiler via the Debian package manager. I made a separate cmakelists file where I chose x86_64-w64-mingw32-g++ as the compiler. When I try to run my build script, I get errors where it can't find the libraries that I use in my project. This is my cmake file:

A lot of the code in the cmakelists file doesn't do anything because I was trying to make it work but nothing was working. I left it in so you can see what I've tried and doesn't work.
I can run this and it compiles, but I get a linker error.

Does anyone know how I can fix this, or a better way to compile for Windows on Linux?
You need to build the libraries you're using for Windows, or find prebuilt ones, e.g. in MSYS2 repositories. You also need to point CMake to those libraries.
I've made Quasi-MSYS2 to automate both.
Example usage:
# Install Clang, LLD, Wine. Then:
git clone https://github.com/holyblackcat/quasi-msys2
cd quasi-msys2/
make install _gcc _glfw _glew
env/shell.sh
# Build
cd your/project/location
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make
# Run with Wine
./a.exe
Here is CMakeLists.txt I've used. I removed the cross-compilation stuff (which is handled automatically).
cmake_minimum_required (VERSION 3.5)
if (POLICY CMP0072)
cmake_policy(SET CMP0072 NEW)
else (NOT POLICY CMP0072)
message(STATUS "Could not use CMP0072 policy")
endif(POLICY CMP0072)
project(opengl-test LANGUAGES CXX)
find_package(OpenGL REQUIRED)
find_package(GLEW REQUIRED)
find_package(PkgConfig REQUIRED)
pkg_search_module(GLFW REQUIRED glfw3)
add_executable(a 1.cpp)
message(STATUS ${OPENGL_LIBRARIES})
target_link_libraries(a PUBLIC ${GLFW_LIBRARIES} ${OPENGL_LIBRARIES} GLEW::GLEW)
I also put them in /usr/x86_64-w64-mingw32/include/
You shouldn't modify system include directories manually. Leave them to your package manager.

Cannot link external library using CMake, either library not found or undefined user reference

I have been given a custom C++ library which I need for some simulations that I'm writing, and have been told I should build this using CMake (I should note I have never used CMake before). I am trying to write a CMakeLists.txt file so that I can call functions from this library. No matter what method I seem to try it does not want to link, however it is fine with including all of the relevant header files now.
For context on the step up, I have Ubuntu on WSL but the library I need is located on an external hard drive, I can change the structure of this if this is where the issues lie.
On WSL I have: project folder (where CMakeLists.txt is) -> subdir called Build (where I'm trying to build it).
The library structure is: D://some_path/Positioner->Poslib (the header files I need are here)
Data
Configure
ect.
The library also has a build folder under Positioner, with the same subdirectory names that each include a libname.a file.
I am trying to link to most of the library subdirectories to avoid dependency issues. The functions I'm trying to call all use the namespace Pos if that's relevant.
Below is my CMakeLists.txt setup (I have a lot of stuff I've tested commented out sorry):
project(wrapDelta)
if(NOT CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE)
set(CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE Release)
endif()
set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD 17)
#set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD 11)
set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD_REQUIRED True)
set(CMAKE_AUTOMOC ON)

# GCC pragmas but these are not supported before gcc version 6.

Any help/advice would be really appreciated, as at this stage I am just running out of ideas.
So I have fixed this problem now using
target_link_libraries(delta_wrap_test "/mnt/d/pos/positioner/build/poslib/libposlib.a")
However, I have now realised the further errors that I get from this are from the libposlib.a library depending on the Sofa library I'm also linking too, so I believe that I need to make a new static library linking those before this will work. Any advice on linking static libraries together from different directories would be welcome.

C++ with CUDA project in CMake gives error: nvlink fatal : Could not open input file 'CMakeFiles/MY_APP.dir/src/MY_APP.cpp.o' (target: sm_35)

Hello I was working on a C++ project, and had a cmake file that was working just fine, until I tried to add cuda into the C++ project. I am building this project on the NVIDIA Jetson Nano.
I get this error while building:
nvlink fatal : Could not open input file 'CMakeFiles/MY_APP.dir/src/MY_APP.cpp.o' (target: sm_35)
The rest of the error underneath that looks like this:
CMakeFiles/MY_APP.dir/build.make:552: recipe for target
'CMakeFiles/MY_APP.dir/cmake_device_link.o' failed
make[2]: *** [CMakeFiles/MY_APP.dir/cmake_device_link.o] Error 1

Makefile:155: recipe for target 'all' failed
make: *** [all] Error 2
make: Leaving directory '/home/me/Code/MY_APP/build'
I run my cmake file using a script I called confgure.sh, which looks like this:
#!/bin/sh
cmake -S . -B build -DCUDA_TOOLKIT_ROOT_DIR=/usr/local/cuda-10.2 -DCMAKE_CUDA_COMPILER=/usr/local/cuda-10.2/bin/nvcc
I run my make file using a script I called build.sh, which looks like this:
#!/bin/sh
make -C build

I am lost on how to get CUDA added to my project that already contains a bunch of C++ files, and I need to be able to call my .cu files from a .cpp file other then main.cpp, and I need to get this building in CMake, and I am doing it on the jetson nano. Any help on solving this error?
You are mixing up a lot of CUDA-related definitions and commands, including some from an earlier "era" of CUDA support in CMake.
Among other things:
Your CMakeLists.txt is overriding your environment setting for the CUDA compiler location.
... and actually, you shouldn't bother setting that location anyway, since you've already set the CUDA toolkit root.
Don't use find_package(CUDA) with CMake versions of 3.17 or 3.18, or later. For all relevant toolkit-related paths, use find_package(CUDAToolkit)`, which does... well, less but also more.
Don't use cuda_add_+suffix commands. Since CMake supports CUDA natively, you use regular add_executable, add_library etc.
There are further issues with your CMakeLists.txt file - not all of them CUDA-related, but that should be enough to get you started. It may not in itself resolve the specific bottom-line problem you have, though.
You may want to have a look at public repositories using CUDA and recent CMake versions to get an idea of how this is done.

link path confusion after target_link_libraries call

I have a cmake project where I want to add a class containing the matlab engine. For compiling it I need to include two libraries eng and mx, which I do by adding
target_link_libraries( ${TARGET} /usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/glnxa64/libeng.so)
target_link_libraries( ${TARGET} /usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/glnxa64/libmx.so)
to my CMakeLists.txt file.
However there are also lots of other old versions of libraries in /usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/glnxa64/, which seem
to be automatically added to the path as well when calling the above command. I think this causes the compiler to not find my
normal libraries anymore and produces an error.
How can I include only the two above libraries, and not all the others in the glnxa64 folder?
The warning shown after running cmake . :
CMake Warning at CMakeLists.txt:23 (add_executable):
Cannot generate a safe runtime search path for target CCDWidget because
files in some directories may conflict with libraries in implicit
directories:
runtime library [libboost_program_options.so.1.49.0] in /usr/lib may be hidden by files in:

Some of these libraries may not be found correctly.
And the error message during linking:

collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [CCDWidget] Error 1
make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/CCDWidget.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2
Below is my full CMakeLists.txt file. Lines commented out with two ## are alternatives that I tried before and didn't solve my problem.
I also added LINK_PRIVATE to the target_link_libraries command as shown in the code below, which didn't make a difference.
The option PRIVATE alone seems to be not accepted by my cmake version, as it changed the error meassage to
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lPRIVATE
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
When the #eng line is commented out, the compilation and linking works without errors
(when calling the matlab engine is also commented out in Readout.cpp), so the error must be produced by that line.

#target_link_libraries( ${TARGET} LINK_PRIVATE /usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/glnxa64/libmx.so ) # mx
target_link_libraries( ${TARGET} andor )
You could try using an imported target:
add_library(eng SHARED IMPORTED)
set_property(TARGET eng PROPERTY IMPORTED_LOCATION /usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/glnxa64/libeng.so)
...
add_executable( ${TARGET} ${MAIN_SOURCES} )
...
target_link_libraries(${TARGET} eng)
For debugging you could try to build with "make VERBOSE=1".
This will show you the used gcc command line.
CMake probably transforms your target_link_libraries command to something like:
g++ ... -L/usr/local/MATLAB/R2013b/bin/glnxa64 -leng ...
gcc then finds some boost libraries in this folder.

Cmake finds library but does not find symbols

I'm using cmake verison 2.8.11.2 to build a project using some external libraries and packages. However since I tried adding the library spglib I have been unable to compile the code. Despite CMake adding the correct .so file the resulting makefile does not correctly link to it.
I use the following CMake code in src/main/CMakeLists.txt to include the spglib .so file:
ADD_EXECUTABLE(PotFit ${SourceFiles})
SET_TARGET_PROPERTIES(PotFit PROPERTIES COMPILE_DEFINITIONS "${POTFIT_COMPILE_DEFINITIONS}")
TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(PotFit PotFitLibrary boost_timer boost_system)
set(CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH [path to]/src/.libs)
find_library(SPGLIBRARY NAMES spg spglib libsymspg symspg PATHS /home/staffana /CS/trunk/spglib-1.6.0/src/.libs [path to]/spglib-1.6.0/src)
target_link_libraries(PotFit "${SPGLIBRARY}")
Which seems to work. I check that CMake actually finds the library using
message("The value of SPGLibrary is")
message("${SPGLIBRARY}")
which correctly returns the path to libsymspg.so. However the compiler returns the error
CMakeFiles/PotFit.dir/Main.cpp.o: In function `main':
Main.cpp:(.text.startup+0x11a): undefined reference to `spg_get_spacegroup_type(int)'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [main/PotFit] Error 1
make[1]: *** [main/CMakeFiles/PotFit.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2
*** Failure: Exit code 2 ***
I make sure that the libsymspg.so does contain this symbol by using
nm libsymspg.so | grep get_spacegroup_type
which returns
0000ad30 T spgdb_get_spacegroup_type
0000c240 T spg_get_spacegroup_type
So between Cmake and linking something is wrong. As far as I know I am using the "normal" way of doing things, so I am not sure where to begin looking for what is causing this problem. I have appended all whole CMakeLists.txt below since that might be useful and I can add the CMakeCache if needed (it's p. long...).
