There are a lot of questions and answers on how to parse/create config files in python and C++ individually. In my case, I have one single config file and need to be processed (read/write) by both python and C++.
In python world, ConfigParser is popular; while in C++, libconfig looks nice. But they are using different formats. What I am looking for is a stone being able to kill two birds at the same time. :)
An obvious solution that comes to mind is to go with something along the lines of YAML or JSON which you should find support for across many languages.

I think you're asking how to write code in OCaml, i.e., how to create an OCaml source file. (This isn't completely clear. You could be asking how to write OCaml code that creates a file.)
The details of creating OCaml source depend on your development environment, not on the language itself. So there is no one answer.
The general answer is that you can use any tool you like that knows how to create a text file. If you like working from the command line (as I do) you can work in a terminal environment and run some kind of vintage text editor from the last millennium (as I do). If you like a GUI environment, you can run some kind of "programmer's editor" from the current millennium, or really any kind of editor that creates basic utf-8 files (or even ASCII files).
Generally the editor will have to be told where to store the files that you edit. You would probably want to make some kind of folder for the project and make sure you store the text files in there.
I hope this helps! If you have any programmers nearby, they can probably get you started a lot faster than asking on StackOverflow.
Java has a method that opens a text box and pulls the answer:
JOptionPane.showInputDialog(frame, "What's your name?");
Is there a similar easy solution for pulling input text?

Vanilla python has no methods for UI interfaces (I believe as any other programming language - Java, C#, C++, %any_other_language% use separate libraries or frameworks to create UI). There is number of libraries for python which are used to draw different user interfaces and which would allow you to do this. You could check this list, pick up the one you like more and read how you could do it there:

I am creating an OpenGL game and I would like to make it open to more languages than just English for obvious reasons. From looking around and fiddling around with the games installed on my computer I can see that locales play a big part in this and that .lang files, such as en-US.lang that is shipped with minecraft, are basically text documents with a language code, "item.iron.ingot" for example, an equal sign, and then what it means for that given language, English as per en-US, so in this case would be, "Iron Ingot". Well I created a file that I named en-US.lang and this is its contents:
item.iron.ingot=Iron Ingot
In my C++ main method I put:
setlocale(LC_ALL, "en-US");
After including the locale header file. So I suppose the part that I am confused by is how to use the locales to read from the .lang file? Please help SO and some example code would be appreciated.
C++ Does not come with a built-in support for resource files / internationalization. However there is a huge variety of solutions.
To support multi-language messages, you should have some basic understanding of how such strings are encoded in files and read to memory. Here is a basic introduction if you are not familiar:

To keep and load the correct text at runtime you need to use a third party library: GNU gettext http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/ is one such example. However there are other solutions out there.

odt2txt - avaliable in repos.

Should produce document1.txt.
OpenOffice has a built-in document converter capable of handling a bunch of formats- take a look at unoconv: http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/unoconv/
That being said, I have had some troubles getting that to work in the past- If you're having trouble, take a look at similar programs for AbiWord (another open source word processor).
For word documents, you can try antiword, at least on linux. It's a command line utility that takes a word document as an argument, and spits out the text from that document (as best as it can figure) to Standard Output. Maybe you can specify an ouput file too. I can't remember the details of how it works. I haven't used it in a while. Not sure if it can handle OO documents.
It's certainly possible to do this, though there is something strange and impenetrable about the OO project and its documentation that makes things like this hard to research and follow. However, OO has the capability to convert all of those types, not just the OO native ones, and it can do it via two different forms of automatic control.
These are the two general approaches.
You can start OO and tell it to execute a macro which does this job for you for a given file. You then just have to write the macro and a script to loop over your files. The syntax is something like
$ oowriter -headless filename macro://dir/Standard.Module1.sMySub
The other thing OO has is a network API. This is based on something called UNO.
$ oowriter -accept=accept-string
Notifies the OpenOffice.org software that upon the creation of
"UNO Acceptor Threads", a "UNO Accept String" will be used.
You will need some sort of client library. I think they have one for Python at least. Using this technology a Python program or some other scripting language with an OO client library could drive the program and convert all the files. Since OO reads MSO, it should be able to do all of them.
Open the file in LibreOffice. Click on "File", "Save-as" scroll down to find the text option. Click that and it will be saved as a text file.
FYI, I had an *.ODT file that was 339.2 KB in size. When I save-as text the size of the file shrunk to ONLY 5.0 KB. Another reason for saving your files as text files.
For the Microsoft formats, look into the wvWare tools.
Open .ods file normally in libre office
Highlight text to be converted
Open a terminal
Run vi
Press "i" to get insert mode
Press ctrl-shift-v

I want to experiment a bit with C++ as a server side language. I'm not looking for a framework, and simply want to achieve a silly old "Hello World" webapp using C++.

cgi would do this. Just have your C++ app spit its output to stdout and your mod_cgi will handle it

"mod_c++" doesn't make sense; Once you're talking about compiled programs, Apache doesn't care what language the binary comes from. mod_cgi allows Apache to invoke such a binary (regardless of it's source language) in response to HTTP requests. Read more here:

Suppose for the moment the OP wanted something that was "like mod_php, mod_perl". Given the right configuration, it would be monumentally easy for the "mod_c++" to look at the source files, and compiled files and decide whether it had to do a "one off" compilation task. In fact this is how make works.
I know the OP probably didn't mean that it had to be "interpreted", but it's certainly not impossible to allow apache to compile cpp files on the fly if needed [this is how jsp works, btw].
I did create a mod_cpp once. It basically was written in c, but loaded a .so which was in turn written in C++.
Its performance was really good, but lacked a lot of things that we take for granted in things like PHP (sessions, HTML un/escaping, etc). It did use a template engine to separate the HTML from the C++.
I tell you, the initial set-up was a lot of work (the mod_cpp part); after that, it was kinda easy to write the .so's. I even tried to create an sf.net project to open-source it, but I never got around to actually porting it :-(
In summary: I did not find anything like that on the net, did it myself and found out to be a lot more work then I anticipated, but the result was very cool! This helped me a lot: Apache Modules
I'm not saying there is no such thing, but if there is it would be monumentally inefficient. C++ is a compiled language, not an interpretive one, so the putative Apache C++ module would have to invoke the C++ compiler to compile the code before executing it. This would be very, very slow, apart from other problems.
