Its my first time to use web service in iOS.
REST was my first choice and I use code igniter to form it.
I have my Controller:
require APPPATH.'/libraries/REST_Controller.php';
class Sample extends REST_Controller
{
function example_get()
{
$this->load->helper('arh');
$this->load->model('users');
$users_array = array();
$users = $this->users->get_all_users();
foreach($users as $user){
$new_array = array(
'id'=>$user->id ,
'name'=>$user->name,
'age'=>$user->age,
);
array_push( $users_array, $new_array);
}
$data['users'] = $users_array;
if($data)
{
$this->response($data, 200);
}
}
function user_put()
{
$this->load->model('users');
$this->users->insertAUser();
$message = array('message' => 'ADDED!');
$this->response($message, 200);
}
}
, using my web browser, accessing the URL http://localhost:8888/restApi/index.php/sample/example/format/json really works fine and gives this output:
{"users":[{"id":"1","name":"Porcopio","age":"99"},{"id":"2","name":"Name1","age":"24"},{"id":"3","name":"Porcopio","age":"99"},{"id":"4","name":"Porcopio","age":"99"},{"id":"5","name":"Luna","age":"99"}]}
, this gives me a great output using RKRequest by RestKit in my app.
The problem goes with the put method. This URL :
http://localhost:8888/restApi/index.php/sample/user
always give me an error like this:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<xml>
<status/>
<error>Unknown method.</error>
This is my Users model
<?php
class Users extends CI_Model {
function __construct()
{
parent::__construct();
}
function get_all_users()
{
$this->load->database();
$query = $this->db->get('users');
return $query->result();
}
function insertAUser(){
$this->load->database();
$data = array('name'=> "Sample Name", 'age'=>"99");
$this->db->insert('users', $data);
}
}
?>
What is the work around for my _put method why am I not inserting anything?
Thanks all!
Unless you set the method to PUT or POST, your web server is not going to treat it as such. When you enter URLs in a browser bar, that is almost always a GET request. You might try to use curl like
curl -X POST -d #filename http://your.url.path/whatever
Another link would be: https://superuser.com/questions/149329/what-is-the-curl-command-line-syntax-to-do-a-post-request
So you should be able to do a PUT similarly (perhaps with no data). Not really sure if this should be iOS tagged though :)
I got this problem by using Firefox plug in rest Client.
I just have to indicate the headers and the body to make put and post work.

I have a simple webservice in symfony2 that is working perfectly. I have added a new method, however, strangely, that method is not recognized, even when I see it in the WSDL definition.
Please load: WSDL definition
Method is called GetHoliday
The controller that executes that method is the following:
public function getHolidayAction() {
date_default_timezone_set('America/Santiago');
$request = $this->getRequest();
$client = new \SoapClient('http://' . $request->getHttpHost() . $request->getScriptName() . '/feriados?wsdl');
$year = $request->get('year');
$month = $request->get('month');
$day = $request->get('day');
$types = $client->__getFunctions();
var_dump($types);
die();
$result = $client->GetHoliday('8cd4c502f69b5606a8bef291deaac1ba83bb7727', 'cl', $year, $month, $day);
echo $result;
die();
}
After the call to __getFunctions call, GetHoliday method is missing.
If you want to see the __getFunctions response, please load online site
Enter any date in the input field. The response will appear in red.
The most curious thing, is that this works in my development machine which also has RedHat operating system (my hosting is HostGator).
Any help will be appreciated,
Finally, the problem was that the WSDL was being cached.
To make the first test, I used
$client = new \SoapClient('http://' . $request->getHttpHost() . $request->getScriptName() . '/feriados?wsdl', array('cache_wsdl' => WSDL_CACHE_NONE) );
To instantiate SoapClient. That way, it worked. so to get rid of WSDL_CACHE_NONE parameter, I deleted all files that start with wsdl in /tmp folder.

I made a controller to provide some webservices in JSON and i would like to provide some errors informations when Symfony throw an exception ( Error 500 ) , how can i write such a thing ?
The main purpose of the webservice is to update informations in Symfony DB provided by the caller in POST values.
in my controller i return response in JSON and i would like to handle Symfony exception ( like when the values provided or not fitting the schema designed ) to return details informations about errors .
i thought about making a test of every values but it would be a long time to write and not e easy code to read or using a try / catch system , but i think Symfony already provide such a function .
What do you think ?
Thx :)
I think you should use an EventListener to catch errors and return the proper response.
You can place it inside your SomethingBundle/EventListener folder and also you need to define a service in order to be loaded by Symfony.
More info: Event Listener
I hope I helped you, if you think I might be wrong, let me know. Good luck!
EDIT
If you only want to catch the errors inside a specific controller (for example) a controller called Webservice inside your SomethingBundle, you must check it before doing anything:
public function onKernelException(GetResponseForExceptionEvent $event)
{
$request = $event->getRequest();
if($this->getBundle($request) == "Something" && $this->getController($request) == "Webservice")
{
// Do your magic
//...
}
}
private function getBundle(Request $request)
{
$pattern = "#([a-zA-Z]*)Bundle#";
$matches = array();
preg_match($pattern, $request->get('_controller'), $matches);
return (count($matches)) ? $matches[0] : null;
}
private function getController(Request $request)
{
$pattern = "#Controller\\\([a-zA-Z]*)Controller#";
$matches = array();
preg_match($pattern, $request->get('_controller'), $matches);
return (count($matches)) ? $matches[1] : null;
}
DANGER This code is not tested, is only an approach for you to build your own code. But, if I have something wrong on it, tell me. I'd like to keep my examples clean.
Use JsonResponse Symfony class in sandbox:
use Symfony\Component\HttpFoundation\JsonResponse;
$data = array(); // array of returned response, which encode to JSON
$data['error_message'] = 'Bad request or your other error...');
$response = new JsonResponse($data, 500); // 500 - response status
return $response;
I need to get the content of an Article which is on my Joomla website. In order to do this, I was planning to write a simple PHP webservice to get the content (HTML) of my article. But I just don't know how to do this.
I'm new in Joomla, web developping and web services. I just want to get the content of my article in order to display it in my ruby on rails site. Can anyone explain how I can do this?
Well, here is at least a small contribution that should help to get you going: the attached code can be called with "?id={ID of article you want to retrieve}" and it displays the entire object on screen.
Next steps: pick out the pieces you're interested in and return these...
<?php
define('_JEXEC', 1);
define('DS', DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR);
$username="*** insert username ***";
$password = "*** password here ***";
if (!defined('_JDEFINES')) {
define('JPATH_BASE', dirname(__FILE__));
require_once JPATH_BASE.'/includes/defines.php';
}
require_once JPATH_BASE.'/includes/framework.php';
// Mark afterLoad in the profiler.
JDEBUG ? $_PROFILER->mark('afterLoad') : null;
// Instantiate the application.
$app = JFactory::getApplication('site');
// Initialise the application.
$app->initialise();
$app ->login(
array('username'=>$username,
'password'=>$password),
array('remember' => true));
$dbo = JFactory::getDBO();
$id=$_GET["id"];
$art = JTable::getInstance('Content');
$art->load($id);
echo "<pre>";
var_dump($art);
echo"</pre>";
?>
I've seen a lot of topics about this, but unfortunately I believe that each case is a different case (or most of them), and I really would love some experts opinion about my case in particular since I cannot make my code work even after reading through some of the other topics.
Situation: I am using an Ajax Request call in jQuery to a WebService method I have created in an WebApi project together with a MVC 4 Application.
My WebService controller class looks like the default, like this:
public class AdditionalInfoController : ApiController
{
//GET api/AdditionalInfo
public IEnumerable<string> Get()
{
return new string[] { "value1", "value2" };
}
//GET api/AdditionalInfo/5
public string Get(int id)
{
return "value";
}
//PUT api/AdditionalInfo/5
public void Put(int id)
{
string test = "";
}
}
My Ajax Request from jQuery looks like this:
function GetAdditionalInfo(obj)
{
var request = jQuery.ajax({
url: "/api/AdditionalInfo/Get",
type: "GET",
data: { id: obj.id },
datatype: "json",
async: false,
beforeSend: function () {
},
complete: function () {
}
})
.done(function (a,b,c) {
alert("Additional info was retrieved successfully!");
})
.fail(function (a,b,c) {
alert("An error happened while trying to get the additional info!");
});
}
My WebAPIConfig file looks like this:
public static class WebApiConfig
{
public static void Register(HttpConfiguration config)
{
config.Routes.MapHttpRoute(
name: "DefaultApi",
routeTemplate: "api/{controller}/{action}/{id}",
defaults: new { id = RouteParameter.Optional }
);
}
}
And last but not least, this is my problem: this error message keeps appearing when I browse the returned data variable in .fail and this is what is written:
"{
"Message":"No HTTP resource was found that matches the request URI 'http://localhost:59096/api/AdditionalInfo/Get?id=1'.",
"MessageDetail":"No type was found that matches the controller named 'AdditionalInfo'."
}"
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me as soon as possible. Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Mad
Looking at the error looks like Web API is unable to find the controller 'type' AdditionalInfo. Web API uses assemblies resolver to scan through the assemblies and finds out the controller types. In your case for some reason its unable to find your 'AdditionalInfo' controller probably because it has some problem loading the assembly having this controller.
Try the following and see if there are any errors logged in your EventLog. If you notice any errors then probably you should check if your controllers are present in those assemblies.
Make the following change in Web.config to view errors in EventLog
<system.diagnostics>
<trace autoflush="false" indentsize="4">
<listeners>
<add name="myListener"
type="System.Diagnostics.EventLogTraceListener"
initializeData="WebApiDiagnostics" />
</listeners>
</trace>
</system.diagnostics>
In your WebApiConfig.cs, you can do the following:
IAssembliesResolver assembliesResolver = config.Services.GetAssembliesResolver();
ICollection<Assembly> assemblies = assembliesResolver.GetAssemblies();
StringBuilder errorsBuilder = new StringBuilder();
foreach (Assembly assembly in assemblies)
{
Type[] exportedTypes = null;
if (assembly == null || assembly.IsDynamic)
{
// can't call GetExportedTypes on a dynamic assembly
continue;
}
try
{
exportedTypes = assembly.GetExportedTypes();
}
catch (ReflectionTypeLoadException ex)
{
exportedTypes = ex.Types;
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
errorsBuilder.AppendLine(ex.ToString());
}
}
if (errorsBuilder.Length > 0)
{
//Log errors into Event Log
Trace.TraceError(errorsBuilder.ToString());
}
BTW, some of the above code is actually from the DefaultHttpControllerTypesResolver which Web API uses to resolve the controller types.

Edited:
One more scenario where you could hit this problem is if your controller is nested inside another class. This was a bug which was fixed later though.
Ok, so I believe I found out what was going on. I am not entirely certain, but at least my problem got fixed.
Simply by changing what was inside of the "data" field in the Ajax call and I have created a class for an object in the application to hold the whole data. It seems that for some reason the method could not have the syntax "Get(int ID)".
Instead, I did something like "Get( object)" and in the Ajax Request something like "data: obj.ID" and voila, it worked.
Also, since the framework is picky about the names of the REST methods (Get, Post, Put and Delete), I changed the name of the method to something else (like Retrieve or something).
Hopefully this will help someone in the future as well.
Best regards,
Mad
Be sure that you have the same parameter names in your methods (int id) as well as in your WebApiConfig/RouteConfig. Try it by changing
public string Get(int id)
{
return "hello";
}
to
public string Get(int? id = null)
{
return "hello";
}
I had the same problem. with me it happens due to a crush in the visual studio (2012). I had the controller file open in visual studio but it wasn't a part of my solution - I couldn't find him in the controllers directory in the solution explorer.
I just added the file to the solution by right clicking on controllers directory => add => existing item.
that fixed the problem for me.
if that doesn't work maybe try to delete the controller and add a new one with the same code . . .
I've found a few questions and pages dealing with cookies in Symfony2 but there doesn't seem to be any clear consensus on exactly how this is supposed to work. I can, of course, just fall back to using PHP's native setcookie function but I feel that it should be an easy thing to do with Symfony2 as well.
I have an action in my controller from which I simply want to return a view with a cookie attached. Thus far I have seem examples basically like this:
use Symfony\Compentnt\HttpFoundation\Response;
public function indexAction() {
$response = new Response();
$response->headers->setCookie(new Cookie('name', 'value', 0, '/');
$response->send();
}
The problem with this is that it sends the response... and doesn't render the view. If I set the cookie without sending the headers the view is rendered but the header (cookie) is not sent.
Poking around I found the sendHeaders() method in the Response object so I'm now manually calling that in my action before returning and that seems to work:
public function indexAction() {
...
$response->sendHeaders();
return array('variables' => 'values');
}
But is this really the expected pattern to use? In previous versions of symfony I could set the headers in my controller and expect the view controller to handle sending whatever I had sent. It seems now that I must manually send them from the action to get it to work, meaning I have to call this from any action that I set headers in. Is this the case or is there something that I'm missing that's so obvious that no one has bothered to even mention it in any of the documentation?
I think you're on the right lines with:
$response->headers->setCookie(new Cookie('name', 'value', 0, '/'));
If you're trying to render a template then check out the docs here:
Symfony2 Templating Service
If you look at the line:
return $this->render('AcmeArticleBundle:Article:index.html.twig');
basically the render method is returning a response (which the controller then returns) which has the content of the twig template, all you have to do is intercept this:
$response = $this->render('AcmeArticleBundle:Article:index.html.twig');
$response->headers->setCookie(new Cookie('name', 'value', 0, '/'));
return $response;
I think that's it anyway...
