I have a remote Ubuntu server, but I work on a Windows computer.
My idea was to work with ColdBox, but I cannot perform the installation on the remote server, because it does not match the installation directory with the webroot.
Is the use of ColdBox as such possible, or have I made a mistake?

I installed IIS, Started Web Management Service, and Installed Web Platform Installer, checked the port, windows firewall is not enabled, shut down and started up, but still get the error that web deploy isn't installed when I try to publish with Web deploY in Visual Studio. According to your error message, it seems you used the wrong server address. The web deploy could find the remote server("aspnet-dev").
Could you please tell me which server named "aspnet-dev"? On your current server or remote server?
If you just want to publish the web application to current server (VS is installed in the IIS server) ,I suggest you could firstly open the current IIS management console to make sure you have used the right server name and IIS web applicatio name.

Then I suggest you could open the Web Platform Installer to check you have installed the web deploy.
If you want to publish the web application to remote server (VS isn't installed in the IIS server), I suggest you could use the server's IP address or domain instead of the server name like below:
https://yourhostname:8172/

Sorry to disappoint you, but there are no easy solutions for using Rails on a Windows platform. It was not designed to run on Windows and I don't think I would recommend Windows as a platform for a Rails app. Not to say it hasn't been done, but in my experience it would be far easier to setup and run on a Linux platform as it was designed to do.
There is support for MS SQL server and Rails and you can checkout this project for more information.
My recommendation is to learn more about Rails and setting it up the environment, because a red flag to me is that you want to deploy a Rails app and yet do not know how to set it for production. This should be Rails 101 knowledge. Production is just another environment for Rails, there are things you need to be aware of when running a Rails app in production and this information can be found on easily rubyonrails.org.
Put some more time into learning Rails and perhaps setup a Linux virtual machine, deploy your Rails app, and experiment. Once you learn how to deploy Rails on a Linux platform them perhaps it may be a little easier to understand how to go about doing it on Windows.

What is left is to learn is how to use database engine that is probably of the most interest for developers who work on Windows – Microsoft's SQL Server. If you do not have MS SQL Server installed go ahead and download MS SQL Server Express installer from Microsoft's site. I will use version 2014 in this book. Let's first create database that we will use in our Rails application:

Newest rails adapter for MS SQL Server uses tiny_tds library to connect to MS SQL server and its usage is almost straigtforward. First thing we have to do is to add following two lines to Gemfile:
gem 'tiny_tds'
gem 'activerecord-sqlserver-adapter'
And run bundle install.
With all prerequisites met we can now configure our Ruby on Rails application to use SQL Server. Connection options are displayed below:

I am learning python and Django now. I have a question related to deploying Django project on windows 7. I know how to start the test server in django and see the project. But I have to do start the server manually every time I restart the PC. Also I have to keep the terminal window open.
Consider the below scenario for php projects.
We copy and paste the php files in htdocs or www folder in apache server and access them using the respected url. Web Server is running in the background. We dont have to start the server on windows restart.
Is something similar possible with Django on apache or any other server?
If yes, how should I go about it?

I recently did a full 64 bit install of Railo on my Windows 8.1 machine hooking it up to IIS. The code for the site is in a location outside the c:\railo directory and when I boot it up it did put the WEB-INF folder in the application root like it was supposed to. When I start the Railo server from the command prompt I am seeing the correct path to the WEB-INF\railo folder for that web context in the start up. So the code runs and all is good except that I can't get into the admins with IIS throwing a 404. Anybody have any ideas?

Currently I am attempting to install the Jetty WTP Server Adapter for Eclipse 3.5 and get the following errors:

To install, I attempt to add a new server runtime, click 'Install Additional Server Adapters' and follow the wizard I get when I click on the Generic Jetty Server Adapter that eventually loads. I've had this error in all the RCs up to this point, but currently the active RC is RC4.
I also found the 'Download additional server adapters" route to adding the Jetty (and Glassfish) server adapters failed, with the same dependency issues as the Original Poster.
Downloading the .jar and copying it into the 'plugins' dir of my Eclipse install idd not work. The Jetty server adapter was still not a recognised installed plugin.
I had to go to "Help->Install New Software->Add..." and enter the http://www.webtide.com/eclipse site manually. Then I could see the Jetty adapter, and install it successfully. It seems to have installed into the eclipse/plugins/ rather than copied a .jar file into eclipse/plugins.
This may be what the poster on 2 Jul was trying to say, but it wasn't very clear.
I don't know why, but the "download additional server adapters" dialog hasn't worked for me once with Eclipse 3.5, the install always fails with dependency issues.
I also found I had to manually install all the WST Adapter items to get around failed dependencies, for example:
"Web, XML and Java EE Development->JST Server Adapters", "WST Server Adapters"
and also the "Database Development" items. I'm not sure which were required.. when I'd installed everything that looked likely, all my dependency issues were resolved when installing the Glassfish and Jetty server adapters from their update sites.
There's a new (official!) Jetty WTP Plugin to support Jetty 7.x and 8.x: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Jetty_WTP_Plugin
The problem could be resolved installing the JST Server UI before the Jetty Server Adapter. It is a current bug (see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=321663).
That way you can install it either as a plugin or in the servers view.
I think you need org.mortbay.jetty.serveradaptor.1.0.4.jar to install jetty adapter, download from http://www.webtide.com/eclipse , put it in plugins of eclipse.
