Putting wamp online prob - wamp

Alright, so I've downloaded wamp server before an hour. I was trying to put it online and I just couldn't. I'm getting the following exception: "could not execute menu item internal error exception could not perform service action". I was googling it and I found 2 solutions.
1 of them is to change the ports of the skype, and other programs from port 80 to another one.
I don't have any of these programs, so it's should be OK.
The second solution is to change the port of the wamp to 8080 or whatever, I tried this also and it's still not working.(The icon of the wamp is orange).
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing anything?

I use WampDeveloper Pro, so it's a bit different, but I'll assume that your problem is that Apache will not start.
You'll need to get the specific Apache error message to understand what the problem is.
Open the command line (run cmd.exe), and within type in: httpd t.
This will perform a syntax check. If it's okay, then type in: httpd -k start.
This will attempt to start Apache, and if unsuccessful, will print out the error.
If the error is something like "can't bind to 0.0.0.0:80, port already in use" (the error will be a bit more clinical than that) then you are right, something else is already taking up port 80.
In which case, type in: netstat -aon. Look for the line that says "0.0.0.0:80" and note the PID number. Then get in your Windows Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del), into the Processes Tab, click "Show process from all". Find the process that has the same PID number. This is what you need to shut down or reconfigure to listen on another port.

hey have you tried to put off any othe installed server like IIS for example ?? if you have IIS turned on go to services and stop world wide publishing service and than try restart all wamp services and then put it online it sould work :)

Mostly its Apache problem.
I had the same problem. The problem is that the port Apache is trying to use is actually being used by some other application. Either
Change the port no. from the file http.conf or httpd.conf from 80 to smething else Listen 8080 change 8080 to something else.
check out which application is using the port and shut it down. Check the port status using "cports" aplication or any other that you prefer. Then it will work just fine.

On which port application/process/service is running or at particular port(8080, 3306) which application/process/service is running in vc++

hi i want to get information about application running at which port? or at particular port which application is running.. like at port 3306 mysql is running. i gone through all WMI classes in MSDN but could not find relevant output. from [Win32_Product] (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394378(v=vs.85).aspx), [Win32_Baseservice] (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394073(v=vs.85).aspx) and win32_process i got almost all information about product, services and processes but still do not get port name.
Try netstat from command prompt
C:\Windows\system32>netstat -anob

Remote access for Geoserver...Local host only

I am a GIS tech trying to get migrate to Geoserver, unfortunately I am not very savvy on web hosting.
I installed the Windows version 2.3.1.
I was able to build by map and access it through localhost:8080\geoserver\www\
I take that to mean that the jetty server it working.
I understand that I should be able to replace my local IP address where "localhost" is and be able to access it from another computer via Http.
I can't figure out the next step. I have found great tutorials on every part of geoserver process except this. And the user guide does not get into this either.
My set up: Cable Modem > Router > PC with Geoserver
What I have tried: Setting up a virtual server on my router. I have tried changing by router to inbound port 8080 to private port 8080
I also tried 80 to 8080
and 80 to 80
I also tried windows firewall exception. and turning off windows firewall.
I read about using appache tomcat but I have not installed it because it seems that jetty is working (at least as a local host) and I don't want to put another program on 8080. And to my understanding it can work stand alone but I really honestly don't know no.
I am must be missing some vital piece of information on how to do this. I am hoping it is just so basic that it wasn't worth mentioning on tutorials.
Thanks
Karin
This would be a GeoServer configuration question, but since its deployed in jetty the solution is likely in the underlying jetty configuration. That being said it is a guess on my part (the jetty side of things) how they set up this distribution, but if you find a jetty.xml file, perhaps under an /etc directory then you should be able to edit that file and set a proper host in the configuration.
Seriously though, this has to be a pretty common GeoServer question so I bet they have some documentation floating around for setting this properly in their software distribution.
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/webadmin/basics.html
That seems to indicate it might be dependent on your container configuration, in which case look through how ever they are configuring jetty for a Host setting that is likely hardcoded to 'localhost'

Accessing a Jetty server from an external machine

I have made a simple Jetty server using this tutorial here, http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~cis550/jetty.html
Now that I have the initial steps completed, I can succesfully connect to my server by entering localhost:8080/hello or 127.0.0.1:8080/hello in my browser. Everything is going great up until this point. The servlet is working properly.
I am now interested in connecting to the server using "Machine B". I want to build a server that can be connected by any browser, anywhere.
My IP is XX.173.XXX.216, parts hidden for obvious privacy reasons. On my "Machine B" I try and enter XX.173.XXX.216:8080/hello into the browser URL. The website cannot be found. From experience I questioned my port mapping and opened my 8080 port.
After a few google searches and a while of reading, I give up. Does anyone know a possible solution to my problem? Are there any further steps I need to do in the setup of the Jetty server to make it accessible from external machines?
It is usually not hard getting from the inside of a firewall and out. It is much trickier to get from the outside and in (just have a look at the hoops Skype jumps through to be able to get two computers each behind a firewall to talk to each other directly).
First of all you need to ensure that Jetty listens to the right network devices.
Identify the IP-number of the computer running Jetty (not 127.0.0.1) and see if you can connect to "http://that-ip-number:8080" from the machine itself. If this doesn't work, fix your jetty configuration. Then put another computer on the same network and connect to "http://that-ip-number:8080" too. This MUST work before you go any further. If this doesn't work, fix your firewall configuration on the computer running Jetty.
When the above works, then you can start thinking about exposing the port through your router. The router most likely has a web interface where you can configure this, but the easiest way to do that is to use a uPNP tool (if your router supports that) which can redirect an external port to a specific host and port on your internal network. I use "Port Map" under OS X which has a very simple interface.
Good luck

Port 8080 required by VMware vFabric tc Server Developer

I'm using STS (SpringSource Tool Suite) which comes with VMware vFabric tc Server Developer Edition v2.6. The problem is, every time I start it, it shows the following error:
Port 8080 required by VMware vFabric tc Server Developer Edition v2.6
is already in use. The server may already be running in another
process, or a system process may be using the port. To start this
server you will need to stop the other process or change the port
number(s).
I don't have anything using that port that I know of. It has always worked fine until today.
I've also tried to change the port number but it doesn't accept the changes. If I change it to 8081, for example, and then restart STS it overwrites the port and sets it back to 8080.
Can anyone offer some ideas to fix this?
FYI I'm running STS in VirtualBox.
Thanks!
This applies to the latest STS version - 3.0.0
When you open STS, in the Package Explorer view (on the left), you should see a project folder called Servers.
Open Servers > VMware vFabric tc Server Developer Edition v2.7-config > catalina.properties
At the bottom of the file, you will see 2 properties defined:
bio.http.port
bio.https.port
Change bio.http.port to some other port than 8080 (e.g. 8081)
Change bio.https.port to some other port than 8443 (e.g. 8444)
Click 'Save'.
Now, when you do your right-click deploys to the built-in tc Server and start it up, it should run on the new port(s). Good luck!
In the Servers view, double click the server you wish to change the ports on. This brings up the Overview page.
Expand the Ports tab and enter your desired port settings.
The reason STS uses this configuration page is it allows you to configure a workspace server without altering the configuration in your server installation directory.
Or you might want to directly kill the zombie process still bound to that port with an oneliner:
sudo kill -9 `lsof -ti:8080`
In conjunction with Gareth's suggestion, this is what workerd for me:
In the Servers view, right click your server and click Monitoring -> Properties
Stop the monitor listening on port 8080.
Save changes and start the server.

Is it possible to find out if a VNC connection is active

My application is running on windows XP, a VNC server is also running on the PC. I'd like to find out if someone is currently connected to the VNC server (e.g. to use simpler icons). I'm using UltraVNC.
Is there a simple (preferably documented) way to to this?
EDIT: Apparently someone voted to close because he/she thought this belonged on superuser, so I think I should clarify the question: I need a programmatic solution, preferably in .NET or C++. (This is problem is trivial for a user: just look at the VNC icon in the tray.)
You can use netstat to see if there is an established connection on the port your VNC server is listening on.
try netstat -an | find "ESTABLISHED" | find ":5900" on Windows at the command prompt.
There'll be a line entry for it if someone is connected.
Note: If you're connecting to another server then this search will find that connection too, so pay attention to the presence of the :5900 in the second column from the left since this is the local machine.
check the status of port 5900
