Auto run Jetty on boot - jetty

I'm trying to get Jetty to auto start on my Ubuntu.
I've done these commands:
cp /opt/jetty/bin/jetty.sh /etc/init.d
update-rc.d jetty.sh defaults
but when I run it I got a "Not starting jetty - NO_START=1 ".
Does anyone know why?
Secondly, the following is stated inside the jetty.sh.
# To get the service to restart correctly on reboot, uncomment below (3 lines):
# ========================
# chkconfig: 3 99 99
# description: Jetty 7 webserver
# processname: jetty
# ========================
What "3 lines" are they referring to? I uncommented
chkconfig: 3 99 99
description: Jetty 7 webserver
processname: jetty
but got an error too.

By default, Jetty doesn't startup by itself.
You have to modify /etc/default/jetty6 (or whereever your config file is) and set:
no_start = 0

You can do this by commenting too. #NO_START=1
It can be easily done by following steps.
In terminal type sudo vi /etc/default/jetty
In the beginning you can see a line NO_START=1
Press Insert key on your keyboard, then you can go to insert mode.
In the bottom also you can see -INSERT- to make sure that you are in insert mode.
Comment the line, #NO_START=1
Press Esc to leave the escape mode.
then type the following to save your changes and to exit. :wq!
Now you can start.

RHEL not starting anymore on vmware

The last time the computer had reboot when I turned it on again and tried to work on RHEL here's what I have.
Did anyone of you face the same problem already ?
Thanks
In essence, the error is:

Wamp: The configuration file contains a syntax error on line 24

How can I start the wamp server on windows 7 using wamp version 2.4?

Fix:
• Go to the wamp/scripts folder
• Open console/cmd as admin
• run: php refresh.php
• Done!
Make sure you have php in your system environment settings
then go to the wamp/scripts folder
open console
run:
php refresh.php
answer from here solved my issue, referenced above info from this stack answer
ISSUE
You have a duplicate entry on C:\wamp\wampmanager.ini
ImageList=images_off.bmp or something like that.
FIX
Remove one of them (probably line 24)
It sounds like you have been playing with \wamp\wampmanager.tpl
Never play with wampmanager.tpl unless you have taken a copy first!
WAMPServer rebuilds \wamp\wampmanager.ini using a script that uses \wamp\wampmanager.tpl among other files as input, each time you start WAMPServer or when you use the wampmanager menus and click refresh.
So to fix your problem edit of wampmanager.tpl to remove the duplicated line and then do:
rightclick wampmanager icon -> refresh
Or just exit wampmanager and restart it.
to rebuild the \wamp\wampmanager.ini file
Take a backup of your Wampmanager.ini file in your wamp installation directory (in my case it is c:\Wamp64). Then rename it or move it to some other folder.
Get the wampmanager.ini from a new installation or any similar installation if you already have, then paste it in the same path. It will work like charm. This may change any of the settings you had earlier but it will make your wamp working without reinstalling it.
Wamp Manager folder
Wamp Manager configuration file in CMD prompt
It is interesting that this error shows up after initial install of the current version 3.2.6 found on aviatechno (without being able to tamper with any installed configuration file, the .ini in the installation is broken). It reports an error with line 27: WAMPMARIADBOFF.
[Services]
Name: APACHESERVICE
WAMPMARIADBOFFName: MARIADBSERVICE
WAMPMYSQLOFFName: MYSQLSERVICE
Use the new ini repair tool you can find on the aviatechno website
which corrects the lines in the ini file as:
[Services]
Name: wampapache
Name: wampmysqld
Name: wampmariadb
...
Action: service; Service: wampapache; ServiceAction: startresume; Flags: ignoreerrors
Action: service; Service: wampmysqld; ServiceAction: startresume; Flags: ignoreerrors
Action: service; Service: wampmariadb; ServiceAction: startresume; Flags: ignoreerrors
Only do this on new installs
Even after that wampserver does not start or does not start the services. To repair: stop the background process AeTrayMenu, head over to the folder c:\wamp64 removing its content and reinstall.
This did the trick for me.

GDB - unable to get command history working

I'm new to GDB and can't get the command history (auto complete/up arrow to old commands working).
At my root I have a .gbd_init file (and I also have an identical file in my working directory):
set history save
set history filename ~/.gbd_history
set history on
set history expansion on
I also have an empty .gbd_history file at my root.
In GBD 'show history' gives:
(gdb) show history
expansion: History expansion on command input is on.
filename: The filename in which to record the command history is
"/home/jenny/C_Programs/CS575_Algorithms/HW3/Problem1/.gdb_history".
save: Saving of the history record on exit is on.
size: The size of the command history is unlimited.
(gdb)
But the GBD command 'show commands' yields nothing and the up-arrows and tab don't do anything.
The .gbd_history file exists but is empty.
jenny#jennys-virtual-machine ~/C_Programs/CS575_Algorithms/HW3/Problem1 $ ls -ls .gbd*
0 -rwxrwxrwx 1 jenny jenny 0 Oct 1 22:16 .gbd_history
4 -rwxrwxrwx 1 jenny jenny 94 Oct 1 22:01 .gbdinit
What am I missing?
Thanks for any help. Typing in each command is getting old fast.
Jenny
At my root I have a .gbd_init file (and I also have an identical file
in my working directory):
You have misspelled gdb init file name. It should be named .gdbinit. .gbd_init is not get executed by gdb and history saving is not turned on.
Your .gdbinit script obviously is not executed, as you can see from your gdb_history filename, which has it's default value (gdb_history in current directory).
Try executing this init script in your current directory with gdb -x .gdbinit, as it may be disabled by default. At least my gdb wants me to set some kind of auto-load safe-path before it will allow loading of init scripts residing outside of home directory. See details here.
If you are looking to use history only to not have to repeat commands, you should probably just write a script with all those commands, and execute it with gdb -x script etc.
And surely check this SO thread on how to enable command history easily.

Qt Creator, ptrace: Operation not permitted. What is the permanent solution?

While debugging C++ code in Qt creator I get the following error
ptrace: Operation not permitted.
Could not attach to the process. Make sure no other debugger traces this process.
Check the settings of
/proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
For more details, see /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf
Here a temporary solution is found: Receiving error while trying to debug in QtProject
temporary solution (won't survive a reboot):
echo 0 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
But it is difficult to run the same code in terminal every time when I start my PC to use Qt.
What is the permanent solution for this?
If running Ubuntu,
The recommended way to enable the needed ptrace kernel setting (hinted by qtcreator) is to edit /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf
sudo vim /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf
Then change
kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 1
to
kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 0
Save,
then apply:
$ sudo sysctl --system -a -p|grep yama
kernel.yama.ptrace_scope = 0
run
man sysctl
for more info.
I got the answer.
Go to the location /etc with root privilege.
Find the file rc.local.
Open it in a text editor like gedit and add the following code
there
echo 0 | tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
Restart your pc and you can see the debugger working perfectly.
I found the answer that works for me on ubuntu in below link and the credit goes to dstzcxr

Just uncheck (or check - run - uncheck if it is for some reason
unchecked) the box "Run in terminal" in "Projects" (on the left bar) -
"Run" tab - "Run" section.

Child_info_fork error running code on cygwin [duplicate]

I recently reinstalled Cygwin on my computer in order to get access to several command line elements that I was missing. I have never had previous difficulty with Cygwin, but after this reinstallation, an error message continues to appear after (almost) each command entered. For instance:
-bash-4.1$ wc m1.txt
3 [main] bash 2216 child_info_fork::abort: data segment start: parent(0x26D000) != child(0x38D000)
-bash: fork: retry: Resource temporarily unavailable
2013930 4027950 74968256 m1.txt
Generally, the command still runs (as seen above), but not always. Occasionally, the 'error' message occurs several times in a row (the initial number "3" will then change to a "4" or "2", notably if I start a second Cygwin window.
Also, as soon as I start up Cygwin, I get the following message before the prompt:
3 [main] bash 6140 child_info_fork::abort: data segment start: parent(0x26D000) != child(0x36D000)
-bash: fork: retry: Resource temporarily unavailable
-bash: fork: Resource temporarily unavailable
-bash-4.1$
At the moment, I am debating whether to uninstall/reinstall Cygwin again or just live with the error messages, but I was curious if there might be an issue that I am unaware of.
(assuming Cygwin is installed at C:\Cygwin):
Open Task Manager and close any processes that look to be Cygwin related.
Open C:\Cygwin\bin in Windows Explorer
Verify that dash.exe, ash.exe, rebase.exe, and rebaseall exist in this folder
If any of them are missing, re-run Cygwin setup and select the dash, ash, and rebase packages
right-click your C:\Cygwin folder, uncheck Read-only (if its checked), and press OK.
When an error about not being able to switch some files comes up, select "Ignore All". Wait for this process to complete.
Browse to C:\Cygwin\bin in Windows Explorer
Right click dash.exe and click "Run as Administrator". A command Prompt should appear with nothing but a $
Type /usr/bin/rebaseall -v, hit enter, and wait for the process to complete.
If you get errors about Cygwin processes running, try Step 1 again. If that still doesn't work, Restart your computer into safe mode and try these steps again.
A commenter noted that, depending on your settings, you may have to type cd /usr/bin && ./rebaseall -v instead.
Try opening Cygwin again.
This process worked for me. I hope it works for you guys too.

I would like to add the following to the above answers, as it is what I had to do after reinstalling Cygwin:
Navigate to the "/usr/bin" directory (usually, C:\cygwin\bin) and right click, Run as Administrator the file: dash.exe
Then, at the $ prompt type the following, hitting enter after each line:
cd /usr/bin/
/usr/bin/peflags * -d 1
/usr/bin/rebaseall -v
What it does is, it marks the dll's as "rebase-able," and then rebases them. You have to have peflags.exe in addition to the above files (in previous answers). You may have to restart windows after doing this and you will definitely need to make sure that there are no processes nor services belonging to cygwin running. (Use task manager, kill any related processes, and then under the services tab look for any service starting with CYG and stop it.)
After doing this, I was able to get cygwin to run without any errors about dll's being loaded to the wrong addresses aka fork errors, etc.
I hope that this helps others, as it was a pain to find.
SOURCE: http://www.cygwin.com/faq.html#faq.using.fixing-fork-failures
and the rebase README file.
To add on to other answers here, we ran into the same issue but could not run the rebase command from the ash or dash shell. However, when launching the command from the Windows cmd shell, the following worked.
cmd /c "C:\cygwin64\bin\ash.exe /usr/rebaseall -v"
-v is to get verbose output
I found another information here :
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2014-02/msg00531.html
You have to delete the database at
/etc/rebase.db* and do in a "ash" windows :
peflags * -d 1
rebaseall
It works for me on 2 servers.
I solved this problem by restarting my computer. Probably installed a driver update and kept using sleep instead of shutting down.
Experienced the same issue when loading Cygwin with cygiconv-2.dll forking and not loading successfully in the Cygwin terminal, but after turning off my AntiVirus (it was specifically Ad-aware), the issue resolved, and Cygwin worked properly.
In case you are using babun's Cygwin, after rebaseall, try launching Cygwin by executing .babun\cygwin\cygwin.bat in a Windows command prompt or Windows explorer.
This works for me (while launching babun's default console - mintty results in fork error).
I had the error on win10 and i was trying to rebase to c: before install.
then i saw that the installer was installing it instead to c:/Users/myuser
so i was coping all files from c:/Users/myuser to c:.badun
and then restart plus open badun.bat
not shure if this was wise its now duplicated XD... but then it worked again.
Rebaseing didn't help in my case. In addition to what other people suggested, I noticed that reducing the length of PATH environment variable fixed the issue for me (and for other people as well as can be seen from this answer).
This issue is intermittent in nature & I found this issue when there is network is too slow to connect to remote machine on AWS.... I have Shell script that runs through Gitbash shell & it connects to AWS EC2 instance with ssh..... Most of the time, it ran correctly but 2 out 100 times it get into this issue bash: fork: retry: Resource temporarily unavailable .... Killing the MSYS2 terminal from task manager helps to overcome with this issue....
Negative side is you need to run the scripts from the beginning...
I had the same issue on Windows 10 and the mobaxterm app (which uses cygwin) and I tried all of answers listed here however for me, the solution was to simply delete the "CryptoPro CSP" application.
I started facing this problem after upgrading to windows 10. As of now I do not see that any of the above method working.
What I am noticing is that if you start cygwin with admin right (right click and say "run as admin") then it works fine.
Or you open cmd as administrator and then launch cygwin from there, then also it runs fine.
Just reinstall cygwin and select TCL and activate EXPECT
