I am trying to compile a sample project for a browser plugin (http://pushingtheweb.com/2010/06/boilerplate-for-a-npapi-plugin/) using xcode 3.2.6 on Snow Leopard.
I have never used xcode before.
When I try to build I get an error with an include (AE/AERegistry.h: No such file or directory)
When I click on the file it takes me to the header file AE.h (which is in folder /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/AE.framework/Versions/A/Headers) and has the lines:
ifndef __AEREGISTRY__
include <AE/AERegistry.h>
endif
Firstly I dont know how to find out why AE.h is included in the build as I cant see it "included" anywhere.
Secondly why cant it find AERegistry.h which is in four separate locations on the computer?
I manually added one of the folders to the Header paths but it made no difference.
Why is it AE/AEReistry when it is not in a folder AE?

You'll have to go into the build settings, find "compiler flags"(CFLAGS), and add something like:
-I/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/AE.framework/Versions/A/Headers
And then do:
#include <AERegistry.h>

I just started using VSCode on linux Ubuntu environment and for past one day trying to include some header files from a sub-Directory (the project screen shot is shown below).
I have tired adding the header file path in include path but showing error.(Image below)
I also tired by provided complete path e.g. /home/user/Work/Cpp_Test_Project/OpenFace/FaceAnalyser/include/ still it couldn't find the header file.
Also, If I try to include the header with local path e.g.
#include <OpenFace/LandmarkDetector/LandmarkCoreIncludes.h
then all the internally linked header file doesn't work.
any help will be highly appreciated.
The c_cpp_properties.json file is for configuring IntelliSense. The compiler you are using does not read from this file, so you will need to configure the include path for that separately. From what you have posted, it is unclear how you have set up your build.
I have the following project layout in Code::Blocks 13.12. I'm running as root.
Notice the file dtconfig.h is in the Headers folder.
The file is located in the same directory as the main.cpp file:
However, when I go to build I get the following error:
When I wrap the include in quotes, such as:
#include "dtconfig.h"
It works, but then I have to modify all the other headers to do the same thing. These headers are not something I have written and are part of a source project. So I don't want to go messing around with these files if I don't have to.
Is there anything I need to do/configure in the program to get this to work?
Also, I am running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Mate.
You're not meant to use angle brackets (<dtconfig.h>) for your own project's code, but if you need to make them work without changing every file, then you can pass an option to the compiler telling it to use your dtSearch directory as an include directory.
I don't know whether C::B supports include directories in the GUI, but you can always fall back to passing -Ipath/to/dtSearch to GCC and Clang directly, or /I for MSVC. You can do this where C::B lets you specify additional command line options for the compiler.
I'm using Xcode (with C++) and my project layout (in the file system, not in Xcode) looks like this:
SubfolderA
-file_A_1, file_A_2
SubfolderB
-file_B_1, file_B_2
Right now I've set up this structure in Xcode via groups. And so, when I want to include file_A_2 in file_B_1, I write #include "file_A_2" in file_B_1.
Is there some way to make an inclusion look like #include "/SubfolderA/file_A_2", so that I can easily see to what directory/subfolder an included file belongs?
One way to see what's going on is to look at the Build Log and expand the line for compiling sourcefile.m. Look at the -I options being passed to the compiler.
If it's not to your liking you can add the source tree in the Build Settings > Header Search Paths to include $(ProjectDir)/srcroot and make it recursive, which saves you from adding each sub-folder individually.
In my experience this has never been necessary, however, as far as I can remember.
As far as the Xcode folders are concerned, if the top-level source folder is added then all sub-folders are automatically added when you add them to the filesystem, saving the hassle of keeping them in sync. You might need to add the top-level folder under the Source Files group for this to work, however.
Surprisingly, in Xcode's Build Settings I've added to User Header Search Paths non-recursive path to my project. This solved my problem.
I ended up here when I was having an issue with XCode while trying to include a header in a group by doing
#include "MyGroup/MyHeader.h"
Turns out the project structure and the file system weren't in sync, so I just had to remove my group from the project, put it in the correct place in Finder, then drag and drop it back into the project in the correct place and it worked for me.
I'm not sure if this is necessary or not, but I also have already set up my app's working directory because I am doing some game programming and need to be able to load in .png and make textures.
I'm a complete beginner with Code::Blocks and SQLite, and have some basic knowledge with C++. I'm currently using Ubuntu 11.04.
I have downloaded SQLite Amalgamation here. When I extracted the zip file, there are four files inside: shell.c, sqlite3.c, sqlite3.h, and sqlite3ext.h. If I simply add those files to a (for example) a console project, it gives out an error: the .c's of the downloaded sqlite each have their own main function. Removing those from the project, the errors are gone and I can call #include "sqlite3.h". I am trying to follow this, and tried the first two lines of code from here and it gives out an error: undefined reference to sqlite3_open.
I think adding those .h's directly to a console project isn't the right way to use it, though I'm not sure.
How exactly should I use those? What should I do to use those for my C++ program?
Any help is greatly appreciated. :)
EDIT: I also tried to create a .a file of those sqlite files by following this. When I try it, it gives out an error: cannot find -lsqlite.
I got it! Though there was something that I did that caused problems.. I forget to remove the .a file that I added at Project > Build Options > Linker Settings earlier, which caused problems..
Here are the steps I made to add SQLite: (for those that might have the same problems)
Copy the files extracted from the SQLite Amalgamation to the directory of the project.
Add the sqlite files (Project > Add Files) EXCEPT the shell.c (it is the one that causes the multiple function error)
Compile it (Yes, a simple Ctrl+f9).
here are errors: undefined reference to pthread_mutexattr..... These are fixed by going to Project > Build Options > Highlight 'the Project Name' above Debug and Release at the top left corner > Linker settings, and adding "-lpthread" (without quotes) to Other linker options:.
Some more errors are found: undefined reference to dlopen, dlerror..... Add '"-ldl"' just below the '"-lpthread"' added earlier.
DONE :)
I didn't find a complete answer for Windows as a beginner, and at the beginning it is very painful to understand everything. So here's what worked for me.
Download the SQlite Amalgamation file.
Open Code::Blocks -> New Project -> Choose static library
Unzip the file you have downloaded and copy the folder/contents to your new project directory. Add all the files to the project and build the project.
You will find a ProjectName.a file in the bin/Debug or bin/Release directory. Copy that file to your actual SQlite project directory.
Go to Code::Blocks Project->Build options. Select 'Linker Settings' tab and add the path to the .a file. Don't close it yet!!!
In 'Search Directories' tab, select the 'Compiler' tab, add the path to the Amalgamation header files, or copy the header files to your directory (you can add the header files to your project) and in the 'Linker' tab add the path to the .a file
Now Compile!!! Hopefully this will run

You will need to compile the sqlite code first, and then just #include "sqlite3.h" into your project where you need it.
UPD:
Try this:
Download this package from sqlite site and extract it somewhere, say, into a folder called "sqlite". Open terminal, and go into this folder. Inside of it, run
./configure
sudo make
sudo make install
and see what happens. It should build itself automatically. Consult the README file that is inside the archive too.
I'm trying to port over a project I initially wrote in Windows to OS X and am having some difficulty with the header search paths.
I've used user search paths to include by source folder "project/src/core/"
Under core, I have, for example:
"projects/src/core/sys/sys_sdl.h"
which tries to include
"projects/src/core/render/opengl_render.h"
with the directive:
#include "render/opengl_render.h"
I've tried tons of different options, but I can't get seem to get Xcode to find the file unless I change it to "../render/opengl_render.h"
Is there something I'm missing here in the settings to get it to recognize relative paths to the header search paths?
Did you try setting the User Header Search Path to $SRCROOT/..? $SRCROOT is the directory that contains the target's source files, so $SRCROOT/.. should be the directory above that, which I think is what you want.
