I'm trying to delete a font file using this way,
std::filesystem::remove(std::filesystem::path("C:\\Windows\\Fonts\\segmdl2.ttf"));
But this fails and throw an exception,
filesystem:error cannot remove: Input/output error
The exception is not helpful. What's the correct way to delete this kind of files?
Update,
I made an attempt to delete it from Powershell and it throw following error,
del C:\Windows\Fonts\segmdl2.ttf
del : Cannot remove item C:\Windows\Fonts\segmdl2.ttf: Access to the path 'C:\Windows\Fonts\segmdl2.ttf' is denied.
At line:1 char:1
+ del C:\Windows\Fonts\segmdl2.ttf

+ CategoryInfo : PermissionDenied: (C:\Windows\Fonts\segmdl2.ttf:FileInfo) [Remove-Item], UnauthorizedAcc
essException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : RemoveFileSystemItemUnAuthorizedAccess,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.RemoveItemCommand
I even tried to remove it directly from font folder, I'm getting an error that it can't be done because an another application already using the font.
But I was successfully able to delete it from the command prompt.
How does cmd do this?
I need to achieve same level for my app.
The error happened because I don't have permission to delete the file and in some cases it happened because the file already opened by another process.
To fix permission issue, I had to invoke the following commands from command promot,
takeown /f C:\Windows\Fonts /r /d y
icacls C:\Windows\Fonts /grant administrators:F /t
To fix the issue when the file owned by another processs, I've found an application called IOBitUnlocker that capable of doing this without closing the processs so I decided to dig more into it.
I've reverse engineered IOBitUnlocker. They are using a Kernel Mode Driver and uses KeStackAttachProcess to attach into the process that owns the file and unlock it.
I am lucky enough to find an article with complete code that describe how to use this API to unlock the file.
https://www.programmersought.com/article/96107379969/
This method superior because you don't have to close the applications or reboot your machine. Altho, you have to sign the kernel mode driver or disable the driver validation directly from your BIOS.

Based on the Return Code 81 / Reason Code 0594003D the pathname can't be resolved.
the message IGD17501I explains the error. You'll find more information looking up the Reason Code 0594003D.
You can use BPXMTEXT to lookup more detail on the Reason Code.
Executing this command in USS you'll see:
$ bpxmtext 0594003D

Action: One of the directories specified was not found. Verify that the name

Per #phunsoft adding that the same command can be executed in TSO and is not case sensitive like USS.
I'd suspect that /ka7a doesn't exist. Is it a case issue? Or perhaps you meant /u/ka7a/ or `/home/ka7a' ?
I recently added ripgrep to my list of vim plugins and, immediately after installation, I began receiving this error message whenever I loaded up vim:
Error detected while processing /Users/my_macbook/.vim/plugged/vim-ripgrep/plugin/vim-ripgrep.vim:
line 149: E1208: -complete used without -nargs
Press ENTER or type command to continue
Opening the offending file and reviewing lines 148-149 reveals:
148 command! -nargs=* -complete=file Rg :call s:Rg(<q-args>)
149 command! -complete=file RgRoot :call s:RgShowRoot()
I am well & truly out of my depth here, especially considering that this error was generated by simply installing the plugin; I've made 0 changes to the underlying file (vim-ripgrep.vim).
Has anyone encountered a similarly chronic error after installing ripgrep and, if so, how did you resolve it?
Congratulations, you have found a bug in a FOSS program. Next step is to either notify the maintainer via their issue tracker or, if you know how to fix it, submit a patch.
Case in point, the author assigns a completion method, -complete=file, but custom commands like :RgRoot don't accept arguments by default so the command makes no sense as-is: you can't complete arguments if you can't pass arguments.
It only needs a -nargs=*, like its upstairs neighbour, :Rg, to work properly and the error message is pretty clear about it:
line 149: E1208: -complete used without -nargs
See :help -complete, :help -nargs, and more generally, :help user-commands.
As the other answer stated, it is a bug in this plugin. There is a currently open pull request to fix this: https://github.com/jremmen/vim-ripgrep/pull/58 Unfortunately, the repository is currently unmaintained, so it is unlikely to be merged any time soon. This active forks page may help you identify a new maintainer.
Until there is a new maintainer for vim-ripgrep, I suggest checking out that branch in your ~/.vim/plugged/vim-ripgrep directory and reopening vim.
I met the functionally same error on VIM plugins while using vim ~/.vimrc.
My met error liking yours:
Error detected while processing /Users/my_macbook/.vim/plugged/vim-ripgrep
/plugin/vim-ripgrep.vim:
I fixed the upstairs with the below:
cd /Users/my_macbook/.vim/plugged/vim-ripgrep/plugin/
git pull --rebase
END!
If you are using vim-plug, try to change
Plug "jremmen/vim-ripgrep"
to
Plug "miyase256/vim-ripgrep", {'branch': 'fix/remove-complete-from-RgRoot'}
Here are detail steps:
comment Plug "jremmen/vim-ripgrep"
:PlugClean
add Plug "miyase256/vim-ripgrep", {'branch': 'fix/remove-complete-from-RgRoot'}
:PlugInstall
I am stuck in a loop and cannot find a way to get out of it, i.e. stop the failing installation of the container. No matter how I cleared after reboot I get the same error again and again:
"warning 'W_EXPANDED_BASE_IMAGE_EXISTS': An expanded base image by name 'BaseImage-15063'
already exists"
and
"DesktopAppConverter : error 'E_EXPANDED_BASEIMG_INVALID': ExpandedBaseImage at
'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Images\BaseImage-15063' is not a container image"
I renamed the BaseImage folder to force the process to start cleanly but that did not help; it again failed.
Now I have several huge BaseImage folders.
How do I get rid of these image folder/files which did NOT disappear with any clear command.
Trying to get rid of them as administrator running cmd.exe does not work either: access denied.
I have a c++ program that run a command and pass some arguments to it. The code is as follow:
int RunApplication(fs::path applicationPathName,std::string arguments)
{
std::string applicationShortPath=GetShortFileName(applicationPathName);
std::string cmd="\""+applicationShortPath +"\" "+ arguments+" >>log.txt 2>&1 \"";
std::cout<<cmd<<std::endl;
int result=std::system(cmd.c_str());
return result;
}
When I run system command, the cmd window appears shortly and then closes, but the result is 1 and the cmd was not run (the command should generate output which is not generated).
To check that the cmd is correct, I stopped the application just before system line and copy/ paste cmd content to a cmd window and it worked.
I am wondering how can I find why application is not run in system()?
the cmd has this value just before running it:
"D:/DEVELO~3/x64/Debug/enfuse.exe" -w --hard-mask --exposure-weight=1 --saturation-weight=0.328 --contrast-weight=0.164 -o "C:/Users/m/AppData/Local/Temp/1.tif" "C:/Users/m/AppData/Local/Temp/1.jpg" "C:/Users/m/AppData/Local/Temp/2.jpg" >>log.txt 2>&1 "
How can I find why it is not working?
Is there any way that I set the system so it doesn't close cmd window so I can inspect it?
is there any better way to run a command on OS?
Does Boost has any solution for this?
Edit
After running it with cmd /k, I get this error message:
The input line is too long.
How can I fix it other than reducing cmd line?
There are two different things here: if you have to start a suprocess, "system" is not the best way of doing it (better to use the proper API, like CreateProcess, or a multiplatform wrapper, but avoid to go through the command interpreter, to avoid to open to potential malware injection).
But in this case system() is probably the right way to go since you in fact need the command interpreter (you cannot manage things like >>log.txt 2>&1 with only a process creation.)
The problem looks like a failure in the called program: may be the path is not correct or some of the files it has to work with are not existent or accessible with appropriate-permission and so on.
One of the firt thing to do: open a command prompt and paste the string you posted, in there. Does it run? Does it say something about any error?
Another thing to check is how escape sequence are used in C++ literals: to get a '\', you need '\\' since the first is the escape for the second (like \n, or \t etc.). Although it seems not the case, here, it is one of the most common mistakes.
Use cmd /k to keep the terminal: http://ss64.com/nt/cmd.html
Or just spawn cmd.exe instead and inspect the environment, permissions, etc. You can manually paste that command to see whether it would work from that shell. If it does, you know that paths, permssions and environment are ok, so you have some other issue on your hands (argument escaping, character encoding issues)

Boost.Process is not official yet http://www.highscore.de/boost/process/
I have a quick question, should be relatively simple for those who have some more experience in WMI-command processor than I do (and since I'm an absolute beginner thats not hard :-) )
I fail to understand why wmic /format switch works the way it does. I open up cmd.exe and type
wmic process list brief /format:htable > processlist.html
this does exactly what I want and no bothers further on. Whereas if I go to wmic processor, and try to execute the same command exactly as above...
wmic:root\cli>process list brief /format:htable > processlist.html
I receive the error tag: "Invalid XSL format (or) file name."
Here goes the screenshot. Note I have already copied XSL files from wbem to sys32 dir
Can someone explain to me why these 2 commands that for me look exactly the same, with the only difference that one is executed outside wmic environment and the other one is from inside, the latter one doesn't work? I just fail to understand it.
Please advise so I can comprehend this a bit better! :-)
Try this
copy /y %WINDIR%\system32\wbem\en-US\*.xsl %WINDIR%\system32\
And then
wmic:root\cli>process list brief /format:htable.xsl > processlist.html
Note the presence of the extension after "htable"
You are attempting to use CMD.EXE > redirection while you are within the interactive WMIC context. That can't work.
You can use the WMIC /output:filename switch while in interactive mode. Each subsequent command will overwrite the output of the previous command. You can get multiple commands to go to the same file by using /append:filename instead. You can reset the output back to stdout using /output:stdout.
/output:processlist.html
process list brief /format:htable
/output:stdout
Did you try specifying a full path in the wmic:root\cli>process call? My bets are that the first worked because it output the file to the current directory.
