I am going through Charles Petzold - Programming Windows(5th Edition) Chapter 3. I have an error stating that PlaySound function is undefined. In there some sort of header file I need to include to use this function?

I've Been trying to fix this code for days now. When I try to compile main.cpp It gives me the error C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\cckKRlpR.o:main.cpp:(.text+0x26f): undefined reference to TextOutA#20'. I've also tried including gdi32.lib and lgdi32 but It still gives me the error. If you know how to solve this problem please tell me. Here's The source code btw:

Based on the "Layered Windows":
After the CreateWindowEx call, the layered window will not become
visible until the SetLayeredWindowAttributes or
UpdateLayeredWindow function has been called for this window.
The following is an example to make the layered window visible (show up):
HWND hWnd = CreateWindowExA(WS_EX_LAYERED, g_szClassName, "Scenes", WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, NULL, NULL,
hInstance, NULL);
SetLayeredWindowAttributes(hWnd, NULL, 255, LWA_ALPHA);
if (!hWnd)
{
return FALSE;
}
ShowWindow(hWnd, nCmdShow);
UpdateWindow(hWnd);
Update:
Another cause for this issue is RegisterClassExW is not called (in RegisterClass1), this will cause CreateWindow fails with returning NULL window handle. So error checking is very important.
I am new to Win32 API and trying to learn it. I was successful to create a window and it works perfectly.
I added a button to it and want to show a message box when clicked. The button works perfectly but the message box in WM_COMMAND does not appear at all and the code below message box does not get executed as well.
I have checked online for how to do it and it seems to work for them but not me.
Here is the code
#include <Windows.h>

Edit 1:
Here is a small video of what exactly happens.
Error Video
Note : I passed hWnd parameter in this instead of NULL. Passing hWnd as first Parameter does not help either.
The issue was my half-implemented WM_Paint. Uncommenting the BeginPaint line solves the problem.
or, passing it directly to DefWindowProc as return DefWindowProc(hWnd, message, wParam, lParam); works too.
I recently decided to learn a bit of WinApi, but I hit a snag. I want to display a massage in my window after a keypress, but it doesn't seem to work. If I press the key multiple times or if I hold it down, still nothing happens. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Windows sends WM_KEYDOWN message when a key is pressed. In WndProc handle WM_KEYDOWN message, call InvalidateRect with the Client rect of the window and draw the text you want to display in WM_PAINT message handler.
Here's my example, if pressed F11 key, print in console string.:
case WM_KEYDOWN:
if(wParam==VK_F11)
{
std::cout << "Hello in my example!";
}
break;
I have two icons (.ico files). A big 32x32 one and another small 16x16.
I'm trying to set the hIcon of my WNDCLASSEX to be the big one, and hIconSm to the smaller one. Yet I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that! I first tried LoadIcon:
wndclass.hIcon = LoadIcon(instance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_SKELETON));
wndclass.hIconSm = LoadIcon(instance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_SKELETON_SM));
It always loads the same icon for both the top window bar and the taskbar. Same thing with LoadImage.
Here's all the codes:
Resource.h
#define IDI_SKELETON 1000
#define IDI_SKELETON_SM 1001
Skeleton.rc
#include "Resource.h"
