I have a django setup which does not include any models or data base. It is just simple HTML, JAVAscript and python. It seems like django is not cleaning up the previous run data. How to cleanup data from forms after every run? I am not making use of sessions also. I am new to django and don;t have much time to learn sessions and implement things. Can any one give a solution on how to cleanup data after every run?
Use clear method to remove dictionary elements. Because django holds old values too. Not sure why, but this isn't the case with normal python scripts.
you have to clean the form via javascript than. The code below might get you some idea.
<body>
<form id="newForm">
Student Name<br><input type="text" name="sname"><br>
Student Subject<br><input type="password" name="ssubject"><br>
<input type="button" onclick="clear()" value="Submit">
</form>
<script>
function clear() {
document.getElementById("newForm").reset();
}
</script>

I have a django register form .On the event of an invalid form submission, page is reloading.I need to stay on that same page if the data entered is invalid.
Is there any way to get this done without ajax ?
If not, how to do this with ajax
Well if you want to validate the data before submitting then you can just use plain javascript to validate the values and update your html displaying output as shown below.
Consider this below form.
<form>
<input id="target" type="text" value="">
</form>
<div id="other">
Trigger the handler
</div>
Use below script
<script>
$("#target").keyup(function () {
console.log(this.value);
});
</script>
In above script once you get the value you can write the logic to valid the same and update you result in html accordingly.
NOTE: Main point here is the event handler as you type anything it calls the function.
Obviously this may not be the best way to achieve this but consider this as demonstration.
I have a list.gsp which loads a template .
Actually the template contains which loads the data from the domain class.
Every 10 seconds I want to refresh the template only, so that it gets latest data from the db. How can i do this?
There are several ways to solve this but all of them require Ajax. I'll give one example:
Suppose the following HTML:
<div class="content">
... other content here
<div id="template">
<g:render template="someTemplate" ... />
</div>
... other content here
</div>
Then this javascript:
setInterval(refreshTemplateEveryTenSeconds, 10000);
function refreshTemplateEveryTenSeconds() {
$('#template').load("/some/server/resource");
}
See the jquery load docs for more info on this.
Obviously, if you're not using jQuery then modify to do the ajax call as your technology would suggest. But this gives you a general idea of how you might approach the problem.
I am using Django and Bootrap 2.32. I want to include this wysiwyg-bootrap-themed text editor: http://mindmup.github.io/bootstrap-wysiwyg/. The usage of this editor is fairly simple, including
$('#editor').wysiwyg();
in the JS-declaration will render each
<div class=editor></div>
into a beatiful wysiwyg text-editor.
Now the problem: I want to include this editor into one of my django form field. I have the single form:
class Article_Form(ModelForm):
Article_text = CharField(widget=Textarea(attrs = {'id' : 'editor'}))
class Meta:
model= Article
, whereas the Article model includes one simple CharField . Is there any chance, to get the editor work inside the Article_text form-field? With the above-mentioned widget, the created textarea cannot be controlled by the wysiwyg-editor-control buttons. Wrapping the form-template-tag like this
<div id="editor">
{{ Article_Form.Article_text }}
</div>
doesn't work either. The problem thus is that Django creates a textarea, wheras the editor would need a <div> to render correctly. Do you guys have any idea how to get this to work (without refering to django-wysiwyg).
Thanks!
I don't know enough about Django but I wrote the editor you're referring to, so here's a suggestion. Assuming the other answer on this page is correct and you can't generate a div directly, you can generate a text area using whatever Django templates you would normally do, then assign two events:
1) page onload event that would copy the textarea contents into the div, something like
$('#editor').html($('#textarea').val())
2) form onsubmit event that would reverse copy the current div contents into the textarea before it gets submitted
$('#textarea').val($('#editor').html())
Take a look at this.
Summernote is a simple WYSIWYG editor based on Twitter's Bootstrap.
django-summernote plugin allows you to embed Summernote into your Django admin page very handy.
https://github.com/lqez/django-summernote
Are you sure that this "plugin" doesn't work with textarea?
{{ Article_Form.Article_text }}
will be rendered to something like:
<textarea cols="40" id="id_Article_text" name="Article_text" rows="10"></textarea>
So there is a chance that you can initialize the wysiwyg editor like:
$('#id_Article_text').wysiwyg();
However after checking the plugin, I doubt that would be possible since it is using contenteditable="true" attribute of HTML5 and probably the plugin works with div only.
So there is no way you can make it work natively with Django form. The solution should be display other fields of your form manually, hide the one with textarea and display the editor instead:
<form action="" method="POST">
{{ Article_Form.field1 }}
{{ Article_Form.field2 }}
<div class=editor></div>
{% csrf_token %}
<input type="submit" value="Submit" id="submit-btn" />
</form>
Then you can use JS to submit your form:
$('#submit-btn').click(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
$.ajax({
// do your magic here.
// note that you can get the content of the editor with: $('#editor').cleanHtml();
})
});
This way is hackish I agree so I don't recommend you go for it, just find other plugin then. Also please read PEP 8 carefully.
Hope it helps.

I think it solves most of your problems.
I have three templates in my project—we'll call them first.html, second.html, third.html.
first.html gets a string from the user, using an <input> tag:
<input type="radio" name="selection" value="example_string" />
second.html displays this string using {{selection}}. (In my views.py, I got the value using request.POST.get and render_to_response().)
The question is: how do I send this value from second.html to third.html? One of my attempts—using a <span> tag to save the information in a variable—is illustrated below, but it doesn't seem to work.
<span name="selection" value={{selection}}>{{selection}}</span>
Edit: The following line works by creating a dummy single radio button. I don't know why it shouldn't be possible to create a variable without an <input> tag [visible to the user].
<input type="radio" name="selected" value={{selected}} checked="checked" />
You need to understand how the web works: each page is entirely separate, and is requested using a separate request.
Your basic options are: save data on the client side, or post it back to the server.
Both options can be performed with javascript, or posting back can also be performed by posting the form back to the server.
If you want to send it back to the server, it will have to be stored in the current session, or in a model.
There are many javascript libraries. If you want to use them, I suggest you google around the subject.
Answering my own question, now that I've found the answer on Django's documentation.
There's a special kind of <input> tag precisely for this: "hidden". The following line accomplishes the same as was asked in the question, but without a dummy element visible to the user:
<input type="hidden" name="selected" value={{selected}} />
Using meteor.js and i am kind of stuck with the structure of template or how to do this trick as clear as possible.
Example of my chating app problem:
chatingWith = DB query for selecting each user i am chating with like on FB // REACTIVE
{{#each chatingWith}}
{{#each this.messages}}
Message1...
Message2...
{{/each}}
<form>
<input class="sendMessage" type="text" />
</form>
{{/each}}
This works exactly as i need but with one big problem... when new message arrive... the content is re-rendered ofc and when i am in this time writing a message the value of will dissapear.
How would you solve this?
Sorry for english and thx for tips!
There is a section in the documents about preserving inputs. http://docs.meteor.com/#template_preserve
From my understanding, as long as you have the package preserve-inputs installed, it should keep the reactive nature of meteor from erasing the input. I would check to see if the preserve-inputs package is installed.
