How to have the same XSLT namespace with different URIs? - xslt

I am building an RSS parser that takes in the media namespace's items.
Example 1:
<rss version="2.0" xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/">
<channel>
<title>Some channel</title>
<item>
<guid>234wwerwe</guid>
<title>Some title</title>
<media:description>test description 1</media:description>
<pubDate>Tue, 30 Jul 2019 19:24:00 +0000</pubDate>
</item>
</channel>
</rss>
Example 2:
<rss version="2.0" xmlns:media="http://www.rssboard.org/media-rss">
<channel>
<title>Some second channel</title>
<item>
<guid>234wwsdflkjl23we</guid>
<title>Some other title</title>
<media:description>test description 2</media:description>
<pubDate>Tue, 30 Jul 2019 19:24:00 +0000</pubDate>
</item>
</channel>
</rss>
I would like to convert this using the same xsl file but if I do something like the following:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="2.0" xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" xmlns:boardMedia="http://www.rssboard.org/media-rss">
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="rss/channel/item">
<item>
<xsl:element name="referenceId">
<xsl:value-of select="guid" />
</xsl:element>
<xsl:element name="title">
<xsl:value-of select="title" />
</xsl:element>
<xsl:element name="description">
<xsl:value-of select="media:description" />
<xsl:value-of select="boardMedia:description" />
</xsl:element>
<xsl:element name="itemPublishDate"><xsl:value-of select="pubDate" /></xsl:element>
</item>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
then it only successfully pulls the description for the first rss, not the second.
Any suggestions on how to do this in one xsl file?

As I mentioned in a comment, the problem cannot be reproduced using your code.
Note that you could simplify your code significantly:
XSLT 2.0
<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output method="xml" version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" indent="yes"/>
<xsl:template match="/rss">
<xsl:for-each select="channel/item">
<item>
<referenceId>
<xsl:value-of select="guid" />
</referenceId>
<title>
<xsl:value-of select="title" />
</title>
<description>
<xsl:value-of select="*:description" />
</description>
<itemPublishDate>
<xsl:value-of select="pubDate" />
</itemPublishDate>
</item>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
Demo: https://xsltfiddle.liberty-development.net/bFN1yan/1

If you really want to merge these two description elements with your XSLT, you can try the following stylesheet (naming your second XML file example_2.xml):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="2.0" xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/"
xmlns:boardMedia="http://www.rssboard.org/media-rss">
<xsl:variable name="file2" select="document('example_2.xml')" /> <!-- Added to include the second file -->
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="rss/channel/item">
<item>
<xsl:element name="referenceId">
<xsl:value-of select="guid" />
</xsl:element>
<xsl:element name="title">
<xsl:value-of select="title" />
</xsl:element>
<xsl:element name="description">
<xsl:value-of select="media:description" />
<xsl:value-of select="$file2/rss/channel/item/boardMedia:description" />
</xsl:element>
<xsl:element name="itemPublishDate"><xsl:value-of select="pubDate" /></xsl:element>
</item>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
Its result is rather odd:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<item xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" xmlns:boardMedia="http://www.rssboard.org/media-rss">
<referenceId>234wwerwe</referenceId>
<title>Some title</title>
<description>test description 1test description 2</description>
<itemPublishDate>Tue, 30 Jul 2019 19:24:00 +0000</itemPublishDate>
</item>
But that seems to be the result you like.

Generate XML and JSON file using single XSLT

I already have an XSLT which takes XML input, transforms it and gives me XML output.
But is there a way where I can use same XSLT, and fetch the transformed XML output and convert it into JSON.
Here is a small and artificial example that you could use as your starting point:
Input XML
<root>
<item id="1">
<name>Alpha</name>
<value>101</value>
</item>
<item id="2">
<name>Bravo</name>
<value>2.25</value>
</item>
<item id="3">
<name>Charlie</name>
<value>33</value>
</item>
</root>
XSLT 2.0
<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output method="xml" version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" indent="yes"/>
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:variable name="output-xml">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:variable>
<!-- write XML to output file -->
<xsl:copy-of select="$output-xml"/>
<!-- produce a JSON file as additional output -->
<xsl:result-document href="json.txt" method="text">
<xsl:apply-templates select="$output-xml" mode="json"/>
</xsl:result-document>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="root">
<array>
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</array>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="item">
<object name="{name}">
<xsl:value-of select="value"/>
</object>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="array" mode="json">
<!-- array -->
<xsl:text>[
</xsl:text>
<xsl:apply-templates mode="json"/>
<xsl:text>
]</xsl:text>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="object" mode="json">
<!-- object -->
<xsl:text> {"</xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="#name"/>
<xsl:text>" : </xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
<xsl:text>}</xsl:text>
<xsl:if test="position()!=last()">
<xsl:text>,
</xsl:text>
</xsl:if>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
XML Output
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<array>
<object name="Alpha">101</object>
<object name="Bravo">2.25</object>
<object name="Charlie">33</object>
</array>
Output file "json.txt"
[
{"Alpha" : 101},
{"Bravo" : 2.25},
{"Charlie" : 33}
]

How to correctly implement the if-else condition in XSLT?

I have XML in which there is a ContactRecords node:

I am writing an XSLT which has a handling of a ContactRecords node:
<xsl:transform version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:element name="Organisations">
<xsl:for-each select="Organisations/Organisation">
<xsl:element name="{name(.)}">
<xsl:for-each select="*[not(name()='ContactRecords')]">
<xsl:copy select="*">
<xsl:value-of select="normalize-space(.)"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:for-each>
<xsl:for-each select="ContactRecords/item">
<xsl:choose>
<xsl:when test="Address">
<h2>mooooooooooooo</h2>
</xsl:when>
<xsl:otherwise>
<h2>dooooooooooooo</h2>
</xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:choose>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:transform>
I am now getting the following result:
<h2>dooooooooooooo</h2>
<h2>dooooooooooooo</h2>
<h2>dooooooooooooo</h2>
I expect to receive:
<h2>mooooooooooooo</h2>
<h2>mooooooooooooo</h2>
<h2>dooooooooooooo</h2>
What am I doing wrong?
If I explain the algorithm in words, then I need the following: if there is an Address element in the item element, then we do logic number 1. If there is no Address element in the item element, then we do logic number 2.
If we describe the algorithm in pseudocode, then this is how:
if (item.includes(Address)) {
do logic #1
} else {
do logic #2
}
UPD1: Updated XML and XSLT code
UPD2: Add namespaces in tags Address (maybe the reason is in them)
The Address element is in a namespace, so your test:
<xsl:when test="Address">
returns false every time. Try it this way (minimized to the current problem):
XSLT 1.0
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:ns0="http://www.v8.1c.ru/ssl/contactinfo"
exclude-result-prefixes="ns0">
<xsl:output method="xml" version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" indent="yes"/>
<xsl:template match="/Organisations">
<Organisations>
<xsl:for-each select="Organisation">
<xsl:copy>
<!-- omitted -->
<xsl:for-each select="ContactRecords/item">
<h2>
<xsl:choose>
<xsl:when test="ns0:Address">mooooooooooooo</xsl:when>
<xsl:otherwise>dooooooooooooo</xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:choose>
</h2>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:for-each>
</Organisations>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

to get the desired output in the form of
<Data>
<NodeItem>
<Number>123456789</Number>
<Country>GB</Country>
<Name>TEST NAME</Name>
<DataChanges>
<FieldItem Tag="AMOUNT" Value="22222"/>
<FieldItem Tag="CAT_TYPE" Value="20000"/>
</DataChanges>
</NodeItem>
</Data>
But I am getting the output xml as
<Data>
<NodeItem>
<Number>123456789</Number>
<Country>GB</Country>
<Name>TEST NAME</Name>
<DataChanges>
<FieldItem Tag="AMOUNT" Value="11111 22222"/>
<FieldItem Tag="AMOUNT" Value="11111 22222"/>
<FieldItem Tag="CAT_TYPE" Value="10000 20000"/>
<FieldItem Tag="CAT_TYPE" Value="10000 20000"/>
</DataChanges>
</NodeItem>
</Data>
I need to get the latest AMOUNT entry and CAT_TYPE. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Couldn't this be (much) simpler?
XSLT 1.0 (or 2.0)
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"

</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="ArrayItem">

<xsl:template match="AMOUNT | CAT_TYPE">
<xsl:if test="position() = 1">

Result, when applied to your example input:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<Country>GB</Country>
<Name>TEST NAME</Name>

<FieldItem Tag="CAT_TYPE" Value="20000"/>
</DataChanges>

Transform to nest items within one list when source contains flat tagging

I have the following XML file:
<li id="s9781452281988.n39.i34"><i>See also</i>
<a class="term-ref" id="s9781452281988.n39.i6525" href="#s9781452281988.n39.i1899">Emotion</a>;
<a class="term-ref" id="s9781452281988.n39.i6526" href="#s9781452281988.n39.i3312">Interpersonal conflict</a></li>
And I want the output to be the following:
<item>See also
<list rend="runon">
<item><term>Emotion</term></item>
<item><term>Interpersonal conflict</term></item>
</list>
</item>
Basically if I have multiple a[#class='term-ref'], the first instance should start the list rend="runon" and subsequent a[#class='term-ref'] should be included as item/term within the list.
The below was my try, but it is not working as I had hoped, and is closing the list before the second item/term (elements which are also not being output):
<xsl:stylesheet
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
version="2.0">
<xsl:template match="li">
<xsl:element name="item">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="a[#class='term-ref'][1]">
<xsl:element name="list">
<xsl:attribute name="rend" select="'runon'"/>
<xsl:element name="item">
<xsl:element name="term">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:element>
<xsl:if test="a[#class='term-ref'][position() >1]">
<xsl:element name="item">
<xsl:element name="term">
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:if>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="li//text()">
<xsl:value-of select="translate(., '.,;', '')"/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
On the source, XML, the above stylesheet produces this output:
<item>See also
<list rend="runon">
<item><term>Emotion</term></item>
</list>
Interpersonal conflict</item>
Which is incorrect.
What am i doing wrong?
This short transformation (almost completely "push style", with no conditional instructions, no xsl:element and no unnecessary function calls like translate() or replace()):
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="yes"/>
<xsl:template match="li">
<item><xsl:apply-templates/></item>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="a[#class='term-ref'][1]">
<list rend="runon">
<xsl:apply-templates mode="group"
select="../a[#class='term-ref']"/>
</list>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="a[#class='term-ref']" mode="group">
<item><term><xsl:apply-templates/></term></item>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="a[#class='term-ref']|li/text()" priority="-1"/>
</xsl:stylesheet>
when applied on the provided XML document -- which is well-formed:
<li id="s9781452281988.n39.i34"><i>See also</i>

href="#s9781452281988.n39.i3312">Interpersonal conflict.</a>.
</li>
produces the wanted, correct result:
<item>See also<list rend="runon">
<item>
<term>Emotion</term>
</item>
<item>
<term>Interpersonal conflict.</term>
</item>
</list>

This should do what you are looking to do:

exclude-result-prefixes="xs"

</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="li//text()">
<xsl:value-of select="normalize-space(translate(., '.,;', ''))"/>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="a[#class = 'term-ref']" />
<xsl:template match="node()" mode="items" />
<xsl:template match="li" mode="items">

</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="li[count(a[#class = 'term-ref']) > 1]" mode="items">

When run on your sample input, this produces:

See also<list rend="runon">
<item>
<term>Emotion</term>
</item>
<item>
<term>Interpersonal conflict</term>

When run on an input file with just one a.term-ref, this produces:
<item>
See also<item>
