We use Kinesis Firehose to load data into a number of Redshift tables. There are monitors available to see successful deliveries. However, there is no monitor for checking if there are any errors in the delivery - the ones that get recorded to stl_load_errors table.
I do have an option to create a lambda that reads the stl_load_errors table and writes to cloudwatch metrics. But, I would like to know if there is any out of the box solution to monitor it.
Check the Firehose Redshift delivery stream metrics in the monitoring tab DeliveryToRedshift Success (Average) .

We have a service that outputs application logs to cloudwatch. We structure the logs into json format, and output them through stdout, which is forwarded by fluentbit to cloudwatch. We then have a stream set up to forward the logs from cloudwatch to s3, followed by glue crawlers, Athena, and quick sight for dashboards.
We go all this working, and I just saw today that there is a 256kb limit in cloudwatch which we went over for some of our application logs. How else can we get our logs out of our service to s3 (or maybe a different data store?) for analysis? Is cloudwatch not the right approach for this? Other option I thought of us to break up the application logs into multiple events, but then we need to plumb through a joinable ID, as well as write etl logic that does more complex joins. Was hoping to avoid it unless it’s considered a better practice than what we are doing.

I am monitoring our Serverless AWS Lambda application using Cloudwatch and Cloudwatch insights. In order to cut down cost on displaying errors and error graphs, I want to re-log our errors to an additional stream that is separate from all our normal interactions with our users.
I know you can add Cloudwatch subscriptions with filters, but when I try to use Kenesis Firehose, it only has those streaming to external log providers. What is the correct or best way to re-log these to another Cloudwatch stream if they meet a filter constraint?
I have an on-premise app deployed in an Application Server (e.g. Tomcat) and it generates its own log file. If I decide to migrate this to an AWS EC2, including the Application Server, is it possible to port my application logs in Cloudwatch instead? or is Cloudwatch only capable of logging the runtime logs in my application server? is it a lot of work to do this or is this even possible?
Kind of confuse on Cloudwatch. Seems it can do multiple things but is it really right to make it do that? Its only supposed to log metrics right, so it can alert whatever or whoever needs to be alerted.
If you have already developed application that produces its own log files, you can use CloudWatch Logs Agent to ingest the logs into CloudWatch Logs:
After installation is complete, logs automatically flow from the instance to the log stream you create while installing the agent. The agent confirms that it has started and it stays running until you disable it.
The metrics, such as RAM usage, disk space, can also be monitored and pushed to CloudWatch through the agent.
In both cases, logs and metrics, you can setup CloudWatch Alarms to automatically detect anomalies and notify you, or perform other actions, when they are detected. For logs, this is done through metric filters:

You can also have your application to inject logs directly to CloudWatch logs using AWS SDK. For example, in python, you can use put_log_events.
I am using Elasitsearch to get logs from cloudwatch log group by subscribing a lambda to the log group. So whenever there is a log event pushed to the log group, my lambda will be triggered and it will save the log to Elasticsearch. Then I can search the log via Kibana dashboard.
I'd like to put the metrics data to Elasticsearch as well but I couldn't find a way to subscribe to metrics data.
You can use AWS Module in MetricBeat from the Elastic Beat's family. Note that pulling metrics from cloudwatch will result in chargeable API calls. So you should carefully consider the scraping frequency.

CloudWatch Metric filters are not used to extract text, they're used for counting the number of occurrences for a specific condition i.e. when the Persons name is ABC
After the CloudWatch Logs agent begins publishing log data to Amazon CloudWatch, you can begin searching and filtering the log data by creating one or more metric filters. Metric filters define the terms and patterns to look for in log data as it is sent to CloudWatch Logs. CloudWatch Logs uses these metric filters to turn log data into numerical CloudWatch metrics that you can graph or set an alarm on. You can use any type of CloudWatch statistic, including percentile statistics, when viewing these metrics or setting alarms.

One way of filtering the logs is through log subscriptions:
You can use subscriptions to get access to a real-time feed of log events from CloudWatch Logs and have it delivered to other services such as a Amazon Kinesis stream, Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose stream, or AWS Lambda for custom processing, analysis, or loading to other systems.
Using subscriptions you could feed your logs into Kiensis Firehose in real-time, transform it using firehose transforamtions into format you desire and save it to S3. This way you can process the logs in a way you want and have them delivered to S3 for further analysis or long term storage.
Alternatively, can feed the logs directly to a lambda function, and from there you can do what you wish.
