Python Error message customization [duplicate] - python-2.7

When I raise my owns exceptions in my Python libraries, the exception stack shows the raise-line itself as the last item of the stack. This is obviously not an error, is conceptually right, but points the focus on something that is not useful for debugging when you're are using code externally, for example as a module.
Is there a way to avoid this and force Python to show the previous-to-last stack item as the last one, like the standard Python libraries.

Due warning: modifying the behaviour of the interpreter is generally frowned upon. And in any case, seeing exactly where an error was raised may be helpful in debugging, especially if a function can raise an error for several different reasons.
If you use the traceback module, and replace sys.excepthook with a custom function, it's probably possible to do this. But making the change will affect error display for the entire program, not just your module, so is probably not recommended.
You could also look at putting code in try/except blocks, then modifying the error and re-raising it. But your time is probably better spent making unexpected errors unlikely, and writing informative error messages for those that could arise.

you can create your own exception hook in python. below is the example of code that i am using.

In the method exception you can add file names or module names in list "filenames" if you want to ignore any unwanted files. As I have ignored the python pydev module since I am using pydev debugger in eclipse.
The above is used in my own module for a specific purpose. you can modify and use it for your modules.

I'd suggest to not use the Exception mechanism to validate arguments, as tempting as that is. Coding with exceptions as conditionals is like saying, "crash my app if, as a developer, I don't think of all the bad conditions my provided arguments can cause. Perhaps using exceptions for things not only out of your control but also which is under control of something else like the OS or hardware or the Python language would be more logical, I don't know. In practice however I use exceptions as you request a solution for.
To answer your question, in part, it is just as simple to code thusly:

Wrap every function of every class of gspread module.
I know there are countless of posts on the subject and most unanimously instruct to use decorators.
I'm not too familiar with decorators and felt like that approach is not as seamless as I hoped for. perhaps I didn't understand correctly.
But, I found this answer which "felt" like what I'm looking for.

When I use the word "seamless" I mean that considering my code has many calls to many gspread functions, I want to change as little as possible. Using inspect/setattr seems like the perfect/seamless trick.
There are three obvious issues with your code actually.
The first one is the TypeError - which is easy to solve FWIW: as the error message (raised by setattr() states, "attribute name must be string, not 'instancemethod'". And you're indeed trying to use f (the method itself) instead of method_name. What you want here is of course:
setattr(c, method_name, SafeCall(f))
The second issue is that your SafeCall "decorator" is NOT a decorator. A decorator (well, the kind of decorator you want here at least) returns a function that wraps the original one, your current implementation just calls the original function. Actually, it is almost what SafeCall should actually return. An example of a proper decorator would be:

And finally, the third obvious issue is here:

You certainly don't want this. This
1/ will catch absolutely everything (incuding SysExit, which is what Python raises on sys.exit() calls and StopIteration which is how iterators signals they are exhausted),
2/ discard all the very useful debugging infos - making it impossible to diagnose what actuall went wrong
3/ return something that can be plain unusable so you'll have to test the return value of each method call, and since you won't know what went wrong, you won't be able to handle the issue otherwise than printing "oops, something went wrong but don't ask me what nor where nor why" and exiting the program, which is definitly not better than letting the exception propagate - the program will crash in both cases, but at least if you leave the exception alone you'll have some hints on what caused the issue.
4/ or, much worse, return a valid return value for the method (yes, quite a few method are designed to change state and return None) so you won't even know something went wrong and happily continue execution - which is a sure way to have incorrect result and corrupted data.
5/ not to mention that the methods you're decorating that way are very probably calling each others and using (expected) exceptions internally (with proper exception handling), so you are actually introducing bugs in an otherwise working (or mostly working) library.
IOW, this is probably the worse antipattern you can ever think of...

How do I raise DeprecationWarnings in Python 2.7?

I'm trying to mark a function as deprecated so that the script calling it runs to its normal completion, but gets caught by PyCharm's static code inspections. (There are some other questions on this deprecation warnings, but I think they predate Python 2.6, when I believe class-based exceptions were introduced.)
Here's what I have:

My understanding is that Deprecated Warnings should allow the code to run, but this code sample actually halts when the function is called. When I remove "raise" from the body of the function, the code runs, but PyCharm doesn't mark the function call as deprecated.
What is the Pythonic (2.7.x) way of marking functions as deprecated?
You shouldn't raise DeprecationWarning (or a subclass) because then you still are raising an actual exception.
Instead use warnings.warn:

Cannot find qryname14411 key in structure

I have an error that seems to be associated with <cfscript> db operation

The really strange thing is, it looks like the operation completed. What kind of a error is this?
Short answer: It's probably a scoping issue. Try:

Long-winded waffley answer:
I'd call it an Adobe-developers-being-useless kind of error.
If you look at line 460 of that file, you'll see the error is due to a failure of StructFind to find the query name in the variables scope, and the reason it's appearing in debug input is because there's a try/catch with type any surrounding it. The same functionality could be achieved without causing/catching an error by replacing the try/catch with <cfif StructKeyExists(variables,tagAttributes['name']) > which is basic CFML knowledge, and certainly something a developer of the CF product should know!
The same code still exists in the CF10 version of base.cfc, so you may or not feel like submitting it as a bug in Adobe's CF bugbase - though it's unlikely they'll fix it for CF9 (and uncertain whether they'll feel CF10 is worth the effort either).
However, that would only be side-stepping the issue of the variable not existing, not addressing the real issue of why it doesn't actually exist. Given that the debug info shows the query is successfully executing, and the query code is basically right above that line (starts at line 442), it shouldn't be a repeated/common error, but it may be due to your myQry variable not being scoped, and thus it could be colliding with another variable also called myQry (or even the same var from a separate call to the function) which is happening between the execution of the new Query() and .execute() lines, and thus causing the original query to not be there when the StructFind looks for it.
The solution is to put the keyword var before the first use of myQry which will place it in the local scope for that function - something that should be done for all variables that are only for use within an instance of a function, (otherwise they are placed in the variables scope of the component/request that the function exists within).

Unit testing - log and then fail?

I am used to test drive my code. Now that I am new to Go I am trying to get it right as fast as possible. I am using the testing package in the standard library which seem to be good enough. (I also like that it is not yet another external dependency. We are currently at 2 dependencies overall - compared to any Java- or Ruby project.....) Anyways - it looks like an assert in golang looks like this:

I find this verbose and would like to do it on one line instead:

There are external packages that can be integrated with the stock testing framework.
One of them I wrote long ago, gocheck, was intended to sort that kind of use case.
With it, the test case looks like this, for example:

Note how the comment right above the code was included in the reported failure.
There are also a number of other usual features, such as suite and test-specific set up and tear down routines, and so on. Please check out the web page for more details.
It's well maintained as I and other people use it in a number of active projects, so feel free to join on board, or follow up and check out the other similar projects that suit your taste more appropriately.
For examples of gocheck use, please have a look at packages such as mgo, goyaml, goamz, pipe, vclock, juju (massive code base), lpad, gozk, goetveld, tomb, etc. Also gocheck, manages to test itself. It was quite fun to bootstrap that.
But when You try write test like Uncle Martin, with one assert in test and long function names, then simple assert library, like http://github.com/stretchr/testify/assert can make it much faster and easier
I discourage writing test in the way you seem to have desire for. It's not by chance that the whole stdlib uses the, as you call it, "verbose" way.
It is undeniably more lines, but there are several advantages to this approach.
If you read Why does Go not have assertions? and s/error handling/test failure reporting/g you can get a picture of why the several "assert" packages for Go testing are not a good idea to use,
Once again, the proof is the huge code base of the stdlib.
The idiomatic way is the way you have above. Also, you don't have to log any message if you don't desire.
As defined by the GO FAQ:

Go doesn't provide assertions. They are undeniably convenient, but our
experience has been that programmers use them as a crutch to avoid
thinking about proper error handling and reporting. Proper error
handling means that servers continue operation after non-fatal errors

programmer seeing the errors is not familiar with the code.
We understand that this is a point of contention. There are many
things in the Go language and libraries that differ from modern

UPDATE
Based on your update, that is not idiomatic Go. What you are doing is in essence designing a test extension framework to mirror what you get in the XUnit frameworks. While there is nothing fundamentally wrong, from an engineering perspective, it does raise questions as to the value + cost of maintaining this extension library. Additionally, you are creating an in-house standard that will potentially ruffle feathers. The biggest thing about Go is it is not C or Java or C++ or Python and things should be done the way the language is constructed.

Visual C++ - Throwing unhandled exception from setting forms icon?

I can compile the solution with no errors, but when I'll try to run it, I get a crash window:
An unhandled exception of type
'System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
Additional information: Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "<myformname>.resources" was corerctly embedded or linked into assembly "<myprojectname>" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loaded and fully signed.
And after I press Break it throws me to the line:

If I comment this line out, everything works just fine, but my program doesn't have icon.
Anyone else had this problem? Found a solution? I couldn't find anything clear enough for me to understand, problem is really annoying me, only solution I found was to declare my form class before any other classes, but I don't even have any other classes in my solution?
I also have only one project in this solution, ms support said something about having multiple projects, which I don't have, so it was no use either.

The exception is thrown because your icon cannot be located. You will probably need to compiles your resources under one .dll and put this under en-US subfolder on your project output. It did the trick for me at least. There are probably other solutions to your problem too.
Do not panic like I did. The root cause of the problem is that the compiled resource file is different from the one that is asked to load at runtime. This happens because the underlying build-script cannot detect the filename or namespace changes made after the form is created.
For example, At first we started a project named x . And our $(RootNamespace) becomes x. And we created a form named y. So our XML resource file y.resx gets compiled into x.y.resource . At this point the icon change works.
Now somehow we changed the project name or the namespace to z. But our $(RootNamespace) remains the x. While at compile-time it wrongly generates old x.y.resource, but at links-time it links z.y.resource. And at this point the icon change does not work.
It can also happen if the form is under some nested namespace which is not known in the project file.
It can be fixed by changing the compilation output of the y.resx file . It can be done by right-clicking the resource and changing the Resource Logical Name to $(RootNamespace).%(Filename).resources .
I will also make sure that ProjectName,AssemblyName and RootNamespace are the same in the .vcxproj file. Somehow if the form is declared under a nested namespace like RootNamespace.gui , then the output file of the resource should be $(RootNamespace).gui.%(Filename).resources .
