If statement conditions not met, code still executing - if-statement

I'm writing a VBScript that searches the Active Directory for a computer object. If the object does not exist or exists and is in the correct OU, then it should run a separate script that creates/joins the computer to the AD.
ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = Null
ObjExist_CorrectOU_10 = Null
If compare = True Then
Win7_OU = "OU=DisallowRDP,OU=64Bit,OU=Win8"
Win10_OU = "OU=DisallowRDP,OU=64Bit,OU=Win10"
For x = 16 To 46
If Asc(Mid(objRS.Fields("distinguishedName"), x, 1)) = Asc(Mid(Win7_OU, (x - 15), 1)) Then
ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = True
Else
ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = False
End If
Next
For y = 16 To 46
If Asc(Mid(objRS.Fields("distinguishedName"), y, 1)) = Asc(Mid(Win10_OU, (y - 15), 1)) Then
ObjExist_CorrectOU_10 = True
Else
ObjExist_CorrectOU_10 = False
End If
Next
End If
If ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = True Then
WScript.Echo "TRUE"
End If
Dim objShell
Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
filename = "C:\programdata\dell\kace\k2000_deployment_info.conf"
Win7_Deployment = "deployment_name=Windows 7 x64 with SP1, join AD"
Win10_Deployment = "deployment_name=Development Windows 10 (x64), join AD"
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set f = fso.OpenTextFile(filename)
Do While Not f.AtEndOfStream
If ((f.ReadLine = Win7_Deployment) Or ((f.ReadLine = Win7_Deployment) And (ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = True))) Then
WScript.Echo "IT WORKED!"
'objShell.Run "JoinAD_Win7.vbs"
Exit Do
End If
On Error Resume Next
Loop
f.Close
Set g = fso.OpenTextFile(filename)
Do While Not f.AtEndOfStream
If ((g.ReadLine = Win10_Deployment) Or ((g.ReadLine = Win10_Deployment) And (ObjExist_CorrectOU_10 = True))) Then
'objShell.Run "JoinAD_Win10.vbs"
WScript.Echo "IT WORKED AGAIN!"
Exit Do
End If
On Error Resume Next
Loop
g.Close
Set objShell = Nothing
The problem I'm running into is that the two If..Then statements execute every time, even though I know the conditions are absolutely NOT being met.
Does it have to do with my use of Or and And?

Your question does not satisfy Minimal, Complete, and Verifiable example criteria. However, at first sight: read On Error Statement and ReadLine Method and Working with Files documentation.
Do While Not f.AtEndOfStream
''' ↓ this `ReadLine` reads every uneven line i.e. the 1st, 3rd, 5th, …
If ((f.ReadLine = Win7_Deployment) Or ((f.ReadLine = Win7_Deployment) And (ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = True))) Then
''' this one reads every even line ↑ i.e. the 2nd, 4th, 6th, …
WScript.Echo "IT WORKED!"
'objShell.Run "JoinAD_Win7.vbs"
Exit Do
End If
On Error Resume Next ' this causes that script continues on line next to IF … THEN
' in case of uneven records in file.
' i.e. runtimme error "Input past end of file"
Loop
Use something like
Do While Not f.AtEndOfStream
sReadLine = f.ReadLine
If ((sReadLine = Win7_Deployment) Or ((sReadLine = Win7_Deployment) And (ObjExist_CorrectOU_7 = True))) Then
WScript.Echo "IT WORKED!"
'objShell.Run "JoinAD_Win7.vbs"
Exit Do
End If
''' get rid of `On Error Resume Next` statement at all
Loop
And what about Do While Not f.AtEndOfStream followed up by g.ReadLine? Use either f or g (the same TextStream object in both)…

Find starting and ending index of each unique charcters in a string in python

I have a string with characters repeated. My Job is to find starting Index and ending index of each unique characters in that string. Below is my code.
import re
x = "aaabbbbcc"
xs = set(x)
for item in xs:
mo = re.search(item,x)
flag = item
m = mo.start()
n = mo.end()
print(flag,m,n)
Output :
a 0 1
b 3 4
c 7 8
Here the end index of the characters are not correct. I understand why it's happening but how can I pass the character to be matched dynamically to the regex search function. For instance if I hardcode the character in the search function it provides the desired output
x = 'aabbbbccc'
xs = set(x)
mo = re.search("[b]+",x)
flag = item
m = mo.start()
n = mo.end()
print(flag,m,n)
output:
b 2 5
The above function is providing correct result but here I can't pass the characters to be matched dynamically.
It will be really a help if someone can let me know how to achieve this any hint will also do. Thanks in advance
String literal formatting to the rescue:
import re
x = "aaabbbbcc"
xs = set(x)
for item in xs:
# for patterns better use raw strings - and format the letter into it
mo = re.search(fr"{item}+",x) # fr and rf work both :) its a raw formatted literal
flag = item
m = mo.start()
n = mo.end()
print(flag,m,n) # fix upper limit by n-1
Output:
a 0 3 # you do see that the upper limit is off by 1?
b 3 7 # see above for fix
c 7 9
Your pattern does not need the [] around the letter - you are matching just one anyhow.
Without regex1:
x = "aaabbbbcc"
last_ch = x[0]
start_idx = 0
# process the remainder
for idx,ch in enumerate(x[1:],1):
if last_ch == ch:
continue
else:
print(last_ch,start_idx, idx-1)
last_ch = ch
start_idx = idx
print(ch,start_idx,idx)
output:
a 0 2 # not off by 1
b 3 6
c 7 8
1RegEx: And now you have 2 problems...
Looking at the output, I'm guessing that another option would be,
import re
x = "aaabbbbcc"
xs = re.findall(r"((.)\2*)", x)
start = 0
output = ''
for item in xs:
end = start + len(item[0])
output += (f"{item[1]} {start} {end}\n")
start = end
print(output)
Output
a 0 3
b 3 7
c 7 9
I think it'll be in the Order of N, you can likely benchmark it though, if you like.
import re, time
timer_on = time.time()
for i in range(10000000):
x = "aabbbbccc"
xs = re.findall(r"((.)\2*)", x)
start = 0
output = ''
for item in xs:
end = start + len(item[0])
output += (f"{item[1]} {start} {end}\n")
start = end
timer_off = time.time()
timer_total = timer_off - timer_on
print(timer_total)

Crystal Report converting value to number with symbol

I have an issue with a Crystal Report that I'm creating. I am using fields from a database and am pulling in the result value where the analysis field is equal to certain values.
In the condition the first check looks at the analysis field and checks if its equal to "Conf". The result for this is "<10"
The second check looks at the analysis field and checks if its equal to "Original". The result for this is "20".
I want the results to display in the order above however with the following basic logic it returns the result of 20.
if analysis = "conf" then result
else if analysis = "Original" then result
I was having this issue with multiple records however solved it by converting both results to numbers (toNumber(Result)). However this record has the less than symbol contained within the field value which causes the conf result to "be skipped" and will display the original result instead. I've tried a few things without success. Here is the code for the condition of where I'm at below. I fell this is way to complex logic but I've just added to it as I've had ideas and it shows what I've tried.
if {UNITS} = "CFU_G" then
if {ANALYSIS} = "CONF" and
{RESULT}="" or
{RESULT} = "0" then 0
else if {ANALYSIS} = "CONF"
then if isNumeric({RESULT}) then
tonumber({RESULT}) else
tonumber(Replace ({RESULT}, "<", ""))
else
if {UNITS} = "CFU_G" then
if {ANALYSIS} = "Original" and
{RESULT}="" or
{RESULT} = "0" then 0
else if {ANALYSIS} = "Original"
then if isNumeric({RESULT}) then
tonumber({RESULT}) else
tonumber(Replace ({RESULT}, "<", ""))
Thanks,
Tom
This was the solution I came up with.
Field 1
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar vResult := "";
Field 2
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar vResult;
vResult := if {RESULT.UNITS} = "CFU_G"
and {RESULT.ANALYSIS} = "CRA_LIS_ENU_CONF_MPCRAM29"
then {RESULT.FORMATTED_ENTRY}
else if {RESULT.ANALYSIS} = "CRA_LIST_ENU_MPCRAM29"
and {RESULT.UNITS} = "CFU_G"
and vResult = ""
then {RESULT.FORMATTED_ENTRY}
Field 3
whileprintingrecords;
stringvar vResult;
vResult;

WHILE loop to begin only when ELSEIF condition is true

I'm new to lua, and am trying to write some code to send information to a text file that is overwritten each loop cycle.The info sent to the text file is different based on a value that increases to a specific known number (3 for this example) and then decreases below that number in any order.
Here's where I am stuck:
I want to send different info to the text file using the same values
but based on whether the value has reached 3 or not, if that makes
sense.
Example in English:
if value is 2 and has not reached 3 then write: UP 2
if value is 2 and has reached 3 then write: DOWN 2
if value is 3 then write: TOP
My Question:
Can I get an infinite while loop to start inside another infinite while loop when a value meets a specific elseif condition. I want to try and use the loop structure below if possible.
My Code looks somewhat like this:
while true do
file = assert(io.open("file.txt","w+"))
value = ipc.readSD(0x0BE8)
if value = 0
file:write("UP 0")
file:close()
elseif value = 1
file:write("UP 1")
file:close()
elseif value = 2
file:write("UP 2")
file:close()
elseif value = 3
file:write("TOP")
file:close()
--How do I trigger/start this inner loop?
while true do
--now stay in here until break
file = assert(io.open("file.txt","w+"))
value = ipc.readSD(0x0BE8)
if
value = 0
file:write("DOWN 0")
file:close()
break
elseif
value = 1
file:write("DOWN 1")
file:close()
elseif
value = 2
file:write("DOWN 2")
file:close()
else
break
else
file:write("OUTSIDE")
end
end
There are several syntax errors in your code, it shouldn't compile at all.
Use == to compare equal instead of =
For every if / elseif, there should always be a corresponding
then.
For every if / while / do block, there should always be a
corresponding end.
As for your question, if I understand it correctly, you can use goto to simulate continue when you don't want to enter the inner loop:
while true do
value = getValue()
if value == 1 then
--not enter inner loop
goto continue
elseif value == 2 then
--enter inner loop
end
while true do
--inner loop
end
::continue::
end

Conversion of PerfRawData Values into Performatted data -WMI

I need to convert PagesPersec value from Win32_PerfRawData_PerfOS_Memory to PerfFormatted Data value .How to convert PerfRaw data values from WMI Perfomance counters to PerfFormatted Data values .Is there Standard Formula available recommended by Windows.
The formula you need depends on the CounterType ... see
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa392761(v=VS.85).aspx
to get started, have a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394597.aspx
It is too long to answer here. There is a very good article with samples http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms974615.aspx
In a brief: it depends on the counter type. For some counters it can me just read (disk free space) and come require calculation based on two requests one a bit later than another, for example:
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select * From Win32_PerfRawData_PerfOS_Processor Where Name = '0'")
For Each objItem in colItems
CounterValue1 = objItem.InterruptsPerSec
TimeValue1 = objItem.TimeStamp_PerfTime
TimeBase = objItem.Frequency_PerfTime
Next
For i = 1 to 5
Wscript.Sleep(1000)
Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select * From Win32_PerfRawData_PerfOS_Processor Where Name = '0'")
For Each objItem in colItems
CounterValue2 = objItem.InterruptsPerSec
TimeValue2 = objItem.TimeStamp_PerfTime
If TimeValue2 - TimeValue1 = 0 Then
Wscript.Echo "Interrupts Per Second = 0"
Else
intInterrupts = (CounterValue2 - CounterValue1) / _
( (TimeValue2 - TimeValue1) / TimeBase)
Wscript.Echo "Interrupts Per Second = " & Int(intInterrupts)
End if
CounterValue1 = CounterValue2
TimeValue1 = TimeValue2
Next

Lua - Reflection - Get list of functions/fields on an object?

I'm new to Lua and dealing with Lua as a scripting language in an alpha release of a program. The developer is unresponsive and I need to get a list of functions provided by some C++ objects which are accessible from the Lua code.
Is there any easy way to see what fields and functions these objects expose?
In Lua, to view the members of a object, you can use:
for key,value in pairs(o) do
print("found member " .. key);
end
Unfortunately I don't know if this will work for objects imported from C++.
If allowed in the environment, looking at the metatable of the exported C++ object can help:
for key,value in pairs(getmetatable(o)) do
print(key, value)
end
Print all the globals:
-- globals.lua
-- show all global variables
local seen={}
function dump(t,i)
seen[t]=true
local s={}
local n=0
for k in pairs(t) do
n=n+1 s[n]=k
end
table.sort(s)
for k,v in ipairs(s) do
print(i,v)
v=t[v]
if type(v)=="table" and not seen[v] then
dump(v,i.."\t")
end
end
end
dump(_G,"")

Something along the same vein as the answer Mr Stinky gave but a whole lot more information.
I made the below code originally for a running from a web server but have added the capability to run on lua for windows
on a web server options are passed in query string ?loadmodules=no&module=_G
