I'm writing a Qt application which uses mpv for playing different videos.
QWidget is used to show video content. I also have custom dock with controls for switching video channels, changing position, etc.
I want to have dock appearing after a click on the screen and disappearing on timer event. It all works fine, except from the fact, that QWidget used for mpv is not receiving QMouseEvent. On the contrast same event works fine for main window. Basically dock appears only if you click on visible part of main window and not on mpv Qwidget.
I assume it is because mpv has internal support for keybindings. I've tried to disable them by setting "input-default-bindings" to "no", but it didn't help.
mpv_set_option_string(mpv, "input-default-bindings", "no");
Can anybody help with that?
Does anybody know how to configure keybindings for mpv (I can't find any example in documentation)?
Maybe there is a workaround for it?

You can use a transparent widget in front of video area to receive and redirect QMouseEvent to your custom dock. Though this is not a beautiful solution... How to create such widget is described here.

There are also other ways to make borderless, focusless windows that hover and disappear quickly on command. The Window Flags and Widget Attributes in Qt are very powerful when you are looking to modify Qt Widgets.
When you parent a Widget to another widget, it will draw itself on top of the other. Then you just need to resize and position it properly.
Also subclassing existing widgets can give you more options.

Also common Qt::Tools that you will find are QDockWidgets. They are awesome!

Take a look at Qt Namespace especially Qt::WA_LayoutOnEntireRect and Qt::WA_StyleSheet. Pass it as a widget attrybutes. The second option looks promising but you have to create style sheet for QWidget.
I am developing a application with Qt.
I have a push button and I'm using signal/slot for setting a different text.
The problem is that I want to use it with touch screen. I have the coordinates when I touch the screen.
So far I can change the text by pressing on the touch screen (any coordinate) but I don't know how to do it only when I push the button.
If you have any ideas I would appreciate it.

Touch events are commonly handled just like mouse clicks (it depends on the Qt driver you're using but it commonly is handled that way). So use the pressed() signal as usual.
Does anyone know if it is possible to use drag and drop with a tray icon using Qt?
I've been doing some research and here is what I have come up with:
A QSystemTrayIcon cannot explicitly handle a drag/drop event. However there is a workaround based on the Spifftastic tray icon location method.
You create a uniquely colored icon
and place it as the icon for a brief
moment and take a screenshot of it.
Given that you know the color
sequence for the icon, you can
search through the screenshot and
locate the particular icon's
location.
A transparent widget is positioned
over the icon and is used as the
drop target.
I have yet to work at a few of the finer details of the operation but that is the gist of it. All things considered it is a hacky way of things but given that there are no other ways to do this I think it is acceptable.
Fluffy App (written in C#) uses the Spifftastic method to locate the tray icon. I'm assuming the part about the transparent window is how they accomplish that but I have yet to decompile and examine their system.
Since QSystemTrayIcon is a QObject, not a QWidget, my guess is this is not possible. The system tray icon isn't really owned by Qt - it's passed on to the 'desktop', i.e whatever part of the Gnome/KDE/Windows/Mac is drawing the relevant area. At least on Mac, you'd be dropping on the menu-bar, which would be a very strange UI. For Gnome and KDE it's a FreeDesktop.org standard, but again I don't think its your process which actually does the drawing, and hence there's no way for Qt to get events such as drag and drop to you.
I want a tab control to "dock" to the entire window panel, in Qt Creator. Now in Winforms and WPF this is super easy but in Qt its not working.
I've tried all the layouts, grid layouts, etc etc. it's just shrinking the tabs not making them grow to fill. So please test a solution before telling me what the SHOULD BE OBVIOUS answer is cause its not working.

I'm unsure what you are trying to achieve here - do you want the control to fill the client area? Are you creating a QMainWindow-derived class or a QDialog-derived one? If using QMainWindow then you'd make the tab control the central widget by calling setCentralWidget. The tab control will then fill the main window's client area. I have done this many times.
Or do you want the tab 'ears' to stretch?
I am trying to create an app in Qt/C++ with Qt4.5 and want the any active windows to change opacity on a mouseover event...
As i understand it, there is no explicit mouseover event in Qt.
However, I got rudimentary functioning by reimplementing QWidget's mousemoveevent() in the class that declares my mainwindow. But the mainwindow's mousemoveevent is not called whenever the mouse travels over any of the group boxes i have created in there (understandbly since QGroupbox has its own reimplementation of mousemoveevent).
So as a cheap work around, I am still using the mousemoveevent of my mainwindow but a query the global mouse position and based on the (x,y) position of the mainwindow (obtained through ->pos()) and the window size (-> size -> rHeight and rWidth), I check if the mouse is within the bounds of the area of the mainwindow and change the opacity thus.
This has had very limited success. The right border works fine, the the left changes opacity 4 pixels early. The top does not work (presumably because the mouse goes through the menubar and title bar) and the bottom changes way too early.
I thought of creating an empty container QWidget class and then place all the rest in there, but i felt that it would still not solve the big issue of the base widget not receiving the mousemoveevent if it has already been implemented in a child widget.
Please suggest any corrections/errors I have made in my method or any alternate methods to achieve this.
p.s. I doubt this matters, but I am working Qt Creator IDE, not Qt integration into VS2008 (it's the same classes anyways - different compiler though, mingw)
Installing event filters for each of your child widgets might do the trick. This will allow your main window to receive child events such as the ones from you group boxes. You can find example code here.

If I understand what you are attempting to do, I would reimplement the widget's enterEvent() and leaveEvent(). The mouse enter event would trigger the fade-in and the leaveEvent would trigger the fade-out.
EDIT: After re-reading several times, I'm still not sure what you are trying to accomplish. Sorry if my suggestion doesn't help. :-)
